I'm one of the people he said he's giving membership to on January 3rd. He wants username and passwords to do it. At first I was suspicious as to the way he's doing this. Then i realized that it's after jan 1st, so no unbalanced trades. I have a bank pin, so no real threat of him getting my stuff. Only harm i think he could do is a ban me script, which i could appeal out of due to him having a different IP than me. I asked him why he's doing this rather than donating to SRL itself, and haven't gotten a reply yet. I find this suspicious. Any thoughts from you good people?

Edit: His reply to not donating to SRL directly
I know, but this just seems to benifit the members directly more =P

also can anyone verify that this is true? Hopefully santa.
Ok, now I know I am not "trusted" yet, but this community is sooo great and has helped me so much in RS. I am letting Santa_Clause use my memby account to make DTM's so ask him if I am legit.

It's possible that:

He found a way around drop trading/not being to trade over 3k at a time…etc.

He could change your password and Jagex's recovery system completely sucks, even if you know your own recoveries and he's hoping that it will continue to suck after he hacks you, and then he may decide to do whatever he wants with your account for profit (sell it, use it as his own…etc.)

IDK though, I didn't even look at the thread :p just stating why I wouldn't give him my user name and password.

I currently have a bank pin, so even if he does something I'll have (I believe a week?) until he can get at anything that matters at all. Even if he gets into my bank most valuable item in there is a rune platebody. combat 79 low other skills, and completely broke. I don't have that much to lose. I'm probably going to give it a shot.

the only risk is that he will always be able to recover the account, whenever he wants because he will have all the transaction numbers etc. ask him if he will give you these numbers, and all the details, because if he does then you can always reclaim it :)

Could you kindly elaborate on this, my account that became a member is gone now so I have no idea how being a member relates to recovering your account.

Ok, well in the recover my account section of rs.com. Where you enter in the recovery questions, previous passwords, etc. Theres a section for entering in membership transaction numbers, like the pin number if you paid by phone and the transaction ID if you paid by credit card. And I'm pretty sure that all you need to recover any account is a previous password and a transaction id/pin number from buying members. And he would have an old password, since you would have to give him one for him to put members on.

So my advice is dont get it on your main, get it on an OK level autoer and run some members scripts :) Unless you want to risk your main.

Thats why im going to give him a lv 3 noob account. And pick flax or some shit then idk what after.

I'll probably give him my main. Hes got low stats and I play for the scripting and not for the runescape. I've got a total human play time on him of like 8 hours. rest was autoed. If I lose the whole account I don't really care. If it's real then I get to have some fun with my friend who is member.

Erm…I have no idea who he is…he might be someone I asked an account off a long time ago…but I think I told them I didn't need the account in the end. Don't remember him…sorry.

Doods what is wrong?

You don't need to give anyone your password for him to put the pin in or whatever, you can just copy the link from where you are in the membership buying place, like Right Click > Page Info > Linx.

Look: https://billing_surfpin.runescape.com/a/1199088453055/b/7442122120428870092/c/1360121274/d/3672373605232807/e/HXMiIV%38CRnVKRXX%36BHuI%34qGdNE%32Mj%2Fwi/f/96a34ae6978b205a359417935e947ce0/redeempin.ws?cid=77&type=2

There are a few things I should point out about this member.

He joined in April or May 2007, and his first post was about attempting to learn to script. You can see his first post here:
http://www.srl-forums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11143

He didn't seem very interested in scripting after he made his thread. So, he probably gave up on it after failing a few times.

When he gave up, he left SRL-Forums for a few months, until December.

Here's where some compelling evidence paradoxes with his free membership statements. If you go back to his first thread, he mentions that he is fourteen years old. Now, how can a person that is 14 years old own a credit card, and get a paying job that pays to his bank account?

If I know the law, then it states that you have to be 18 or 21 (depending what state you live in) to setup a bank account. Not only that, but you have to be 16 years old to apply for a job.

His post is not 2 years old, so he cannot possibly have a legit paying job. He might bet fifteen years old now, but still, not legiable for a real job.

Why is he doing this?

Theory One
When he did leave SRL-Forums because he gave up on scripting, he probably stayed at Sythe. He learned about some scams, and wanted to get mad money. He found a thread on Sythe that explains in detail how to evade the new trade limit.

Fantastic! He thinks to himself, so he remembers about this SRL-Forum and how thriving it was when he last visited. Since SRL Members do not visit Sythe (he thinks) he will try and scam them (he assumes we don't know how to evade the 3k gp limit).

He makes a thread, asking for passwords from the most respected members (whom he thinks have the most money, since they have the most posts and are the most "respected").

Theory Two
He wants to macro for mad money! Or just macro to gain some levels. But he can't do that when he doesn't have SRL-Junior nor Member status.

He figures that he'll make a thread asking for passwords from the people that have the most access to scripts, offering membership in RS in return.

He hopes that the passwords in the game are the same passwords the SRL-Members use on SRL-Forums.

Just some ideas. I would not want trust this person, if you asked me. There could be lots of reasons he is doing this…

Okay, you have to choose now, are you
a) Sherlock
b) The ol' lady from The Murder She Wrote
c) The Doctor with da gray hair, can't remember name.

I have the most posts but the slightest respect xD

Haha :p

However, if he uses the URL method, it should be legit…

From: the person thats giving memberships
O, kool well then we shall do that on the 3rd either way =P

All he will get is a username, and his transaction + agreement ID's. He cannot recover without a password (or so I think) so it should be okay to give a try :p.

Doesn't seem like it would hurt, but what I don't get is that he's too young to use a credit card…

Probably hates SRL-Members for not helping him more in his first thread, so he wants to neg-ban all their RS accounts by using a stolen CC. Hehe

Anyways I'm not going to do this as if I ever get members I'll just do it myself, lol it's not that hard.

Not trying to ignore….Nothing really to add to your comment though. Sure, they can prosecute from unlawful payments if it's a large amount. Idk…

You don't have to be 18 to get a credit card here. You can go to wallgreens and get a 30 dollar pre-paid card for 32 dollars lol. It works for membership subscriptions and anything else that needs a credit card.

I already have one account locked because I bought a pin that hadn't been paid for. Anytime you reverse payment on a membership you are given negative credit that can only be paid off using PayByCash. You're account is locked until it's paid off.

Yes, but that isn't a credit card. It's a pre-paid or debit card. There's a difference, one of them is paid for before hand and one is not. To obtain the latter you must be above 18. I love that word.
