This simple idea that started on May 13, 2007 of how I could contribute to the community and get people to work together has turned into a large scale operation although still holds the same essential values as when it started. MSI has changed throughout these past months and I feel the need to re-educate people on what MSI really is, and why they should get involved.
MSI’s main goal was to make scripts that would be able to train multiple skills, such as Ratz, but over time it became in include. This was not my intention although it did seem to work, I had the SvN setup to be more of a place to collect or group all of the work that people have done, not to create an include. Now I feel as though the thought of MSI being another include diverts people from contributing to it because they don’t want to have two includes, only SRL. I agree with you 100% and I know that some of you did like that idea of it being and include ,but think to yourselves, what happened in that past when there were multiple includes? What was the ultimate outcome? This thought stayed in my mind and has lead me to change MSI back into its’ original state, this being a collaboration of people ideas, scripts, talent and functions.
Now MSI’s main goal it still to create scripts that train multiple skills, although it has a more mature definition than it did in the past.
M – The only term that has lasted though the last six months, and that is Multi. My idea is that with this large of a collective intellect we can create scripts that will be able to train multiple skills without the need of a different script per skill like you'd normally find.
S – Possibly one of the most defining factors of MSI, this being that quality of the scripts. Superiority is definitely a goal of MSI, we don’t mean to overshadow other people although I think with all the people in this community we can produce scripts that easily outlast, outmaneuver, and outperform current scripts that are made by just a single person.
I – My personal favorite of the acronym MSI and also something that is very widespread throughout this community, Intelligence. I think that with all of us working together we can create a solution to any problem, even previously “unsolvable” randoms. ‘Nothing is impossible, only improbable.’ This is a quote from one of my favorite books “The Hitchhikers’ Guide to the Galaxy” and I definitely hold this statement in high regards especially within this community.
Another new aspect to MSI is the fact that we also strive to create new / unique functions as well as extremely high quality, and highly efficient versions of old functions such as FindObj. We do not mean to replace SRL, it is quit the opposite, we aim to aid SRL with a contribution of High Level functions and interesting new tools.
As my personal goal in scripting, I think that if we can create something that works, great. If we can create something that fools Jagex awesome, but if we can create something that can even fool ourselves, Incredible! I think that if we aim as high as the stars we can create the best of the best, and the most intelligent and creative functions of all.
I hope anyone and everyone who reads this will at least try to contribute to MSI, or at least keep their eyes open for upcoming events and projects. As long as you understand these words and keep your mind open to others’ ideals I know that we can accomplish the Improbable!
