Probably the easiest and most affective way to end most of spamming… please vote accordingly to what you think.
If you're confused about what I'm talking about, I'm talking about the number of posts you have made being displayed on the forum for others to see.
Edit: Erm, what the hell? Where's my poll?

But what about millenium posts? I like seeing new ones :). Also, this would totally make the new "Millenium Posts" forum useless.
EDIT: PostCount++

Why not just base it off of longevity? Such as a yearly post. or 10%, 20%, 30%, 50% ect…

Lol. Poll. Gone.
Postcount should be there. It shows how long a certain person has been a member of the community. Spamming isn't such a big problem anyway.

Won't Longevity percentage (such as 10%, 50%, 80% ect…) and/or yearly (one year anniversary posts from join date) posts be much more accurate then? You say spamming isn't such a big problem, well it kinda is and this would make it much less of one.
I disagree. I don't think anyone really pays that much attention to post count. It's obvious that people are spamming to get noticed, not to increase their post count.

Well if no one pays attention to post count then why have it? It causes more bad than good obviously.
It may encourage some people to make more posts but those posts aren't necessarily spam. It may encourage someone to go through thte Scar Help forum.

How about we make a section "Useless SPAM" and you can spam there and it won't affect your Postcount? (Like what Sp0rk-eh does on his forums)

Because people spam outside that forum, and people would still look at postcount as a good representation of contribution when it's really not. That method doesn't exactly solve much.

AFAIK, spamming = offtopic, maybe in bigger appearances, so, if someone would spam to get attention, wouldn't they be going around from thread to thread saying stuff like "OMG OMG OMG!! <link>" or something?

I'm not sure I fully understand what you said but something along the lines of people don't spam to get attention as much as they do to get a higher post count which in return is to get attention but because of total post count not because of individual posts that are spam.
I could be wrong, explain… XD

The post count isn't the problem.
It's all the off topic crap.
People won't stop posting off topic if all we do is get rid of the post count bar.

True it won't stop all of the off topic crap, nothing ever will, but isn't this another step in the right direction? How can we ever stand a chance of solving this problem if we never even try to take any measures to fix it? Aren't we all here to make this community a better place? I look at postcount and see a golden opportunity to stop a lot of useless posting, I also see more bad being done than good.
It's definitively something to consider more than the immediate response, I would strongly advise everyone that disagrees to reconsider.

A forum was just made specially for millenium posts.
Post count is not going to go away, there is no need to.
Taking it away won't solve enough of the problem to be worth it.
Post count doesn't realistically get you anything at SRL. And if you believe so and post like a madman… then your count is reset

It's funny because n3ss3s has earned more respect from me than he can possibly imagine.

All your polls are belong to us.
I can't see the postcount bar being removed. Every spammer makes ten posts and leaves, how is that harmful? If you do it long enough you get a reset and sometimes ban.

i can see how it would be helpful. But it would kind of be harder to tell if people do spam if no one has a postcount.
If someone is applying for members, then you'd want to know if they spam. I dont look at every thread, people could spam (a lot) without my knowing, and then me go and vote for their membership and they have 1000 posts of spam and have been members for a month. :)
plus milleniums are cool :) and i dont think its going to happen

Shouldn't you be basing your vote off of their ability to script and their maturity they display in the application instead of post count related issues?
"Milleniums are cool" Yea just replace that with yearly join date anniversary threads and longevity percentage landmarks.

yea, but i've seen people say - you know you having {x} posts is bad since u've been here so short. I think someone voted no on my app because of my postcount :(. Anyways, it was an example. Helps you compare people's postcount to their longevity to see if they post an obscene amount of spam :). Also then you'd have to get rid of average posts per day or else they could get that times how long they've been there :)…i think :p
For the record, I had 7 posts when I was made an SRL member. I think half of them were on my application.
For example-
Honestly, everyone knows that R0b0t1 posts on every thread he can with random shit no one cares about. You don't like it, I don't like it, no one else likes it, but taking away post count won't make him just stop posting. Post count gets you nothing on these forums. I know I shouldn't be talking about one person in particular whereas there are at least a handful of people, not including intentional spam coming from people trying to make themselves Junior Members, that just do not contribute whatsoever. Something should and will be done sometime in the near future, but I don't think post count has anything to do with it.
Hopefully this is more clear.

well what if we had another "fakawi" or "wizzup" ? they would be posting very useful posts and maybe they post alot, does that make them spammers? nope, BUT, if they were based off of longetivity, and they were smarter than you, wouldnt that make them seem dumb and you seem smart since your longetivity is higher than theirs even though its not true?

In my opinion, there is no need to delete post count.
I don't think anyone honestly spams to get post count up.
Though maybe there could be more strictness in the judging of to give an infraction for spam or not to, for example Ray, I admit that I have spammed/ made a really useless post like three times in front of him, and I didn't get an infraction - even though ray is the lazy mod :(
So, maybe if there'd be cruelty++ in the giving out of infractions?
If someone gets offended from an infraction, it means they feel guilty IMO.

It just sounds offtopic to you… It usually has deep meaning which most mere mortals on this board will ever access.
Oh, and your on my list.
And you're right, removing post count wouldn't do anything to stop me – because my intention is not to spam. usually.

I wouldn't be surprised if everyone, even yourself, agrees with what Town has said. The only thing worst than posting garbage, is posting garbage then denying your intention isn't to do so. Maybe if people like you just acted like they should, fessed up, and stopped, the world would be a much better place and we wouldn't have to worry about stupid things like post count and wasting time discussing punishments and rules.
Tell me I'm wrong.
