Runescape -> Government

Skepsis

Now, I feel like Jagex and Runescape have gone too far. They try to cut down on RL trading, autoing, and they are updating and patching runescape to do it. The new shop updates and the GE updates almost turned runescape upside down.

This is how I feel but..
It seems like Jagex is too deeply rooted into reducing rule breaking. Seems like they forgot to make the game fun. I'm not sure if any of you think this, but it seems like runescape is becoming more like a government now. They can alter prices easiely with the new GE. For those of you who have taken Economy classes, this would be like the government controlling the market. Runescape probably won't be a free market anymore. It also totally destoryed merchanting.

New Edit 12/10/07

New. Update. SUCKS. For those of you who dissagree with me about Jagex acting as a government. I'm pretty sure you agree with me now. Controling drops, Controlling trades.
worst of all.
PKING IS RUINED.

They are ruining 95% of the game to stop the 5% that Real World Trades.

This is only how I feel. Discuss?

I think the same. Even though its their game, they need to change what that crack down on. No autoing = Prices SKYROCKET.

Skepsis

2007-11-28 19:54:45

Yes I realized that too. Probably half of runescape is supported by autoing. The wc, fishing, mining, pures. Many of them use autoing to do what it does best. I'm not sure if you have, but have you noticed the drastic price changes after the shop update?

I agree, to most of it. If they were smart they would have left the prices in the shops alone instead of changing them to what the GE prices are. They should have tried to use zybez's market prices instead of allowing us to physically change them.

LOL i feel the same way! i hate it when they do that crap even tho the stor update is kinda nice!

I agree. They could easily fix this by eliminating the price +/-5% thing. If they would do that, the market would stabalize again, and merchanting would be loads better.

They claim to have put the 5% thing in b/c of price manipulation. If that's true, it's pointless. There always has been and probably always will be some people trying to trick others into paying more/less. And ruining the rs market just to stop price manipulation….pathetic.

Ya, I think U r right but scripting will always find a way out of a problem.

Here

2007-11-28 20:31:45

Scripting? You mean, if we got somebody inside Jagex? And did some server level scripting? Explain.

Runescapian321

2007-11-28 20:34:42

I think he means Scar scripting. Like he thinks that autoing will help us overcome this :D lol

Yes I agree, the Dual arean update was lookin 90%. Until I found the 3k cap. That turned it 90% bad. The reason I think DA was updated was to stop buying/selling pure acounts because they know we stake with them. GE was also 90% good but with the price control it just turned it to 90% bad.

2007-11-28 20:46:38

yea, but in a way it makes it a lot easyer for us to sell our goods that come from autoing like those extra oak and willow logs

R0b0t1

2007-11-28 21:01:59

The prices have dropped for some things ( or I just haven't checked ) a fair bit.

I do think that the price control is ridiculous, as you can still manipulate the prices. Actually, I think that making the price be within a range causes more manipulation. Like, if we all got to geather, we could possibly hold yews at 5k ea.

Skepsis

2007-11-28 21:30:17

yeah i agree with you robot. with the new shop update and cooperation people can move prices just below the shop price. THis changes prices dramaticly.

ROBOT. PS. I LOVE your Icon thing

The Grand Exchange is horrible for regular sellers and great for autoing sellers (and also great for buyers on both ends). If someone autos to get all of their goods then they normally sell them for the minimum price and then go back to work, mainly because it is easy for them to get more. Regular sellers have to work hard to get their goods and want the highest price possible to get more $/hour.

I used to sell whatever I autoed for ~15% under the regular price and could sell 30,000 bow strings for 150 gp each in under 20 minutes. Now, I can sell bow strings for a higher price (I guess close to the same) in the same or less time. I'm happy and that's all that matters.

2007-11-28 22:41:41

honestly, by autoing i feel like i am doing my job to keep runescape running
wealthy players need raw mats to level, noob players need raw mats to level
who is there to deliver?!
THE AUTOERS!!!
we make runescape's happy little world go 'round!

there's my two cents

2007-11-28 22:50:27

im pissed off about the grand exchange

I used to be an wicked good mechanter that could turn 500k into 5m in like an hour

The only reason i started autoing is because I was scamed like 3 or four times, and then hacked, coming up to a total of 28m. Darn Jagex has to destroy the possibility of me ever getting that rich again :(

Skepsis

2007-11-28 23:39:43

Yeah i know. Town has a good point though. It is easier for us autoers to sell stuff. But I think it is still unfair for runescape and Jagex to start controlling the market. They are going way too extreme just to stop cheating. The old ways were a lot better. Might be a little harder to sell off our materials, but hey, free market.

Randoms are really gay, not that I don't like the SCAR's challenge to solve them, but its stupid if you're playing legit and a GayvilChicken kills you when you're watching the msn window…

Skepsis

2007-11-29 22:04:18

Haha. Seems like, in a sense, autoing is more safe because it watches out for those randoms. Cuase the point of autoing is so you can do something else.

Here

2007-11-29 22:09:33

Actually, it should be, "In Soviet Jagex, scune rapes YOU!" But those things are idiotic.

Also, how many of you actually play legit? It's kinda stupid complaining about how they're changing rules to ban you on a "cheating" forum. (Ok, we can get into all sorts of stupid discussions about how it's not really cheating, but no.)

Infantry001

2007-11-29 22:15:37

I think a lot of people here play legit occasionally. But I think many people here worry that their autoed goods are going to get pwnd and decrease in value by %500… lol

R0b0t1

2007-11-29 22:17:55

Hmmm…. 5gp feather * 500% = 25gp.

300,000gp Dragon halberd * 500% = 1,500,000

And thats not if you add the current price to it XD!

oliverleowner

2007-11-29 22:36:55

I use to play legit, but gave up. Just became too time consuming and repedative. Thus, I entered the world of autoing.

Runescape are probely trying to make the game more 'Exciting' but i think they've just figured out that they've made it a little bit worse. I think for the grand exchange that it would be pretty hard for them to get rid of it..

I say that they were just trying to copy the auction house from WOW, and failed.

When you look at it that way, it makes you want to quit RuneScape. But you have to think positive. I'll edit this post later when I have more time to think.

*Sigh* If they're retarded, then why do you play (or auto, same thing) on a game they created? Read the front page of THIS FORUM.

You have to respect Jagex. It's a golden rule!

randomdude

2007-12-02 18:21:51

they are not necessarily controlling the economy
i mean they regulate the rules like any other democracy
but its a totally optional system
now if jagex regulated the entire income of each player
now that would be just socialist

Skepsis

2007-12-02 18:48:01

To sum it up. Basicly the exchange prices are. at the least RETARDED. Totally off the norm. some prices are nice because they allow non members to buy things fast. like lobs at 200 ea. but others are totally rediculous. they are pricing much of the prices based on high alch prices and not the actual market price.

I don't like the uppdate the last 4 mounth but well well it's just to accept it or stop playing. But i wont stop play

Yep exchange prices are totally off.

The last two updates stunk.

Runescapian321

2007-12-03 21:13:50

The worst part is, it doesn't seem like they plan to do something about it… In the behind the scenes for December, they hardly mention it, much less say that they'll do something…

awesom

2007-12-03 21:18:25

TBH I couldn't give a shit if prices go up or down cuz I am very rich and always have and will be :P

The only update that really sucks dick is the 3k stake thing cuz I used to stake like 5m all the time :(

I'm wondering how long till they realize oops we fucked up, and try and fix stuff. That would get funny to watch.

Here

Usually they don't go back to try and fix stuff. Nobody likes to admit that they did something stupid.

I totally agree with you their attempt on stopping cheating has led them to forget about making the game fun, but i also think that without autoing runescape's economy would die… otherwise the money flow would simply stop because there arnt enough materials to go around, then prices would raise and no one would buy… Well thats what i think anyway could be wrong but oh well…:D

I just have a question:
What would more people commit suicide over?
1. Runescape being ruined.
2. Losing $50 in a Real World Trade.

Haha. Let's just have a prayer for the soon-to-be unemployed workers who were simply doing their job, until Andrew came and messed up their lives. Enron!?!?
