Anyone want to release SMART?

I've become rather busy as of late, and haven't had much time to do anything computer related at all. So, if someone wants to release SMART for me, be my guest. Its about time no? :) I don't imagine I'll be very active at all for a while. Maybe during/after Christmas… Been having a rather unpleasant life for the past month or so, but I am 17 now, so its not all bad :redface:

Ill do it. How about a christmas present to SRL(unless you mean to release right now, in which case I will do that too)?

No offence, but I think it was be better if someone with Admin/Mod privileges did the honors. Would make it a lot easier in regards. Oh, and post the release info here so we can all input our say before it's actually released. Pwnaz0r, compile something up if you wish. Then post it here so we can all agree on it.

Lol this is ironic. Last night I made an easy update pack for Smart for when you were going to release it. Posted here. Fakawi didn't like it though, but I don't think he realized it was for when you were going to release it

Would it be a good idea to clean up the threads here (so SSRL members aren't made public) and make the whole Smart subforum viewable, or just create a new small one in FAQ for just SMART questions (like I did with VM/Computer and Subversion questions).

~RAM

EDIT: [offtopic thought] is there a simple way to add into smart.scar a stat variable for SMART time used…even if we need to creat a default account for this (Sorry Wizzy:redface:)to be used with SRL stats…just courious ;) [/offtopic thought]

Release from the SRL Account? :)

/me doesnt like this whole idea… at all.. but it looks like its too late to stop…

/me braces himself.

(and yes, if it must be done, it should be done by either benland, fawki, or the srl account)

Meh, Greg, I stopped trying long ago…IMHO not wise, but hey, seems like we're the minority here.

I guess it can be kept off most of the major cheating sites, but the little ones could be a problem…

RAM

I was against this for awhile, but I say, meh..Spread the love.I've been thinking,.if anything, it will promote more people learning to script, as the majority of people using SCAR, only have 1 computer and not enough resources for a VM, so maybe, by this freeing up their computer, they will have extra time….er, at least I try and tell myself this to sleep good at night ;)

I still think we need to make a 'Kill button' to retain some control over it.

Smartzkid

2007-11-13 22:06:47

Ditto.

I'd also like to see it released in pieces (first silent mouse, then …etc.), but that's not gonna happen 'cause Ben doesn't want to show anyone else his code :p

Hobbit

2007-11-13 22:08:50

But I think we went the right way with just releasing to SRL Members to start (we're still doing that right?) but we still should have a kill all button. Cause some members may leak or try to sell it.

About S.M.A.R.T.: Yes we will release it for you, if that is what you wish. Probably this weekend if that is suitable for you.

IMHO, but we went through all this before, I think you should kill the framerate slider for the public release. This will limit the number of simultaneous S.M.A.R.T.'s. Here @ work ( 3.2 GHz dual Xeon machine, 8 meg cache, 8 Gig RAM) I can run 12 S.M.A.R.T.'s on one machine no problem, provided I cut down on framerate. With full framerate, I hardly manage to run 3 on that same machine. Removing the framerate will act as a natural filter against abuse, whilst S.M.A.R.T. will still be recieved as a major step forwards. Nobody needs to know anything about the framerate slider, and you still get it as extra SSRL-bonus.

The issue of S.M.A.R.T. linked to SRL needs to be tackled by Dankness, since he is the owner of the SRL-forums. I have no problems releasing it here, but Jagex may. Will talk to Dankness about that.

If we want to encapsulate S.M.A.R.T. into SRL, we will need to make a Global USESMART, that patches colorfinding and keypresses.

I know some of you guys have been working on a release and have written some text. Mind to url or paste it here, so I can compile it? (with reference, off course…)

I will release it through the generic SRL account.

EDIT: We could even release it with rev #7 if nobody objects.

wow fakawi autos at work :p

about that kill system, you probably already know this, but if you make it http to a website, people can check if anything is leaving through port 80.
and if you kill SMART, people could use a packet editor to change the responce to something which smart will run,
on the other hand, people would need to be quite cunning to do it, and i dont know what happens when you do it with https (secure sockets)
a kill system would still be useful, it would stop the vast majority of people, not many people would think to try WPE (especially since most virus scanners think its harmful :P )

im all for releasing SMART, not sure about allowing the frame rate scroll bar, i guess ill think about that some more

btw Ben, you're 29 days older than me :p

If it just sent username and password to a php page that would return the user's privileges, there's nothing Jagex could do about it; it'd just be a service to easily authenticate someone.

(in smart.scar}
{$def smart}
...
(in other srl files)
{$ifdef smart}
SmartDoSomething;
{$else}
DoSomething;
{$endif}

Something along those lines.

That way, it'd only compile the smart-only stuff when smart.scar is included.

Its true it wouldn't be to hard to remove it, so really the question is where should I lock it at? I'm guessing somewhere around 75% ? I'm not really sure where the autoing sweet spot is, seeings as I don't auto :p

As far as a 'kill switch' goes, if someone will set up a server somewhere with some php magic, I'll add in whatever authentication you all deem (un)necessary. :) I'm thinking that if it fails to authenticate, it should run fine except for the image sent to scar, that way no one will be able to tell its not working except that it will behave strangely. Or, perhaps send some weirdly mutilated image to Scar, or eat up resources… But if you really want authentication and security, all but the startup code could be encrypted for each person, and they will have to send their user name and password to get the decryption key… and the key could be xor'ed with the date/time, and un-xor'ed on the client end so that it will appear random to anyone trying to crack it… but that's a bit over the top :)

Are we still releasing this to just SRL Members or the whole community?
I think if we're still doing just SRL members maybe a updated/toned down version of my SMART Pack rather then and SVN so that only Members can d/l. Because thats what the whole intention of the Pack was because I had the impression we were only releasing to SRL members to begin with.

Releasing this to members is the same as realasing this to the whole comuinity.

This comunity is made of hackers, and most of them arent very.. moral. Word will get out almost imidiatly, and it wont be hard to buy some members lunch to get a copy, or just be nice to them. It will most defanitly get leached. There are just to many members, and we dont realy do a "virtue" background check on them.

Also, Bnland, i wouldnt do 75%… i would do FULL 100%.

so when shall it be released…
hopefully not this weekend…

tomorrow or Friday maybe :p

Good to hear you are alright! :)
There is no need for an authentication. It can only cause problems.
Plus, it will first be released to SRL Members only. At least, that was my idea.
Framerate bar. I'd say 60%.

I hope you realised that SRL members section is one big leak, it'll only slow down the spreading of it a bit, if it's released without authentication, the whole internet will have it in notime, especially something like SMART with a high demand.

Well KYAB was released to SRL members at first, they did a fairly good job at keeping it quiet, except some people slipped and leaked the knowledge of it but I don't think the program itself was ever leaked.

And it had encryption w/ auth…

Solar said there were ~200? leaks prevented by the auth system.

Yea… KYAB never had an auth system… He just kept track of the IPs that were using it because KYAB needed the current client variable names for each time it ran, and got them from his server…

Markus

2007-11-15 15:54:41

Remember that SMART is way more wanted then KYAB. KYAB is just perfect walking, SMART is perfect minimizing.

Changing the encryption throughout the lifetime of an application isn't considered a form of authentication?

I still see everyone is missing the big picture….

why don't we make scar private now… i mean its abused…

just because of smart you may have a few people actully use scar now…

nothings going to change…. just that peeps will be able to minimize there stuff… and at that they would have a laggy computer (most of them).

I can see your point that there may be an influx of people… from like diffrent communities and stuff… but smart is a good idea :p and it should be shared publicly :p

You are making my post totally redundant. ;)

There are 141 SRL Members to prune/demember, first.

If Benland has no objections, Fakawi and I intent to release it this weekend, to SRL-Members only.

The problem is that the a 'script pack' is in even higher demand. Plus the SRL Members can get those scripts themself. Mainly what Fakawi posted on that pack thread. :)
