SRL Public Member Scripting Contest

Your objective as an SRL Public Member Contest participant is to within 30 days create a RuneScape script that shows great progress in your scripting abilities.

Rules:

1. The script must be 100% written in your own code with and all code that is not your own must be used with permission and clearly commented.
2. Include use is acceptable and no deduction of points will be made for its use however at the discretion of contest coordinator points may be added for proper use of the include file or completely original procedures created to replace the include file or a portion of the include file.
3. Each and every script will be graded by the SRL Members of this forum.
4. You will have until one week from today to register as a contest participant (September 3, 2006) and an additional 30 days to create your masterpiece (October 3, 2006).
5. Each and every script will be judged based on the grading system below.

Grading System:

1. Each Script will be graded based upon a 10 point system.
2. SRL Members and above automatically become script judges and can participate at their own will.
3. The Scripts are to be graded based upon effort shown and progress made.
4. 1 point is automatically added for using proper scripting standards. (It is possible to tell where auto formatters are used)
5. And most important of them all: Have Fun!

Reward:

1. Possible new rank (based upon admin approval).
2. Improved forum member trust.
3. Help from me on your next scripting project.
4. Anything else kind members of this forum wish to add.

Deadlines:

1. 1 week from start of contest to register as a contest participant
2. 1 month from registration deadline to complete project

If anyone has something to add before the start of the contest please do so, this is only a draft of the contest that I think could help get SRL Public members scripting…
However, I think it need a reward that they can not get any other way or at least they would have a harder time obtaining, I would be willing to give up my Stress Miner auth if Starblaster will let me transfer it for this cause (seeing how I dont use it anyways…)

Aha We have been discussing this in the Developers section for afew weeks now but we havent decided on

• a Decent Prize
• Who/How to Judge
• If it Will Be Used or Not ( no sense having a contest if only 1 guy joins it :cool: )

I like the scripting cup idea special 1 time rank only or something maybe who knows, ill try and set it up soon, Discuss what you guys think would work or be good heres my ideas on the contest so far

The script will be judged on, but not in this order :

• Function ( Will It Work , How Long Will It Work, Etc )
• Appearance ( Proper Standards, Attractive Comments, Etc )
• Usefulness ( A Overnight Beer Buyer is Useless whereas a Miner is not? )
• Difficulty

Who to Judge, These are the options we have mentiond already

• Developers
• SRL Members
• SRL Public
• Combo of All or Some?

Prizes, Prizes, Prizes :biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

• Scripting Cup
• Funky Title?
• Private Script ( by Me or Fakawi or somebody? )

Aww man I thought I had somewhat original idea, and I know the grading system I proposed needs work…

I also think for the reward it would be nice to see the community give a little for good of its members…

I got another great idea. What if make couples of noobs/leechers and SRL Members/Developers. Well maybe not developers, they could be the judge. But anyway, the idea is to make couples and that the SRL Members try to learn these leechers some scripting manners and the leecher that makes the best script will be awarded with… something. Perhaps the rank Uber Leecher and the member the rank Uber Trainer or something. :tongue: . Just an idea, can be changed in anyway, but i dunno (yes it sounds strange ;)) if we have enough leechers for this :). Anyway, i'll be willing to apply for this ;)

Fun idea, I would join but school is starting for me tommorrow(:( ), very sad indeed. I would never have the time.

I'd be willing to train up a nubbles for that :) But how would you be sure it wasn't just the teachers script?

The only thing is that anyone can create a public account so that may not work to let public members vote…

I think you missed the point, then again i dont know if you meant my idea or yours, but asuming you meant my idea : it was my idea that couples were formed. 1 noob, 1 SRL-Member and that the Developers could vote on who did the best job.

Ok this is just a suggestion. For now there should be a sub-forum in Members Only script section and people that are Competing can post their scripts andt not allowed to vote .

Well I don't know how you do "perfect standards" but I do know that it is evident when an attemp to standardize is made and that is what I think we should count.

well my opinion on this matter is as follows

NO ONE has 'perfect' standards. Me and Fawki's standards, for example, vary greatly he likes to use bizzare spacing, as does wizzup, and it drives me crazy when im trying to read there work. So in there standards should just be clean and explained by how they spaced it if it differs from the original RSN standards (I forget where he posted them)

Also I think there should be a Judges panel of willing judges. I for one would enjoy being a judge. Plus I would like to add that if the winner of the contest wins I would like to offer the prize of me answering any questions he wants answered about scar, scar scripting, and stuff like that. yeah that sounds kind of silly but you all know I know my stuff :P.

Why cant we find a way to combine everything people have supplied as ideas and make it truly unique in that sense

From now on everyone who cares create a draft of the contest guidelines that they think work best and we can pick the best one then work on that one to make it a good and perfect compromise. :stirthepot:

Very nice proposals guys, I like them. Though, for Sumillion's idea, there should be different titles… no one is really a leecher if they took the time to learn from a scripter and actually created a script.

We all have our own individual standards so i dont think, that should be an issue.
But i think the code should be redable.

I think it should be just a feat of engineering, (also part voodoo maybe? dun dun :eek: );
and that it doesnt really matter whether the script is "useful". :(
