Halp me with FTP File Server :$

I got a server from Swift (he is nice :D) and I am accessing it with the FTP link to add files. So I drag and drop the files from my computer into the folder, then it updates them and w/e then I can open them there. BUT!!!… when I go to open them with HTML I got 404 errors.

Ex: My ftp server is ftp://hy71194@mgatesphoto.com. So I added the files there. So when I go to http://hy71194.mgatesphoto.com, I get the bad 404. One of the files are CaverVersion.txt for my caver version checking, I go to http://hy71194.mgatesphoto.com/CaverVersion.txt and 404-ness :/

Is there something different you need to do in MicroSoft's built in FTP thing to have the server update the files on the server size?
Cause I know it is something with it not being updated sever side because I updated the index.html file, and it doesn't give a 404, but it didn't change from what it was. (http://hy71194.mgatesphoto.com/index.html was blank, I made it say "Hi", and it isn't saying Hi yet :/)

Ty for listening to my rambling, I hope you can help me.
~ Harry.

hmm, did you ask swift what your http URL would be? because the ftp://hy@ is just specifying your username, your http url may be completely different.

as for the index.html thing, he could just have wildcards turned on.

First of all, make sure your uploading your files to the root menu of the ftp… or the root for the website.

Also… swift might not have setup the FTP correctly(might have linked to the wrong folder)

Otherwise… its just what munk said… you may have the wrong URL

if your previouse cookie of you logging in the ftp server was deleted, remember to log in again (reminder)

Make sure you're uploading to a folder below the /www/ level. (generally, /you.server.com/).

Your (blank) index page loads fine, but the file that you specified (CaverVersion.txt) does return a 404 Not Found.

Best answer. I bet that is what it is.
Thanks.

I rechecked everything, and you've been using the wrong account for hy71194.

When I went inside the folders, hy71194 was empty with just version.txt and index.html, and hy71994 had a bunch of files in it, lots of .txts.

So, I changed the password for the ftp account at hy71994 so you won't get confused again, and kept the password for hy71194 (I removed an "s" off the end of the password for hy71994, and kept the "s" at the end for hy71194).

Go check things out, and see if it's good now.

Haha Swift, I did :p

Change it to Hy71194.mgatesphoto.com and this topic can be closed, thanks Swift. <3

Change what to huh?

It already is hy71194.mgatesphoto.com

Unless you mean you want the capital letter "h" ?

No I mean look, go to http://hy71994.mgatesphoto.com/CaverVersion.txt and it works. Go to http://hy71194.mgatesphoto.com/CaverVersion.txt and it is broken. Just make the traffic from hy71194 direct to hy71994, and change the password to what it was originally.
