I don't think this will help autoing or the transfering of autoed goods much. The limit to what price you can sell/buy for makes it impossible to get money/goods from an autoer to your main. So for autoers, the only good thing I can think of is easier selling the autoed goods after you have them all in one place.
If you're a legit player, then theres tons of benefits. You don't have to meet players, it's almost impossible to get scammed, and you can buy/sell very quickly. If you play f2p, you love this b/c its as good as the forums and better. But, I've noticed (while trying this thing out) that it is almost impossible to sell things for the 'average' and 'maximum' prices that Jagex set. There is almost always somebody selling for the lowest, therefore there's no point for the buyers to offer more, just offer the lowest and you'll get it in a few minutes if not a few seconds…

I think this update is really annoying. I think prices are going to plummet.
The only way to buy that even makes sense is to pay or sell for the lowest possible amount.
If you want to buy 10k iron ore for 100 gp each, you have to put in 1 mil right then. Then the ore is deposited into your collection box. A lot of that ore was probably being sold for 95 each. I'm sure that Jagex isn't giving the seller that extra money, it just goes poof. It won't take long for people to realize this, and people will only offer the lowest price.
And as Jagex said, if sales are trending to the lower end, the range will shift that direction. It seems like an inevitable spiral down for prices on pretty much everything macro-able.

They've already realized it…. :( I've been selling some stuff from my bank, and out of about 10 things, I sold about 5 of them in just a few minutes at the lowest price which I was content with, but the other things remain unsold, as I don't like the lowest price. Maybe thsi will change as the Grand Exchange becomes a bit less popular, but that's unlikely.

Great exchange is
Great for buying. For selling it sucks, unless you got some strange goods (like zammy wines stuff that only a few people actually sell).

people keep saying that prices may plumit but i dont realy mind because today i have sold 4.5k p essens and 2k iron ore for still a good price.
It may not be the best but both had sold in 5 minits.
i estimate a 5-10% drop in prices for things like lobys essens bow strings and the rest.

Sell Sell Sell!!!
Sell all your goods today for the lowest possible price. Prices will drop dramatically! The only thing thats really worth something is rs-gp! I tested with 14k Steel bars. I set the price to middle (630 ea), and left it for 4 hours. No buyers! I set the price to lowest (608 ea) and *boom* sold! Same thing happened with 3k cut sapphires. Hyperiinflation is about to take place. Sell, sell, sell!
Not sure what will happen to santa's and other rares, but I am pretty confident they will drop too.

i think if all the prices are gonna drop… sell all you items… and then you will have rsgp… the rice of gold cant drop unless the items rise… in my opinion its gonna lead to a huge economy crash and rsgp to us dollar ratio will go throught the roof… so if you keep your rsgp youll be safe… i think this is what jagex intended to do to try and keep people from real world item trading… they are persuading people to buy tons of stuff and wait for the price to raise… but the prices will drop and everyone will lose money so what i would do is sell all your stuff now before it drops even more

I don't get the theory of the rs gp becoming more valuable. If there is a minimum price to buy/sell items and you CAN'T sell/buy for less than that minumum price then how exactly will the prices of items plummet? Can someone explain this to me.
Edit: everyone is buying and selling for the minimum price right now… so as long as jagex doesn't change the price ranges then won't all items throughout rs have a firm price?
[S]paz
2007-11-26 17:36:44
well they will… they will then change the current min price to become the default price.. and this would keep goin until either one of two things happen
1. the prices plummet soo bad that items become worthless (not likely to go that far but things should might will get bad)
2. hyper-hyper-hyper inflation causing the goods prices to go back up and up until its ridiculous and no one buys a thing causing the prices to comeback down
basically sell sell sell now y u can.. then later on when things become v v v v v v cheap buy more things at a low price and either wait till the recession is gone and the boom happens, recession is where everything is proper cheap and boom is the opposite, when in a boom sell all u have cos u wail make the most amount of net profit…

This update can be helpful for making some money because of the price limit and the amount of supply that is now offered. You can buy for 5% under the price and then sell for 5% over the median price. By buying massive amount of supplies, a pretty hefty profit can be made.

Wow, the prices are great for sellers right now - almost 200gp each for coal! I agree that the economy will be ruined soon, but won't it fix itself in a few weeks? Soon GE prices will be so low that almost everyone will go back to bank trading. The people who keep using the GE will sell at higher prices, which will eventually bring prices back up to normal. This cycle might happen a couple times, but eventually everything will be fine. And besides the prices, I love the GE. If you sell for the lowest price, you can sell or buy most things instantly. Already sold all of my armor, and I'm ready to buy it back when the prices hit bottom.

When I first saw the update I checked feathers, I put up 50 for 4gp and the sold instantly. But last time I logged in I saw some guy yelling that he had 100k up for sale. So now there are probably millions of feathers for sale, all for min price. It's a disaster. You'll have to keep them on for months to sell them, and you only have a few spots to sell with anyways!
This is the best thing to happen to buying, but selling is impossible…

Can you add more yews to a sale or do you have to end it each time to add more.
When someone buys 100 yews, and there are 1000 for sale, do you think it gives them the first 100 that were posted? If that's the case then reposting them each time might be bad.

(the microwave sound 'd be cool :D )
First I thought they're copying WoW's AH, but in reality this thing is just gay and annoying.. Now everything will go down because nobody wants to buy anything for more than the lowest possible "street price".. Which should make the street price go down too, as stuff sells for 5% less.. I'm sure this has been stated many times before too, though :P
*sigh* Sometimes I just have to hate jagex for this kinda stuff.

F**KING FAGGEX! OMG -.-
They just ruined the idea of macroing iron.. or maybe when the prices go to 50gp/iron, i should buy like 20k of it, and then wait for the prices to go up(cos it's damn sure that it's gonna be fixed) and sell it for lots of geepee :D:D..

in the update info it said the store prices dropped along with the average prices at the grand exchange… so… eventually the price will go really low… so that mind runes are like 1 gp each… you spend all your money on them… and have tons since they have the buy x amount at the shop and when the prices stablize… mind runes will be like 15 each and you made a 1400% increase in your money… turning an ammount of money like 3mil into 45mil
and btw they dropped 3 gp in price yesterday

I have found that the general store prices have skyrocketed, and the sell price to be extremely different than the buyback price. The general store buys many items for a low price and than proceeds to sell these items at a ridiculously high amount, several times the normal price before the update.

I added a suggestion on the RS forums:
I think it explains itself
THAT is a good suggestion. Right now I feel like I HAVE to use one of those three preset prices, the average, low, and high buttons. Because that is what everyone else will use. I feel like it is pointless to type in a nice even number like 5000 when there is probably no one else who is going to do that.

Logged in the next day and popped 97k iron up for minimum price and it sold the second the post was confirmed.
The price range on iron ore has already dropped a day after the patch. I don't know about other items, but I agree that prices are going to plummet unless Jagex decides to ignore the economy trend at some point and force prices to stay at a certain level :(

I'm starting to think about it and I think this will be a great oppertunity to merchant.
I mean once the prices drop jagex is going to get a ton of complaints and it will be fixed somehow….probobly.
This is a little like the stock market now when the prices hit bottom buy as many coal, lobbies, sharks, iron, all those highley merchanted items.
Then when the prices start rising because of jagex the more money you spend the more you make, which makes a great oppertunity to merchant

2 people could possible drop the price of any rare (or any item) if they worked together over MSN (or any other IM client), here is an example:
person1: "Hey, ill put a santa on the exchange for 18432837, and then you buy it for 18432837!!"
person2: "Wow, we can do that all day and drop the price because no one would ever guess to buy it at 18432837"
person1 and 2 continue this until the santa's price drops to 5M…
No.
You should read the knowledge base.
If you buy a item, you have to wait a certain time before you can sell it again.
Plus, the system doesn't work like that.
It someone offers higher than 18432837, he will buy it anyway.

I think Jagex should remove the +/- 5% thing altogether. Lets see what it does…
Positives (for Jagex)
1) Stops Price Manipulation (They've never really seen it as a problem)
2) Stops trading between accounts (somewhat, but people do it anyway…)
Negatives
1) RS Market is failing
2) Many players are annoyed
3) Many players will quit (first the Duel Arena and now this…)
I think the Negatives outweigh the Positives. Price manipulation isn't a big deal, and people know other ways to trade between accounts.

If you are selling the millions of rsgp like me its not looking so bright.
If you are just using it for playing ruescape nothing is really going to change because with the value of your macroed goods going down also is the items you are looking to buy so soon it will even out for you.

BUT saying that obviously with the exchange now our wares for sale are open to a huge audience. It's a bit catch 22…because yes u can probably sell quicker and if u cn't sell quick u dn't have to worry u just leave it till someone wants it…but at the same time certain things are suffering in terms of the sale price! like i normally sold coal for 250gp ea now i get like 150-175 or summin. so i've moved onto mith!

I haven't really run into any problems with the grand exchange.
And the reason the GE wasn't set up so you can choose who you can to buy from and set a price limit is because people would use it as a way to transfer crap loads of money.
example-
Player A is giving Player B 100Mil.
Player B (in the grand exchange) sells a feather for 100Mil.
Player A then buys this feather (since I doubt anyone would buy a feather for 100Mil), thus finishing the transaction.
Player A has given player B 100Mil and a new way of buying/selling/trading gold is created.

Not only does this make the low price of something constant but it almost sells instantly so im all for the grand exchange but it does make honast marketing harder… since typically people try to buy for the least ammount unless they are trying to get it fast…

I think the system is OK, the biggest problem is you don't know current availability or prices. You could set your price to 5 gp and someone sells for 4 and you will never buy it, If they really wanted the system to be good, they would use your set price as a maximum price and then buy the lowest price available, if two people want the same thing, make them bid against each other and whoever has the biggest max price wins.
With that in place, it would be great if they allowed more player control over the prices and maybe even a current price range next to the item (IE selling from 1gc to 2000gc)
As it stands, if your Item is semi rare (IE not not traded a lot but not worth much) it is very hard to find it. at the right price, you just try and buy wizard robes :(

Actually it does give the seller the extra money… I put in a Guth Cloak just now for 600k and got 611k for it which is the current market price.
EDIT: I also just noticed you don't need a PIN to get into the exchange window or the Collection box. I know alot of people (including me) that when they log out they put everything in the bank because they have a PIN and if it is in the bank it is "safe(r)". If you have something in the GE that takes a while to sell/buy or if you put something up to sell/buy when you went to bed and someone hacked you, they could abort the transaction (or if it is already sold/bought) and go to the collection box and take your goods or money.
I think jagex need to add a bank PIN to the collection box of the GE.
My Pin saved me from losing about 20m about a week ago (forgot to take info out of a script I posted). All they got was 50k feathers that I didn't have in my bank. (I managed to auto that back + more in about 2 days).

its ok kind of messe up economy a lil though. A lot of things are in less demands, most stuff got cheaper for ex.: Full rune 160k-175 before now 140k-160k : ( And runes, ores, herbs etc. all gone down in price
The Grand Exchange was a let down for me.. Just purely because you can't see what players have put up for sale, and you can't sell prices at the price you want.
It also means Jagex can easily change the market price of items, which is worrying =P

I always hated standing around for ages competing with 50 other spammers to try and sell something so i like this :) And another useful thing is if you buy anything by mistake, you can go sell it for the same price, instead of paying 100k to the shop and selling it back to them for 100gp :o (So pretty much you can "borrow" things)
Whats strange though is that people buy junk..? Who would want to buy ashes, or cooked shrimp…?

The thing that drives the economy is the federal reserve correct?
In runescape the federal reserve is really all the people that sit around and buy natures and stuff to high-alchemy and generate loads of new currency for the players to use, atleast the main stream. Any problems with the grand exchange can be solved simply by Jagex changing the alchemy profits (in theory).

I like the grand exchange…. i use it to merch on.. for example i buy scarfs for lowest and sell for highest or at least 50k higher than i bought it for.. goes pretty easy… made like 4m in just 2 days by merching scarfs and obby capes( buy for 240k in w2 fally sell for 270k in exchange) also merched my cav mask bought for lowest 1,23m i think and sold for 1,3m… etc etc… so i like it…. BUT…. Dam prices has gone down, had 9k maple logs to sell took me so much time got it sold when lowest price was on 52 gp ea :S… i havent found out what's best to buy and sell there quite yet… but if you need anything cheap like ores then it's a good place….. and i also tried to sell steel bars there and i put the price to 600 ea… no buyers so i keep for myself………..

Well it has been a few days and I don't think it was as big as many expected. it really turned outto be annoying and it makes it difficult to sell anything for an average price. People are only buying for the cheapest therefore all you can do is sell for the cheapest. It is not entirely what i expected but whatever. I dunno if jagex will make any more changes to it but right now it kinda sux. Yes inflation is happening. No one at grandexchange is buying my 500 steel bars for 550 ea! There are only buyers for the steel bars for like 518. I do suggest to sell many of your items.

On a good note Raw sharks are climbing from 658 to 707. If the economy stabalizes I think we can make due with the GE, I don't like that you can't sell something really cheap, or for that matter really expensive if there are none in the exchange and it's an item people want. I also don't like you can't see a list of things people want to sell, or a list of things people want to buy. Overall, I like the old way of selling things, but like i said, maybe this will work.

EXACTLY! i dislike it more than i like it mean people like me that have cash ( i had to liquify everything when i got out of mem although im getting it back up soon) are benifited, but people like anyone who owns armour, wepons, rares, food… its a pain because your stuff becomes worth less.. its very convienient but say you just need 30k now but the exchange wont let you sell for a little less.. or the first time i went to sell with it i put up a rbx and tried to sell for 30k but it was like 200 gp too low… :duh:

Grand Exchange is good because of the convenience of being able to get ANY item for a reasonable price almost immediately.
I think they should have given us the ability to browse through people who are selling or buying. That way you don't have to guess at what the lowest price the item is currently being sold for on your world is.

This Grand exchange isn't bad. We have somthing in our world very similar called globalization. Globalization basically removes borders allowing really cheap prices. The communist countries that don't open borders to trade are the ones with super high prices. If you want to buy something this is good for you as long as it is a cheap commodity but if your trying to sell high you have to find that item in the "communist country".
What you need to do is be one heck of a powerful char who can go get things that usually ppl can't get. Zezima would have had a blast with this cus he was 99 in all things. He could go into the wild and find the blood rune spawns or kill that big fat ant for tons of $$.
The problem now is finding that one item that no one else can get and then getting it.
Look at the prices, Dragon axe is selling for over 3 mil still. Thats a fair $. Try using macros to get to high lvls and get those hard to find things. If along the way you get 30k ess and want to sell for some side cash go for it.
We are seeing in the real world, oil prices are rising and so will certain things in this Grand Exchange just wait and see what they are and be ready to find it.
That what I got to say.
I think the grand exchange is a good thing to have.
But the 3k trade limit is quite bad.
You can't even give things as a gift, more worth than 3000 coins.
The exchange makes it possible to do other things while selling, that's a good point but get rid of the 3k trade limit!

I don't think that the Runescape devs would allow for the prices to drop down to being "worthless." For while it does discourage autos and encourage "combat moneymaking/adventuring," it also reduces the value of the money-making skills.

Nope. It is one of theworst updates ever. Economy will be ruined. You will see :D
No, the economy won't be ruined. Parts of it will, true, but as a whole- no. A part that is already ruined is (obviously) Yew Longbows. Uhh, 700 each on the Exchange is a bit high, don't you think? :P
Natures are going back up to the 300's, Pure essence is coming back down because so many people are mining it now (hey, it used to be around 160 each. That's a good profit :P), so this is still a free-ish economy where supply and demand do still play a large part in pricing.

I totally disagree…
The grand exchange is an example of government intervention (jagex) intervening in the free-market economy of runescape by setting a 'market price'. I have noticed a pattern that leads me to believe that this is in fact a price ceiling below the traditional market price set by the laws of supply and demand. If anyone studies economics here, they would know that that would lead to shortcomings in supply and an blow-out in demand. However, this would only apply to armour sets. I'd wager that not as many people are willing to buy resources such as coal as their market prices increased by as much as 30 gp, which is alot in bulk purchases.
It is very hard, if not impossible to manage an economy like Runescape completely by setting the prices right. A slight disparity would upset the whole balance between supply and demand. This law of supply and demand is focused around the miners and cutters and producers selling at amounts and prices that reflect how badly the manufacturers (fletchers, smithers, etc.) want the materials.
Having said that, entrepreneurism is dead to an extent, with merchanters throwing everything away in the face of a solid price. The grand exchange itself bears no resemblance to stock exchanges in the real world, with limits set on the price fluctuations. As a result, if demand for a particular item falls, the price will not be indicative of this drop so less people will buy the item. The suppliers will notice that their items are not being sold, and will decrease their prices, unaware that the real market price is beneath that set by Jagex. Slowly, people will begin to realise that the sale of that item is unprofitable and will shy away from that particular skill if no revenue is being produced.
With the decline in demand and supply, and the lack of foreign investment and government injection of capital into the economy, recession will begin and unemployment will commence in earnest. As the economy falls to ruin, and the citizens begin to tire of the poor economic and social conditions, civil unrest will be on an upward hike. Eventually, if the problem is not solved, it will reach phenomenal levels and the tyrannous government will be overthrown, with a new one elected. Hence, the land will convert from a socialist, one-party state racked by totalitarianism to a democratic and free country that elects its own leaders and rules on its own freedoms and rules.
Or so the economic story goes…

I don't like the setup AT ALL. It should be set up where you can actually see each individuals offers, not put in a number and buy who has it at that prices… Hate it hate it hate it.
WoWs AH >>>>>> Grand Exchange
p.s.
Way to destroy the game economy, imo
Well…the way it is can be viewed positively you know? Such as if you offer max…and someone is selling for min… It may settle in middle, and both are happy. But i'll give you this, sometimes prices screw you over……like potions!

Its kind of like the world's stock markets and the system used to match buyers and sellers… They don't have to see each other's offers, they just set in the price they want to sell or buy for. Its completely anonymous.
I don't get what you mean by the potions >.>

The 3k trade limit has probably killed runescape. Friends and I used to swap whatever back and forth if we needed it. Now it's gay as hell. I don't see the point of placing the limit on the game. IMO it was a big fucking screw up on their part.

2008-01-19 14:38:13
The trade limit now changes depending on how many quest points your got, but it only goes up to 30k IIRC, which is still pretty useless if you want to lend a friend something. However, given that we, as cheaters, are partly responsible for jagex introducing it, in my opinion we don't really have much of a right to complain

I am pretty happy with the ge right now cause I made 1.2mil off it. It was total luck though. I bought gunthans for really low in the afternoon. Then the next day decided I didn't like it and sold for 1.2m more then bought it. :)

With the GE you can make money also, thanks to new players…
Just try it, as example with steel bars or something, buy 10k at lowest price, and whatever you get back, immediatly on the mid price -> sold.
The best it works with eyes of newt (yep, them again).
just set it to 10k eyes of newt at the lowest price, and wait, when you get them coming in, you can sell them at the same time for the highest and you're rolling :)

I believe the grand exchange makes it easier to buy and sell with ease, but I think the whole bartering system will be damaged severely. I do like how its made it easier to sell stuff quickly, but this, along with the introduction of the trade rules are going to cause the economy to become either severely stable and stagnent, or take a downward spiral due to the ever popular sell for the cheapest amount option.
Overall cool introduction, Im going to be happy to see what exactly becomes of the exchange and the economy of rs in general now.

I really dislike most of the new systems, I mean, the GE is great if youre a normal player with one account, but I have a few, including a mule that i'd make a friend trade all my stuff to for storage, and now that that 3k limit is instated….well, lets just say my d'hide is stuck on an account that cant even use it, as more for the GE, prices just keep dropping like mad! I tried selling some 10k ess, on the LOWEST, and it didnt sell, and after a few days…the lowest was 5gp lower than before. This means that all assests are also decreasing in price…darn it :(
P.S. I dont like to PK, but the new system kinda really sucks i think….

I think that it was good that they created GE, its very simple to buy and sell stuff now, thats a big plus imo. Yeah its a little like wow AH, but still a great update. I have nothing bad to say about GE tbh, or well it could be more simple like in wow ah, i mean so you can press "buyout" and so you can see example how many d longs there is in ge that would be good.

Personally i find it very useful, especially when im questing and i need to buy some of those miniscule items. Plus you dont have to travel from bank to bank or wait for someone to pm you to sell somethin.

I don't know which side to choose about the GE. As far as merchanting goes, it makes it easier for me, as I don't have to do any work. Just Buy 130m gp worth of something at lowest price, then turn around and sell it for a few gp higher. Profit. As far as armour goes, being a rune smither I'm pretty hacked about it. If you buy the bars for the GE price, you lose money no matter what you are making, because the ore/bar prices are too high, yet the armour prices are too low. That goes for any type of armour. Lastly, you can't make armour sets from notes, so if you want to sell alot of sets, thats alot of trips.

i think this really screwed up the economy of RS, within a few days of the update prices of just about everything dropped, either that or after a while itll the supply and demand will even out a lil, so i guess it could help after a while….

i kinda like the GE cuz with some luck u can score big but its just going to run prices into the ground:( and make rares worth WAY more… but it does make buy and selling alot easier… so i sill dont know what to think of it quite yet

wow this update killed trading for me. What happened to the good old days where clever salesmanship can earn the seller an incredibly disproportional buttload of gp?
Hopefully rares go up in value, I'm sitting on a santa and a blue mask that I picked up years ago off the ground at midnight and are near and dear to my heart

Is there a limit on how much of one item you can buy at a time now?
I've stopped autoing for a long time now [since wildy died] all i do is log in and buy a load of something and then sell it later when it goes up. But recently, for the past few weeks i only seem to buy 25k of a certain item at once. Even when i set the price at max and choose to buy a few hundred thousand of an item i only get 25k of it at most at a time. I'm not even trying to transfer goods, but i've been doing it for a few months and i think they think im transfering goods because the last few times i logged in i got random people messaging me asking me random things about the game. Testing if im a bot?
Person 1: Hi, i just started playing this game again in like 3 years. can you tell me what's changed?
Person 2: Hi, can you tell me where i find [item] please?
Person 3: Hi, how do i get to [area], can you take me there please?
Person 4: Hi.
And it goes on, also, i get massive amount of randoms even i'm only online for a very short amount of time every day [less then 5 mins]
Opening grand exchange.
Boom; Random blocks me from entering pin.
Update items.
Press log out button.
Boom; Random blocks me from exiting.
This is so annoying… not so much the random, i like free items. But the limit is really annoying because i can only make about 200k a day now.
