This thread is not for the actual Cup Giving.
It seemed cool to me to add some cups to SRL.
Cups can really stimulate users. I was wondering if you had some good idea's for cups.
I was thinking of
Usefull Poster, that way we stimulate people to make only usefull posts instead of spamming their way to 1k posts.
The cups should stimulate people to learn more, and overall increase their activity/usefullness to the community.
An example of a cup I would rather not have in would be something like:
'Post popper, for the one who spams alot'.Unless we would make it clear that this cup is not a good thing, it would only lead to stimulating people to post more.
EDIT: It actually seems like quite a good idea, but it should be clear that this is a 'negative' cup.
Some funny cups would be welcome too.
Current Cups:
- Usefull Poster.
- Post popper.
- SRL-Stats Cup. (Top 10?)
- 'Feedbacking Leecher'.
- Scripting Competition Cup.
EDIT: This will ofcourse, also lead to some extra Moderator powers. ;)
EDIT2: Images? If you find any, maybe you can already post it here?

Stats cup, RAM still gets one ;)
Script tester, someone who posts a lot of (good) progress reports.. It's less good than the Testers Cup, but it will stimulate people to post progress reports.

What do you mean?
I think another cup could be something like overall community helper (for posting good scripts, helping people, making tuts, staying active for a while…etc.). It should be a hard cup to get too. Most of the ssrl + members deserve a cup like this I think too.
Anyways, I like the idea a lot. Maybe an "other language" cup? Like one for java, c++…etc., or just one for overall programming? Graphics cup maybe too?

I also think we should hand out more Best Newcomer and Mostly Harmless.

Except Village clown isn't as descriptive… IDK. Getting the Village clown cup to me just says "Go home noob!" :p Post Popper to me just says "Stop spamming or Go Home Noob!".
I don't get what the Mostly Harmless one is for…
How about a potty mouth cup? Lol. Just find like a picture of a toilet and give it to someone that swears a lot but not like enough for infractions, or even for someone who swears so much they get infractions? Something like that would be a good cup for people who do bad things.

People really need to stop doing that, but I guess thats really the easiest way to leave… SRL is really addicting… XD
As far as cups go… I think we need to hand out the "Best Newcomer" Award for sure. I also agree with Markus' SPAM and SRL Stats cup.
Maybe we need a special cup that will automatically go away after 7 days that is given to anyone who posts a copied script on an application?

The Metal-Head cup:

People who like metal :p Completely unrelated to SCAR and SRL, so it's kinda more a joke.
Reference-person: Me, Gerauchert + some others
The Brainiac cup (Yay, one more to slap on BenLand and Freddy!):

Shall be given to those who are smart on more than just SCAR and so clever that they are annoying.
Reference-person: Definitely not BenLand or Freddy. Or Sumilion. Or Markus. Or… Too many to mention. (Maybe because I'm dumb?)

I like braniac cup, but I think two's enough in terms of smartness?
Object finder, etc, is unnecessary.

Are you all spamming this usefull thread with stupid suggestions (<in my opinion) like the brainiac and metal-head cup?
If we add a huge amount of new cups then everyone would have one, and then the "clue" of having a cup is complettely lost.
A cup is still something you'll have to work for, not saying you love metal music or watch a television show.
I'm rather dissapointed in these, in my opinion, rather stupid suggestions -_- (sorry for being so rude, it's just what I think "freedom of speech").
I'm thinking of one at the moment, my first thought was one for the community members (registred user>junior member>community member), I want to know from you all what you think about that one, please.
Regards,
-Tsn.
EDIT: I forgot to say that I agree with the "Usefull Poster" one, but not really with the spam one, or like Wizzy said before, it should be an icon that shows you are on the road:p (like I remember a user over here I think "stupidspam" or so with in his avatar a pic that shows spam is not allowed).

@tsn: I completely respect that. I admit the metalhead cup is completely useless, but I said that in my post anyways. And the brainiac cup isn't for watching a TV-show. As I said - I don't even know it. It is meant for smart people. People who know a lot more than just SCAR.

Making a cup for getting your post count up (which makes you a community member, so all you need to do to become a community member is post) would be the worst thing ever TBH. That would increase spam by 500% because people would then know once they get to 300 posts they get a cup.

[offtopic] Can someone (administrator probably) enlighten me as to how the titles work? I'm not asking in a general sense i.e. more posts / longevity. I was just wondering the numbers or ratios where you get the different titles at? [/offtopic]
For cups I think we're pretty good, I don't know if you want to bring up the topic of separate cups for SRL Member + and Registered Users but I think the Best Newcomer Cup would stimulate the "noob" population to learn to script, and on the note of specific Registered User cups I think that should be one, and I think we should have a Best Newcomer cup for SRL Members too.
Make them look different and maybe have a little thread / announcement that dynamically changes to say Best Newcomer: … * Best New SRL Member: …. or something.

no no, it would only be given to people who's first language is English, or people we know can talk English properly, yet choose to "typ lyk dis cus itz to kl"
And if we discourage one member, and 20 more learn from him, would that be so bad? The rank wouldn't last, but if the bad SPG continues, it would be reapplied to his profile. That was my idea

Hmm… I don't know about it being discouraging, it's kind of in the middle - for the ones who agree giving it to the person, they have the point of view of it being a punishment, but then again if the person happened to be the type that after he gets village clown or so, he thinks "omg i iz speshul!1" - which then again might lead to him thinking he succeeded in… something? and stopping the spamming/shit since he has something that he can show with he did the thing he got "punished" for, or then think that the harder he spams the more he gets cups and reputation.

definately no, its wrong to make fun of peoples disabilities/inabilities to write and spell properly. if they can talk normal but choose to talk like an idiot then yes, but i doubt anyone would do that? no reason for someone to make themselves look dumb. so big NO from me
Exactly my thoughts, as I suggested on the first page, there should only be cups that stimulate in a positive way.

I don't know if this whole cup thread is open still but like Wizzup? said…
"Stimulate in a positive way."
I took a psychology course in school and we learned about different behavioral shaping techniques… and without a doubt the best one there is, is positive re-enforcement.
Positive meaning you give them something (Ex. A Cup or Avatar Change)
Re-enforcement meaning you want them to continue a certain behavior (Ex. Helpful Posts, Community Involvement)
I can't think of any spectacular cups that are needed now, but I felt as though I should give some input on the topic.

"Spelling-Champion's Cup" - For the people with good English, good grammar and a good vocabulary.
"Spelling-Failure" - For somebody who accidentally messed up a few words :p It could be really cool if it automatically got removed after a few days. (This could be fun, but I strongly doubt anybody here likes it)
But true, I think it would be kind of unfair to hand out cups to people who aren't as good in one thing as others. It would be like giving out a "You-Suck-At-Scripting"-cup to those who are active, friendly and helpful but can't script.

I think one for consistently good grammar and spelling would be nice, but there's a lot of people who'd get it, so it'd also be sort of meaningless and a pain for whoever is giving them out.

How about an "Epic Post" Cup, for people who write very well thought out and meaningful posts. It would be easy to give out because if they're epic enough to deserve it a lot of people will probably have read it.
It may stimulate users to write more deeply about topics and hopefully it will motivate people to try to do something big and exciting to get people involved on the forum.

An epic post is sort of a useful post, isn't it? :)

No preference. If it was made nicely and all, then yeah, it'd be cool.
All depends on Dank though, and I doubt he'll be doing any work like that anytime soon, judging by his relative disappearance from these forums.

He's here every once in awhile.. Just doesn't post and is usually set to invisible mode. But I dunno if our server can handle much more:cartman:

It sounds like a good idea to me Claw but I think we need to really sit and think of a generally "perfect" way to execute this system so that the potential for abuse is exceptionally low while it doesn't make it annoying to give "rep".

It's the most important random solver..

hmmm box is differently not the hardest because i have solved it before >.<.
But it is important.
I would say the mysterious guy is a true symbol for randoms.. because he gives the box, mordaut, pinball, and almost every random x).
but over all i don't really care.. that cup looks cool :)

Maybe we could make a cup for persistence?
IE: Some people have continually tried and failed to get into members, but they never gave up, and eventually got in.
IE: Some people come here and are terrible at scripting, but they really want to learn to script, and they keep on struggling through, and eventually they learn how to write good scripts.
I think this kind of person deserves some recognition.

Sounds like a good idea Smartz, but I rather don't give it to people like Hermpie who apply 4359438435435843854435439584 times until the members feel sad for him and vote yes.
But cups should be something you always can receive, not only in the beginning of your "career" =/
