I'm going to get braces in a few days and i would like to know how it actually is because i am kind of scared and i hate needles.

I just want to know what it is like and how it feels and what to do and what not to do.

For me, they put a lot of this bluegrayish thing in my mouth, you feel for couple seconds that if you don't cough you will choke, then, they put this brown shit to the back of my teeth, kicked the iron in.

It hurts a bit for the first few days, maybe a week or two and you just can't attack that hamburger (tested).

Try not to eat dumbles or other related chocolate - toffee candies, they get stuck, and you will be trying to get them off with your tongue for a half an hour.

Don't put your tongue between your thethingthatsinyourmouthbelowyourbrainsandso and the braces, they loosen up that way and if they "drop" you have to go thru the same process again, though without the blue stuff, but that is replaced with PAIN (not really).

The above is my case, don't know if you get the other type of braces then..

You don't need a needle (at least I didn't) and it only hurts in the first few days after you get them put on and after they get tightened (when you teeth start moving). Also you might get a couple of ulcers and stuff initially but your tongue and your gums get used to it quite fast.

So yea… its not that bad and the result is well worth the pain. Good Luck :D

Hm, never had them.. But my friend got them like a week ago and he says it hurts like hell to eat etc. and that they're scratching his cheeks from the inside or something :p ..

I have had like all kind of braces for many years when I was a kid, they didn't really fix much I think. Atleast I still have little weird teeth but I really don't care about it, it's fine for me.

For few days (depending on braces) talking, eating and sleeping can be little hard because it does hurt a bit… But you'll get used to it very quick and it really doesn't change your life, trust me. Just don't eat gum or toffee, atleast that's what my dentist said.

I've never had braces, even though some of my teeth are sitting so weird that you could play piano on them… Quite weird now I think of it.

But I think you should be alright… My sister had it, and she spoke and ate normally. And if somebody bullies you with it, you can always come to us. We can't see you, eh ;)

I had braces, and they were very painful. They say that they only hurt the first few days, but man, that is not true. It's that it's the most painful the first few days, and then it starts to gradually become a routine of pain. Eventually you might not remember that you are in pain, but only if you're lucky.
Have you gone through the point where you have to let them get a mold of your teeth?

As for what you should not do is wiggle your teeth, theres a chance it can come off and still be attached to the braces.

Never had braces…Don't think I'll ever need them. I brush my teeth a lot, three times a day usually. They're nice and pearly white :D.

Got them for more then 30 months now, 6 months to go.
It only hurts for a few days for me after I got them, and after they put new wires on them.

Yeah, but it's not tooo bad. Sometimes the blood can clot up the gums though…Thats why they tell you not to eat caramel. My brother did that, and it literally ripped a few segments of the lining between the tooth and the gum…He was screaming all night, I could barely get any sleep with him yapping and crying.

You've got nothing to worry about. Getting them put in is painless, and all you have to deal with is uber soreness after they are first put in and after they are adjusted.

when u put on doesnt hurt at all and they do inject you in ur gums to make it NUMB doesnt hurt infact i like when they do that =D feelz good hehe

but after u get them UGH WORST DAY OF LIFE! for a week or so ur teeth will be acheing.. cant eat and SOAR! i had to eat soup/icecream it hurts but GL

Didn't stop me from eating anything but whole apples. Oh, one thing to keep in mind, if you're gonna have gum/anything else you're 'not supposed to have', don't be surprised if a couple of the metal pieces come unglued from your teeth. I think I had five total come off in two years. Lets just say my orthodontist wasn't too happy :p

Does it hurt to get more n while you have already had some in?

Oh, and i just have an overbite about the size of my pinky (the smallest finger), my teeth are straight and everything. My pinky is about 8mm wide.

They hurt, but you've been told that. But its always longer than they say.



But hey, you might be lucky if they give you laughing gas like I got… Man, that stuff is soooooooooooo fun.

They hurt after you get them taken em off too, and you can barely eat. It's also painful when they take them off, and sometimes little chips come out.

They're well worth the small amount of pain.

My orthodontist didn't use any needles when I had mine on. The only discomfort I had while they were putting them on was how long I had to keep my mouth wide open for.

Also I hate the rubber bands they make you use. They can be somewhat painful sometimes if you don't use them frequently.

But as everyone has said, well worth the slight discomfort for the results. I only had to wear mine for about 1 year instead of the predicted 1 and a half years.

Ok, i just went for a check up and the orthodontist said i will need to get plates for 18 months then braces for 6 months. And i will get them at 2/4/2008. For you americans it would be on the first of April.

I have to wear mine for about a year and a half at the start, but my orthodontist screwed up and now it will be longer.

Well i have to get plates for about 18 months then braces for 6 more months. I heard plates is easier and it doesn't hurt. They already took a mould of my mouth (weird stuff :p). But i still have to get braces. And i reckon Jack is the only one who is telling the truth about braces ;)

Yes, Jack ;) And it won't be in 6 months. First i get plates for 18 months in April then after 18 months i get braces for 6 months.

lol, Markus and I are the ones that know this stuff. I guess a little depends on the braces, but braces are braces. If you chew gum during it, little bits of metal stick to your teeth for a long time - thats true, I think, and you have to go to the orthodontist every now and then where they take the rubber bands, twist them off, and ask you what color you want. THEN they twist in more rubber bands, and every now and then the orthodontist 'nurse' who does this will have a habit of pulling when they do this.

One of the main problems I had with braces, was that I would take the wire out, which isn't very smart, but…anyway, if you take it out, you have to get the wire through a tiny hole. If you don't, you'll have a wire swishing around in your food, and you'll be chewing on stainless steel. I actually stabbed it so deep into my back "gum", that I thought it was in the hole until I started brushing my teeth and blood was coming out. That stuff about me crying all night from the pain is an exaggeration though, idk what sis was talking about. It didn't traumatize me or anything, but if you go to "step 3" I think they call it, you have to wear retainers. If you don't, you have to get braces AGAIN.

But theres a nurse at the office I go to that has a habit of pushing her breasts in my face. But I'm not complaining.

Never had them, and hopefully i never will. If i do have to .. Ill punch them out, or the guy that puts them.

Needles? lol they aint gonna trill holes in ur teeth :p They're glued on, it's incredibly annoying, but you get used to it, and once it's over you'll be happy with the result :) (Afterwards they might glue wires at the back of ur teeth that could have to be in there for the rest of your life :)

I have braces they hurt for about a week. And no needels involved they just put glue in your mouth. They dry out your mouth first. Also remember when there putting them on nevery to put your tounge near the glue, it tastes RANK!
Also always have the color silver as that makes you look less gay and mor dignified.

Well i've never needed bracers so i asked my brother and sisters about it, all 3 of them had them for 2 year. They all said the same thing, hurt like hell the first 6 months, especially when they tried to eat.

Braces aren't too bad too tell the truth

I had train tracks for quite a while, ill tell you what they do at each stage so you know what to expect:

Firstly, they make an impression of your current teeth. They will put a putty like substance into your mouth and hold it there for about 1 minute so that the impression is made and it sets. Be aware that when they take it off, your teeth will be slightly stuck to the putty and so your orthodotist will have to pull a bit.

After a few weeks, when your braces have been made, you will go back for the brackets and the wire being fitted. Sometimes they also have to expand the roof of your mouth, like what n3s3s said, and so they will put an arch into your mouth. It connects to your 2 back molars and goes over the roof of your mouth, without actually touching the roof of your mouth.
She will then glue the brackets to your teeth using something like superglue (slightly stronger), wait for them to dry, and then put in the wire. The ends of the wire will be clipped with (sometimes) pretty big pliers. Just make sure your tongue is well out of the way. Then the wire will be tightened.

The brackets will probably be put on wonky at first, but they will sort themselves out as your teeth move. The putty doesn't taste very nice at all. You won't be able to eat anythin for about a week after the wire has been tightened each time. Try eating foods you can mush easily at the top of your mouth, or which you can drink like soup. Take a few pain killers before having your wires changed each time so if doesn't hurt as much.

Thats about all the advice i can give you

@Daniel, yeah, thats called a mold. The stuff that you take in little flavors? When I took that, I vomited all over the place and they just proceeded to do the mold. It wasn't very enjoyable.

Like he said, eat mush. Your parents will probably start buying a lot of applesauce. Try not to rub against the braces, because your lips can get stuck in the brackets. Thats why they usually put in a bumper, I think.

Thats why I like laughing gas… You're almost immune to throwing up.
