[ACRONYM="Quote"]With the arrival of the next generation of video game consoles, Runescape developer Jagex has expressed a desire to bring the popular Java-based MMORPG to home consoles.

In an interview with video game news website CVG, Runescape creator Andrew Gower said that a console version of the game has been something that they have been considering, and the advent of the more internet-connected consoles has made the idea more tempting. Gower also noted that they could probably get Runescape running on the PS3 right now, and porting the game to other platforms, technically speaking, "isn't a huge amount of work."

However, Gower also revealed that Jagex is still slightly reluctant to bring Runescape to consoles. According to Gower, the more platforms the game is available for, the more Jagex has to update in parallel. "That would slow us down," said Gower. "We're loath to lose the rapid response … that we've got at the moment, and the more platforms we go to the more than happens, so it's a bit of a trade off."[/ACRONYM]

What do you think about this? I think this would be very good, but not at all if they only transferred the graphics they have now… It would have to be completely renovated? :redface:

Can they really go on for the next 2-3 years on a browser based java game? I think its possible they will start on consoles, well they are the future of gaming! What do you think on the topic?

Well like you (or whoever that was) mentioned up there a console game version of RS wouldn't be updated much. I mean who has the money to go buy a new version every month or so when they update. I don't think it will happen unless they come up with some genious system of updating through the internet or something. Besides… there is a large difference graphic-wise between RS and a PS3 game for instance.

Ps3 has a 60 and 40 gig harddrive, right. So if you wana play it on ps3 (new game with oblivion type graphics) you put the disc in yippedydoodah you can login and play..Oh no you come across an update, so you can download it onto your harddrive or onto a special usb or something that they design. Easy!

this is an amazingly stupid idea, it is one of the games for computers that are unique. i hope he doesnt do it

Well you can go online with your ps3 right, so technically, you can already play runescape on ps3

I'm asking now whether a completely new rs came out with totally insane graphics on blue ray disc came out for ps3 with complete dungeons and full voice dialogue and stuff… That would be too good

f**k ps3 if this game came out on ps3 it would give me another reason to hate it. First off, let me say this is a horrible idea for them because for one if they kept the grafix it would be declared the worst game in history of consoles. Next off if they updated the grafix for ps3 it would waste too much time and money + they would probably have to rewrite most of the game because who writes a ps3 game in java….? Last it would be horrible for a console unless they released a mouse and keyboard in which it would be a waste of money to buy when you could play it on your computer.

I wouldn't like it at all. So what if Runescape updates 50000 (Probly not that much) times in the next 10 years? Would it fit on the ps3? For this year? They would have to do Runescape 2, Runescape 3 and on for ps3

Usually when you make a rpg for a consol it has an end. It doesnt keep going on forever. The not being able to use a mouse would make it extremely boring and slow

To all of you that are talking about graphics:

When Grand Theft Auto came out, it had nes graphics in a time where graphics were starting to be cutting edge. The game was a HUGE success, not for the graphics but for the gameplay.

Runescape is the same way, it's not played for the graphics, it's played for the gameplay.

rs gameplay isnt all that great either. If it was a 2d game i doubt it would be popular at all

They should port it to the 360… much more people have those.


And for those complaining about updates, doncha now you can erase? Or that eventually, Jagex may release a new disk that you can upgrade to for free, including new updates so you can wipe them from your HD.

What the hell are you talking about? It's not like a ps3 is that expensive,it's as expensive as the ps2 was. I could buy one, but I just don't game much at all, so it would be a waste of money. And fyi, i'm lean and from belgium ;)
