ok guys i went to check my email just know looked in junk bin and supposdly jagex wants me to become p-mod i will post pic once its uploaded im so confused two messages one subject is become runescape player moderator and other is Fake

tell me if this is fake or real that there contacting me because if it is i can do some serious muting and some other good stuff

And what do they 'need' from you? :P Jagex doesn't contact you through Email.

Would you show us what the message says? Don't open any of the attachments if it has any. But in general, disregard it as a scam.


If I'm right, the only way he would be able to send that email is through DOS or the Jagex has a "co.uk" domain.

weird, i think i heard of a way to make email from a different adress… can u post pics of what the messages say?

i havent opened affraid it has an attachment 1 is one kb and other is 10kb should i open????

No don't open the attachment, probably a keylogger. I don't have much experience in other programming languages but I know it is easy to send fake emails through PHP.

its a fake email everyone, lol dont open it, i got it also, then he emailed me back like 5 minutes later and said, im a fucking loser with no life, the file is a virus dont open it…lol

I got an email from "them" like a year ago, it was a special christmas event for some specially selected players. I didn't trust it so just incase I used one of my autoers…

It was a scam.

i dont think you can get him caught. Open up the email and read it for entertainment purposes. Just dont open the attachments.

this was on another website said to be from the runescape forums themselves DONT OPEN THE ATTACHMENTS!!!

if they detected a keylogger does that mean we all need to scan our computers?

Ok, assuming a staff member didn't do it (why would an adult try to steal accounts on a stupid game?) does that imply that someone actually hacked into RS and rigged it?

Trust me .. it's a scam. They send you an inviation in your Jagex inbox to become a Player Moderator :) You get no email notification whatsoever.

They usually lead to a scam website that looks identical to the Runescape website. I just take the source html, then I make a simple php file that spams each field like 200 times each time the file is loaded. I usually load it with profanity too :p

I don't think you understand what I was doing. I wasn't replying to the email with spam, and I know how to send fake emails from any domain, I've done it before (well, I gave up on it when msn started blocking them..)

But in the phishing emails, you would click on a link to a fake runescape website, it would ask you to enter your username and password. I went into the HTML source, found the form and the page it submits to, and made a php script that automatically fills up the username and password fields numerous times, so when the phishers went to look at logs (hopefully they kept logs, otherwise it would be kind of pointless) It would be full of crap :D.

As for the illegal part, it would be at most a minor offence, for mischief. Therefore, they would not charge me, first of all, since they could not find me (it's only a php script doing everything), and they would be too afraid of being caught themselves, as what they are doing is phishing. Phishing is a very serious offence, as it's tricking you into giving your personal information, and can end you up in jail.

I guess this group of people stopped, as I never got an email again from fake jagex.:garfield:

I read somewhere before that the way to make it look liek its a jagex email is because thats what they put as their name. Meaning instead of saying their actualy name they jsut put that email. So if you look around you should find the real email adress it was sent from.
