There really isn't much difference between McCain/Hillary/Obama.
They will all continue the war in Iraq. If you think otherwise, just look at Obama's and Hillary's voting records. They have voted in favor of funding Iraq every single time.
They will all grant amnesty to every illegal alien in the country.
They will all protect social security and medicare to the detriment of every person younger than 55 years old.
Most people here are less than 20 years old. Right now the US faces 89 trillion dollars in future unfunded liabilities on Social Security and Medicare. This is after paying back all the money borrowed from the trust funds, plus collecting all the taxes for the next 75 years.
http://www.washingtontimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070711/EDITORIAL/107110013/1013That number is more than the total net worth of every American. In other words, every American citizen would have to sell their house, car, boat, computer, playstation, and all other property, then empty their retirement accounts, bank accounts, and stock portfolios, and then throw all the money into a big pile. And even then the pile wouldn't cover the shortfall.
The scariest thing of all is that we would have to put that big pile of money in TODAY to make it work. If we wait 5 years, it will cost more. If we wait 10 years it will cost even more. Waiting another 8 years for Obama/Clinton/McCain to leave office will take too long, and we will all suffer for their inaction.
Bill Clinton gave a speech about how important it was to reform Social Security and Medicare back in 1998. Nothing has been done in the last 10 years, and we have lost valuable time. Bush tried to reform SS, and he got attacked for it. The thing that gets me is that Democrats opposed Bush's reform plan without putting forward any alternative. I can understand if they had a better idea or a better way, but they didn't. Democrats have all said plainly that they will not reform them. So we will have no choice but to pile the money up and pay for it.
The reason this matters is that YOUNG PEOPLE are the ones that will be stuck with this bill. You and me. And your kids, and your grandkids. I believe it is the single most important issue for young voters, since it will BY FAR have the greatest impact on us over the next 30-50 years.
The Iraq war is chump change in comparison, and people talk about how that is bankrupting us…
