13 December 2007 - A Word About Our Updates

Even though this week has been one of the toughest ever for everyone involved with RuneScape, it has been tough for so much longer than one week. Bots, gold sellers, scammers: these are all problems that both us and you - the players - have had to put up with together in recent months.

These occurrences were becoming so frequent that they seriously threatened RuneScape. A solution was needed as soon as possible, so we had to come up with the one thing that would successfully stop real-world traders – stopping unbalanced trade. It will be tough for law-abiding players, but it will also be tough for us, as we will certainly not be gaining money or members with this update. Instead, we are doing this for the good of the game, which is as dear to our hearts as it is to you.

Soon, the hard part will be over and done with. The last of our major changes will be made in January and we certainly don’t plan any more hard changes in the foreseeable future. Together, we will deliver an enormous blow to real-world trading, and the game has already seen a dramatic reduction in their numbers.

We have always planned to release the real-world trading updates and then improve them further by listening to your feedback. We were also aware that the updates may not have been perfect the first time around, or that they may not have functioned as an ideal replacement for what we have changed or taken away. This is not a reason to roll them back or remove them, but it IS a reason to keep improving them until they DO work as a full replacement.

The hard choices we have made are the best ones for the game, and we must not do anything that allow bots, gold sellers or scammers back into the game. What we need to do is build on these first, large steps and use your feedback to make improvements, so that they better fit your needs and activities.

We would really like you to make your feelings known, not in a negative manner that offers no potential solutions, but with constructive criticism and suggestions that we can draw ideas from. For example, if something is broken, don't just demand that we put it back to what it was - instead, tell us your ideas to make the new system work. In summary: we would like you to think about how we can make life in RuneScape more enjoyable for you, while ALSO keeping out real-world traders and bots.

It’s going to take a lot of patience and effort from all of us. Saying that, we have not been sitting around hoping for you all to come up with ideas. We have been putting together a plan. This is a schedule of ideas for improvements that will build on a number of our changes: the Grand Exchange, new player-killing games (including other dangerous ones), LootShare, Assist System, trades and so many other things that we have introduced to combat real-world trading. We aim to have the most important improvements ready in time for the unbalanced trade removal in January, and to continue adding more throughout the start of next year.

We are currently assembling the best ideas from the Forums and our own staff. We will release another newspost early next week, listing the improvements we plan to make to address your concerns.

So, good or bad for us?

i dont think it will bother me much as long as they fix the bounty hunter thing to make it more like pking was…

for example…have it based on combat and have one cave as the equivilant of lvl 5 wildy…

one cave as the equivilant of lvl 15-20

and the high level cave as the equivilant fo lvl 40 wildy…

have some non multi combat areas in the caves and some actual STUFF not just open grey plains….

Hopefully they will tweak it so its not just pile rape from ppl 30 levels above you

They need to make the bounty hunter area more like the wild. If they made it stretch farther north i would love it. so that it went like how the real wild was. From lvl 1 all the way up to 50 something for members and 40 something for non-members. This might appease more people. And have it so you can not tele out unless you are lvl 20 and below. For Andrews sake before we start lynching bring back teleblock.

Whats the point when you cant tele in the wild anymore lol

i think its better so you dont get screwed outa your kills…no tele = more kills =)

Well if they changed the wild to how i offered up it could look like then yes teleblock would be nice to have back.

Posted this on forums

I have a idea that might just make people more happy. So if we were to extend the bounty hunter area farther north and south. From lvl 1 wild all the way to the top of it. Have two entrances one at the top and one at the bottom. Have like 3 or 4 of the teleport things from the wild placed in there. But keep it about the same width. But just extend it from lvl 1 to the highest lvl of the wild. This would make the system a little fairer on the lower combat lvls. Most everyone liked the old wild and this should make people happy since it will bring back pking. And people could tele out from lvl 20 and below in the area. But please bring back teleport, since this wouldn't require teleing to people. But you can keep the same rules that you have created for the bounty hunter. This would also make it difficult for RWTs to transfer gold to accounts since people would find others more easily since they are in a more confined space.

seems that all the players complaining in rs forums and canceling membships had affect to jagex cos they had to make that post

hopefully those updates they post early next week will be good..

Do you still have to be a member to post on the forums?

I wouldn't like to post on my main - but something inside me is almost forcing me to go and post

"Dear players of ScuneRape, the following sentence was total bullshit,
I can come whenever to, and wherever to I want macroing, I don't need to be level 3 bald guy with default clothes to do that."

and would maybe advertise my script a bit…

FFS! BULLCRAP!!! The best idea of the forums was to turn the wildy back and leave the trade alone! >: (

People canceling their member subscription had to get a response from Jagex eventually.

Hopefully people won't listen to their 'sweeten up' stories, they haven't changed anything about their terrible update yet.

Money talks.

Now, this will certainly kill Runescape. Now that everyone knows they're not changing back, things will only get worse! But…

I do see some improvements that may help which include…
- Better staff at Jag-x
- Keep wilderness as was.
- Disallow trades, Duels, and Pking from level 3's-20.
- Remove all recent updates.

All this was posted in my other thread.

Bounty Hunter could be kind of fun, but it needs major fixes.

1) The level ranges must be MUCH narrower. When I used to PK I would rarely fight someone 5 levels above me. 30 is ridiculous. They already have specific servers set up for Bounty Hunter. They should just narrow it down a bit. They have a high, medium, low spot on each world, so they could make one server 3-13, 14-23, and 24-35. Next 36-45,46-55,56-65. With 4 servers for free and members they could cover the entire range. If they want one free-for-all server like the current one, they could do that, too.

2) Once you enter the pit, you stay there until you either kill a bounty, or you die.

3) You can only loot your bounty or your bounty hunter. If you kill anyone else, you get nothing, and the person doesn't lose their items.

4) SINGLE COMBAT AREA!! This multi-combat gang raping is retarded. Make it so that hunters and bounties take precedence, and can interrupt any other fight that's going on. If someone's attacking your bounty, you can attack them instead, and the pjer has to go get a life.

5) Anytime you attack someone that's not either your bounty or your bounty hunter, you get a 3 minute time penalty and can't leave, even if you've already killed a bounty. This time penalty should count down over a players' head for everyone to see!

6) If you kill someone, you automatically get assigned their bounty (even though you can just leave instead of continuing). If your bounty manages to leave the game by killing their bounty or hunter, you get assigned any bounty they may have had when they left.

That might actually be fun, and it wouldn't take much tweaking from what they currently have in place.

You should post this idea on RS forums…i would actually do this if it was put through…

It would kinda be for noobs to identify which server tho…they should just have it like wildy inside the arena only have the whole thing be like lvl 5 wildy or something.

tarajunky

2007-12-13 18:07:49

No members account, or I would post it. If anyone wants to post it feel free.

I guess they could leave the low/med/high caves with a lvl 5 wild restriction on it. It would have to auto-select someone near your own level, but that should be possible. Good thinking.

Sucks they won't change back the updates now… if you die how long it take till you collect items?

Wait 'till the Legits feel the sting of the items missing.

Well, that is hoping that some people (most) have quit because it has no use now.

They aren't going to make any drastic changes. Plus it wont be for a while till they do this. Probably not worth the wait.

Best ideas for bounty hunting.

1) You can't attack anyone but your target and the person who has your target.

Right now, if you go in you get butt raped. Make it so that only 2 people in that entire place can attack and you and get rid of the problem completely. This will give you more kills and maybe a reason for pures to actually come back.
