Grand Prices
By Drunkenoldma, Nielsie95 and c0de

Okay, as some of you might know I had an idea to combine a SCAR script with PHP, and make something usefull out of it. The idea was to make a SCAR script that scans Grand Exchange prices, and get the itemprice out of it, put the price on a server, and tadaa, you got a searchable-item-database.
I made a thread on the Members news, asking for people that could help me, and if people would really like something like this, I got replies fast enough, and people were very willing to help, though, nielsie95 came with the first scar script, and he IM'd me on MSN too, we discussed the topic, and we worked together on what we have now, the SCAR script is downloadable here, and the website link with all the items is: http://www.ex-convicts.be.

SCAR will take items that need to be updated from an online list, and will store them back there too, so you need to give permission to scar to do that.

On the website, you will be able to register too, when you register, you can put your username and password in the SCAR script, which saves how many items you have scanned (nothing to show it yet, but will come later tonight, tomorrow, the day after, I don't know :p)

Oh, before I forget, this 'beta phase' of the project only scans for free players items, so members need to wait a bit, but it's certainly coming.

Oh, I want to thank everyone who gave his idea's, and offered some of his work, you've been great help, I wanna thank Nielsie95 so much, cuz he did all the SCAR-side, I wanna thank c0de too for his great artwork, and his help on the php-side :)

And umm, please donate, or click the ads, this will help us get money for the host, and a domain that fits the site, and to get member accounts to scan the GE for members items.

Thanks

No, as GE only refreshes every day, 24/7 is too much, with the script, I think you can scan whole GE in 2 hours :)

ow good ^^

nice script btw

You could run 24/7 though, it rests a bit when it doesn't need to search for items ;)

Someone needs some grammar lessons

There are 573 items in the database,
100 gave an error (didn't found the item, and will be fixed later on),
and thus 473 items didn't gave an error =).

Anyways, good work, I'm sure the people on the rs forums would also appreciate this ;), put some ads on their and make some money :)

Great :) Would be good to have a "Last updated" field in the database so we know when to update it next? So if it hasnt been updated for say, 2 days, then put that as high priority for the script to update it

here's my suggestion: don't only keep the current prices, also keep track of past prices. this will be of a huge economic value and we can predict what is worth selling / buying and when, which can help us decide on what to macro :) it can also help us decide what to merchant and predict future prices ;)

(yes i love economics :P)

History graph looks good :) just throwing the ideas out here now, but it would be cool to have a page which shows the biggest rises %wise over the last week, or last day or whatever. and noticed a bug…some of the more expensive items, like party hats arent showing up as their correct prices - for example, blue party hat at 5 560 000 Gp when they are a lot more than that. might be going over the integer limit at a guess? could be fixed by making the field in the db a longint maybe

You're right.. That's a bug in the script

Change a similar looking line in function GetMarketPrice to this:

Result := StrToIntDef(GetNumbers(GetTextAtEx(x - 3, y -1, 10, StatChars, False, False, 0, 2, 39321, 20, False, tr_Digits)), 0);

Thank you =]

You could do an aweful lot with that information. Its very useful. You might have well struck a goldmine here guys. The current presentation is perfect. I say let this grow for a couple of weeks and then start selling subscriptions (did I say that?) People will be very interested in this graphed out information. You've build a stock exchange. Buying/Selling in large quantities will be the next big thing in the economy. Its only natural. Its very simple now to see which items buys best and which item sells best. If I where you, I'd set up a character with lots of money on it and see how rich you can make it. I will gradly donate 1 mill :)

BTW: Do you also register min and max prices? If not, do so :)

Wow, this is truly amazing. I rarely post around here anymore (But i do look around every now and then, i just rarely feel like posting anything) But this made me want to post xD

The only suggestion i could think of is for the graphs, having the number written over each point on the graph. (If possible, might not work when there's a ton more points on the graphs though)

And like Fakawi said, the min and max prices. If it had all that it would be simply amazing. Well, it's already amazing, but still xD

I will definitely be keeping around to see how this develops, and probably be using it as well. Can't wait to see the rest of the items added, then it'll be even more useful.

Hmm, one problem that could affect something is that the graph continues even if you haven't looked up the price for that day, so you could be flat lining for a while just because you didn't search the price that day. You should make it only add a date in the graph if it gets an uploaded price.

Hm, one thing i'm noticing is that it bases the up/down arrow on the highest/lowest price and the current price. I think instead of how it is now, it should say the amount the item is worth (but without any arrow next to it) and then in another column have the symbol, showing how much it went up or down from the last time the price was updated. In other words, instead of

Item Name - Symbol Based On Entire History/Current Price - Last Updated

something like

Item Name - Current Price - Symbol Based on previous update and most recent update/Amount of gp up or down from between last two checks - Last Updated

Each "-" representing a seperate column, and the "/" representing that they're in the same column, but i put it to make it clear that they're separate things.

Because from what i can tell, if the item's first price was to be, say 100 gp, and then the next day dropped to 50, the arrow would be red. (Which makes sense) but then the next day, say it raised to 70. The arrow would remain red, even though it went up, because it's comparing it to it's highest ever price (I think?) What i'm getting at is i think it'd be better if the arrow represented it's most recent change.

Looking extremely forward to members items being added.. :) Also, could i ask what the premium button is for? And i'm still trying to decide whether or not i like the way the graph pops up now xD
