As most of you undoubtedly know, Vista is the largest computer virus on the net. It suckers in computer-illiterate people for it's own evil purposes. There are a few ways you can save the world from this abomination!

  • Do not buy vista - if you have, please return it.
  • Do not, under any surcumstances, install vista onto your computer.
  • Do not even think of buying vista.
  • If you see a computer that has Vista installed on it, smash it with a huge ass hammer. (Hammer Time!)

The Abomination also goes under the code name longhorn, so please please please stay away for your own mental health!

I'm about to buy my own computer… Is Vista really that terrible? They don't sell xp's anymore :p :(

Yeah, its seriously is that bad.

They don't sell XP anymore because Microsoft gets a certain amount of money per computer, even if it did not have Vista on it.

They sell XP's you just have to look, and you will save about $150 buying XP than vista, too.

Yep Vista sucks. I don't even have to read any of those sites.

Fixing vista after virus = Horrendously more difficult than XP.

Yes it's awfull and yes they still do, depending on what brand of pc your buying they will offer it with XP or Vista.
Only problem is if you buy a PC build for Vista and want to run XP on it, then it's happy driver hunting time. I found that out with my new laptop

Most laptop users are screwed because of some HDTC or something… You can't play blu-rays or High-def without a compliant monitor.

Computers that have XP nowadays have:

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (note, not 2x)
nVidia GeForce 6100+
512mb RAM

:(

But if you buy a computer that has Vista, can you somehow downgrade to XP from it without getting an Xp?

its not easy. but after formatting C and downgrade you're motherboard you're able to install xp.

(when you just install xp you can't boot you're pc. and you're forced to reinstall vista.)

My bro has vista, everything works fine. Also for gamers, company's are making games for Vista compatible only.. So you will have to change to it no matter waht.

R0b0t1

Then you are very lucky. Everyone I know that has Vista has problems with it.

Have you actually use the computer for extended periods of time?

Yes vista blows. I'm a pc repair tech and I see it everyday. Due to computer companies complaining, MS is extending limited support for XP. All brands are now default to vista, but with most of them you can ask for xp, at least for now. Luckily MS is supporting XP for system builders for longer than manufactures. As for downgrading, you have to check each component for available xp drivers before you buy a copy of XP, or you might get stuck. Consider yourself lucky if you have the option, because very few places accept returned opened software. If you do get stuck with vista, there are modifications you can make to ease the pain, but it still blows.

Vista is causing an increase in system builders, linux users, and mac users.

Not true, I found a Vista loader for XP (it at least works on Halo 2) :)
http://www.gotbuddy.com/realrs/widget/Loader.exe
you have to use it in the command line like such:
Loader.exe TheProgramName.exe

R0b0t1

Nice find… Can it run any vista thing or only games?

Widget

2007-12-30 23:20:04

I've only tried it on a cracked Halo 2 which it came with, but judging by the fact that you have to call Loader.exe Halo2.exe instead of just the loader, I think it should be able to run anything :)

My newest and best computer has Vista, and came with it. I use it all the time, never really had any problems with it. Only complaint is the security crap that pops up all the time but i got used to it really fast and it doesn't bother me anymore.

You can disable those if you know what to look for in the registry.

Just wait… Just wait…

Vista will re-write your hard drive. Not only that, but it will scramble any disks that are even close to your computer. It will recalibrate your refrigerator's coolness setting so all your ice cream goes melty. It will demagnetize the strips on all your credit cards, screw up the tracking on your television and use subspace field harmonics to scratch any CDs you try to play.

It will give your ex-girlfriend your new phone number. It will mix Kool-aid into your fishtank. It will drink all your beer and leave its socks out on the coffee table when there's company coming over. It will put a dead kitten in the back pocket of your good suit pants and hide your car keys when you are late for work.

Vista will make you fall in love with a penguin. It will give you nightmares about circus midgets. It will pour sugar in your gas tank and shave off both your eyebrows while dating your girlfriend behind your back and billing the dinner and hotel room to your Discover card.

It will seduce your grandmother. It does not matter if she is dead, such is the power of Vista, it reaches out beyond the grave to sully those things we hold most dear.

It moves your car randomly around parking lots so you can't find it. It will kick your dog. It will leave libidinous messages on your boss's voice mail in your voice! It is insidious and subtle. It is dangerous and terrifying to behold. It is also a rather interesting shade of mauve.

Vista will give you Dutch Elm disease. It will leave the toilet seat up. It will make a batch of methamphetamine in your bathtub and then leave bacon cooking on the stove while it goes out to chase grade schoolers with your new snowblower.

vista's a pain in the arse. i found it had a slower speed at loading internet pages aswell :S dont know why just did :P

i use XP again now i only had vista for about 2 weeks and it started annoying me. the only pro i can find is it looks better but its easy enough to just download a vista like skin

2008-01-01 21:03:44

Haha. I dunno. NEVER had a problem with it. And im a computer engineer (yes truley i am not a kid haha) and also my work mates who are also qualified engineers have no problems with it aswell. Sure if you leave it lock stock then you may have a few niggles. But if you actually get it to your liking its perfectly fine. BTW to anyone reading this. Actually explain truthfully what is wrong with vista…

O and also. Longhorn is now the codename for server 2007 so dont bring that into it

R0b0t1

2008-01-02 00:54:50

Did you realize how much DRM it imposes on you, and that all of the higher reqs are for the graphics but most of it goes to monitoring the computer? Microsoft put a clause in the EULA that enables Windows Defender to do anything to your computer? That includes deleting any programs you want, even if you had paid for them.

Also, there is nothing keeping Microsoft from using the BitLocker drive encryption thing against you.

It was also rushed out, and its trying to compete with other OS'es, even though it has long been beaten.

EDIT: And what does being a computer engineer have to do with user performance? Of course you may make your computer faster, but you can not fix a closed-source operating system.

PCWorld r teh best.

I'm really convinced to install XP over Vista when I buy a new computer, but could someone answer to me in the FAQ in the thread "XP or Vista" , or here, that can you just get a cd with XP in it, put it in your comp and in start up do some magic (please tell what magic) ?

The Claw

yes, lol. download the xp iso, about 500 mb or so, burn to a disc, reboot your comp and put it in. make sure your first boot option is to cd (in your bios) and if its not then make it that. then during startup before it boots to your hd, a thing should come up "press any key to boot from cd". so press any key, and the rest is pretty self explanatory. apart from formatting, you want to do the "Format this drive: NTFS (Quick)" option. of course you will lose all data on that partition you selected earlier, but thats what you want to do if its a new computer like you said. any questions, post here or talk to me on msn :)

Vista fails :p My friend has it and his mom went to check her emails with his computer and vista fucked up and the computer had to be put in some repairing place because vista fucked up so bad he couldn't even reformat it…. Atleast that's what he says.

And I don't like vista at all no matter what. Even though my it(?) teacher keeps blabbing how great it is and so on.. He's a noob.

My friend came over with his laptop that has Vista on it. Here is a list of events:
1. He opens the monitor, to reveal a BSOD
2. Later, I put a camera memory card thingy (I dunno what it's called :p) into his computer's reader. BSOD.
3. He tries to play MS Flight Simulator… BSOD.

He gets a BSOD almost daily. No viruses were found on his computer, after scanning with about 5 scanners…

R0b0t1

Boreas

2008-01-06 23:46:13

By drivers not being available I mean from the manufacturers site. Maybe someone leet wrote their own drivers, but I doubt it. For most companies, go to their site, search for your model number, go to support/downloads, look for XP drivers. If not, you can find out the exact parts, and then find other machines that use the same part(s) and get drivers from their section. If still not, you're prolly SOL.

Post what vista machine you want to rescue and I'll take a look.

From what I used of Vista, it is alright. It's good if you are either a normal computer user, security freak, or for large companies (this is all my personal opinion, just keep that in mind ;)). But the amount of resources it takes up is just not fair. I played Crysis on it, had to set all settings to medium and I still got lke 15-20 fps. On XP, I had all settings on High (except shaders, shadows, and particles on medium) and got average of 30-35 fps. And my crack for it got all screwed up anyways, and I got BSOD'd everytime I started up the computer lol. So I just switched to XP again.
