Members SRL

This is something i though existed before i joined members.
Many of us would love to see our functions getting into SRL, but they rarely do. It's not that they aren't great, many of the functions we have here are better than those in scar/srl when it comes to object finding, and we also have stuff like TPA Radial Walking and misc stuff such as anti-noob and gem cutter.

the other day i saw this function by Negaal, i was really impressed. all i had to do to find any tree was

FindTree(x, y, 'Yew');

i mean wow. we're that good. But these things don't get implemented into SRL because if they did all those junior members learning wouldn't actually learn much. It would be way too simple to do "FindTree" and they wouldn't actually understand what's behind it, how does it do such things. But most of us do. And if we had easy access to such functions we could focus more on other parts of the script. if instead of spending hours trying to find out the best way to find a rock super fast and check when the rock's done super fast, we might actually spend some more time in things like a gas checker, which from all of the available none is perfect.

So here's my idea:
we post our super functions, we include "our" SRL in members only scripts and then we can take more time to develop what isn't yet great in SRL.

I'll start of with a very little contribution but it's something that doesn't exist in SRL and got lots of comments when i applied.

{*******************************************************************************
function RMCheckScam: Boolean;
By: Rasta Magician
Description: Will look for the red text in either trade screen 1 or 2
*******************************************************************************}
function RMCheckScam:Boolean;
var
x, y:integer;
begin
if TradeScreen then
Result := FindColor(x, y, 255, 330, 300, 455, 315);
else
if TradeScreen2 then
Result := FindColor(x, y, 255, 350, 270, 475, 290);
end;

so to include it, we would do something of the kind:
{.include SRL/Members_SRL/misc/trade.scar}

please only post your own functions.

I 100% support this idea, many amazing functions / procedures have been made but the only ones actually put in srl were made by wizzup? wt fakawi, sumillion, etc, none of the little guys get appreciated enough :D

I think that it would make scripting much too easy. Besides, people need to try different methods of doing things other than looking in the includes for, say, a rock finder or tree finder. Everything would be already made.

which would give us time to make the missing stuff. like gas checker.

yes it would make scripting easier, but it doesn't stop people from making their own finders, they can still do it.

I aprove to that idea! :)
And just because these plugins would exist doesn't mean that we only use those, which would make everything way too easy. It's like saying people will stop taking walks in the forest or such just because there are cars. (Well, there might be a person or tow saying: "so what's your point? I don't take walks in a forest or nature" But I will just pretend I didn't see those posts ;)).
Then we can focus on making new functions and procedures, because not every single srl member would have to create similar functions, for example, cutting a tree, or finding a rock, but would just have to use a function which was already tested many times, thus having a high chance of success. Well, I am quite new to members (I think the newest one :p), and many people probably don't care about my opinion, but oh well, I typed it now anyways. :D

Sorry, but I'm against.

:rolleyes: It's not that when your functions are for whole world to see, you'd be only then appreciated.

SRL's code should only contain the really core fuctions, we have been trying to get scripts to compile faster. Addin more object finding functions would be useless… But examples like FindTree could be placed in Woodcutting.scar.
Every usefull PM'ed to me is added, fyi. ;)

Don't think that would be good.
Because i wouldn't learn anything then. :D
Just
FindTree(plapla);
That would take away the fun part(creation). :)

I'm not really liking this. its better that we see different functions. if everyone using Findtree(blabla); it will be easyer to detect than when every script uses an other one :)

EDIT: w00t 600th post :D

i didn't know that, and i totally understand it. And i didn't know that you added the useful stuff. ** But sometimes our functions are useful, good, but not up to SRL standards, although we would still be happy to use them? * this is already speculation*

n just wondering, my "CheckScam" function does not exist in srl, is useful and is as complex as masquerader's TradeScreen. Is it not in because: it isn't found to be useful; you had no idea about it; it's not complex enough?

well it would take away the fun part of finding trees, but then we could have fun focusing on other things!

I don't think Jagex will notice a difference in the color finding, because we always try to make the best procedure to find all the right stuff. and no matter how many different ways we find it we will still find the same things :p

I found it to be a good idea, some answers make me think it's not REALLY needed, but i would still like to see some organization in the New Functions forum, so that we could actually use each other's functions more easily.

edit: would it be ok to try to put together the functions in this forum, if i have the authors authorization?

I agree 100% with this!

It really would be great for our member community!

if this happened then member apps would eventually be like 100 lines because all of the functions needed to make a script will already be in SRL

Erm no, this would b SRL members only stuff lol.

The ppl applying for members would still have to do it legit, however for members only scripts we would have our own "include" for some sweet functions.

I agree partially with this, I dont like the object finding ones as much because it does take the fun out of it…but other functions would be acceptable (new banking stuff maybe?) ;)

I think, if you want your procedures in SRL, just post them up in SRL Test Corner, and link a few Admins and Devs to it… :)

Someone please give me idea…
I suck at object finding…such as tree finding…If I will find, I will find grass aswell…
I tryed to remake treefinder, tried lots of colors and locations, whenever place/color was good(I didn't found any grass, and found lots of pixels on tree) then in other location finding went bad.
Most sucesfull:p

I love wizzys DebugTPA/ATPA

Edit:
I forgot main point I made the post…

Someone give me idea for function to make!

Pick a color that is tree-specific.

I wanted to find like 10 or more points per 10 * 10 mm…different trees, worlds has different colors…anyways…forget it

Dude, give me an idea!

FindColorTol ?

Sir R. M8gic1an

2008-02-12 16:29:12

Negaal your finding too much color :p try to reduce tol in your FindColorsTolerance, and try to find the best color on trees.

but i think you post was actually asking for an idea of a new function to make?
try detecting when a tree is gone, if your still into wcing.
