Question on amount of VMs running on a Server computer

Hey, I was thinking of buying a server computer (for fun/business). Here are the specs:
12 GB ECC RAM
2x XEON Intel 3.2 GHz
Redundand power supplies
2 x 1 Gb NIC
5 x 148 GB SCSI HD 15,000 RPM in a RAID 5 (PERC controller)
Its a Dell Poweredge 2650
(this is directly off the ad, assuming the CPU is 64 bit)
Running TinyXP as my host, how many VMs could I run? (Side note, does TinyXP have like networking options? I still want to use it as a server)
I was hoping to get at least 6.
Also, is there some type of mathmatical calculation I can do to figure out how many I can run on other computers?
Thanks,
cause

EDIT: Also, would it be better just to get a bunch of computers. I can get 5 computers with these specs:
2 x 866 Mhz
512 Ram

Would those run 2 each?

PS Also, is it more efficient to run ***** instead of a VM?

Much better to get the Xeon server. The Dual 866's can probably run 1 VM and nothing on the host.

I would say 1 VM per per 1ghz and 512mb of RAM. Thats without autoing on the host.

TinyXP does not have any networking programs or options left in it. They were all taken out to slim it down, so you wouldn't be able to run it with TinyXP.

ok, scrap running a server as well, can you setup VM to run off the other processer? Also, ea computer comes with like 40 gb hardddrive or so, can't I jack up the Virtual ram or something? I don't want to go anything more than this, because the price goes through the roof. That is, I'm going with 5 smaller computers instead of 1 biggy

Do not go with 5 smaller…I got 512 RAM and it is semi laggy. When a script regularly lags on my comp, like for OpenBankQuick, or random solver, or anything else, it will really really lag and eff up my script on VM. For the server thing, I though I was good with comps, lol but i'd never heard of half those specs, so I don't know what to say about your altra comp thing. Lastly, why you want to auto so much? With the new trade updates no one has armies of auto acounts. Unless your selling the acount itself to someone for real life money, but still you'd be taking a loss unless you sold TONS of acounts.

Well the 5 smaller will give you about 1.73ghz and 512mb. Which fails for running any more than 1 VM without autoing on the host. Virtual RAM is just a swap file meaning it just makes large files quick for access, it is not meant as a replacement for RAM, nor will it run as it. It is much too slow.

Now if you could buy each of the 5 smaller machines another gig of RAM, you may be able to run two. I am not completely sure though. Although, I would guess so, because you can make each VM steal a different processor, so that they don't try to steal each others processing power. You may be able to run two with at least another gig of RAM.

Otherwise, I would try finding something inbetween the two.

It is most definite I will not be doing anything with these computers besides autoing, so your saying with my 2 processers, and 512 + (another 512 or so?) per computer, I could run 2 VMS? Because thats totally do-able. Also, what about 4 cpus running 700 Mhz ea? If SCAR is running on 1 processer, can it automatically power power from the other 3 if it needs to? Also, can I get the quad cpu and get like a buttload of ram then run like 5 off of it?
Also, would overclocking help at all?
Thanks yo

If you do go with a server type computer don't go with one that runs on Intel. The Xeon processors share the FSB so it will be really congested. Get one with AMD cause then each processor has its own pathway to everything (example drawings below)

Intel Xeon

AMD Opteron

I've decided to just build my own off Newegg, even with a pretty good mid range graphics card, I'm coming out to only $430. Thats a dual 2.2 Ghz processer and 4 gbs ram. Should be a sweet machine, also its supposed to be an overclock king, hopefully get over 6 Ghz. Wahoo, should run 10 or so.
EDIT: Does video card count for anything? Do I even need one? Can i just use the integrated video?
