MSN Users - Heads Up

Not sure if already posted..
A disturbing news appeared few hours ago at eWeek: A new Trojan is introducing malware into thousands of computer systems worldwide, and the number is growing by the hour. The malware is being introduced by MSN Messenger files posing as pictures, mostly seeming to come from known acquaintances. The files are a new type of Trojan that has snared several thousand PCs for a bot network within hours of its launch earlier on Nov. 18 and is being used to discover virtual PCs as a means of increasing its growth vector.
The Trojan is an IRC bot that’s spreading through MSN Messenger by sending itself in a .zip file with two names. One of the names includes the word “pics” as a double extension executable—a name generally used by scanners and digital cameras: for example, DSC00432.jpg.exe. The Trojan is also contained in a .zip file with the name “images” as a .pif executable—for example, IMG34814.pif. The files are infiltrating new systems by using either known contacts from which the Trojan has harvested instant messaging names, as well as from the systems of unknown users. Doublecheck every file you receive through your MSN or your computer could easily end up as a zombie in some huge botnet…

I always scan packed files and I won't take .exes from my friends unless they tell me what's it.
Oh and PS. Please test my walker :( Haven't got tested so much.

I only take SCAR scripts and .bmp or .jgp, if strictly needed. I can usually do fine with watching the little picture in the chat.
Thanks for the warning.

Thanks, gotta watch out for this.
I think I know a guy that was trying to distribute this. I'm prety sure it was automated message sating stuff like "LOOK! I think I found an image of you on myspace" and " Do you think this picture would look good on myspace" and it asks to accept a zip file named "Photo" but I always declined.

trojans suck but if ur stupid enough to downloa or accept em u deserve to get ahcked
well for this to affect you, you need to be retarded enough to accept every zip file people send you
i never accept them unless we planned on sending things that way
if you stupid and get messages from people like
omg do i look good in my new myspace pic
(sends zip file)
and then u accept, u deserve to get the virus
because most people dont no how to use zip files
and no1 puts one picture into a zip file anyways -_-
thought i would rant a little..

Well thanks for the heads up but many should know never to accept files from someone who isn't that trusted or of course random people.

In the virus/hacking community its considered a art. Not unlike the scar community we also create "cheating" ways to play a game. So to many people they would consider it almost the same thing. Biggest difference is one is more potentially harmful then the other.

in the SRL community its an art to create scripts for runscape and we find it challenging and fun. its the same way for these trojan makers. they do it for the challenge or have too much time on their hands :P

Ouch, that's a burn against me…
I made a powerful backdoor a long time ago with one of my friends, and I am afraid to release it here
1) Too many people have access to it
2) It could easily get out of control
So I'm going to wait until I become an SRL Member (if I do) so I can only release it to Members, because all (or most, at least) the members are pretty trustworthy, and they probably wouldn't do anything mischievous with it.
On the other hand, though, phishing is the most retarded thing you can do. Completely agreed.

when u say backdoor u mean a RAT?? cos if so its better A) deleted (i know ur hard work…) or B) not released and kept private… cos it could do damage to the internet noobs with no AV or firewalls….

To get it on someone's computer, you have to get the person to run the program. You can also bundle it with another program, like a game. So when they play the game, it gets installed. I'm not much of a hacker, so I don't know how to exploit anything in windows, just how to have fun :p
And the AV and firewalls (unless it notifies you of outgoing connections) wouldn't do anything anyways. Most of them are signature-based, so a virus has to become popular enough before they add a definition to detect it.
Also, I forget what a RAT is.
It doesn't really matter if it goes out of control. If it does, it will become popular, and in that case, detected by antivirus programs. When that happens, people are left with a virus that's detected, and I can just edit it and take out the detected parts. In that case I won't make the same mistake twice, and keep it to myself.
