SRL Archive - Senior News and General

Well, I have been in quite a few forums in my day and many have VIP sections. I won't pretend like I even come close to knowing the number of people that come in and out of this forum everyday. Think about it.. we gain new members every day. Charge say 1-3 USD (don't know other conversions sorry) per month to be a VIP. People would pay that (maybe make runescape gold an alternative? If you get 100 people in VIP section, that 100 - 300 USD more per month, which is about what the site cost is, right? Then the admins could profit from this site, not just uphold it. All you would have to do is some advertising and put some new scripts in there. People probably won't go for old ones because they have already seen them before. There could be some more things, just an idea…

EDIT: on the thread I deleted, town said this was not a good idea… maybe we could think of something else?

It would definitely help out the forum, but I think it might do quite a bit of bad, too…

RSGP or EGold donations would be really nice, though; my parents won't subscribe to anything online, and I can't verify my paypal, but I can sell gp's for egold or donate gp's.

maybe make a little script pack and sell a SvN repos(don't know how you would make that auth-ed or whatever)

lol I would just make it so one page would be like an ad or something… like everytime they login… or become active on the fourms… or every 30 mins(after a refresh) it would redirect to an ad page for like 10 seconds or so :p

Yeah, I should try something similar for SCAR, I need this stuff: It might not appear so, but maintaining and improving SCAR costs a lot ^^ Pay components are nice but they are very expensive, so far I've only been able to purchase the form editor

Personally, I have always hated sites with p2p or VIP sections, but that's just me. The ads should be making enough to uphold the site and buy dankness some beer every now and then. :)

I'm not joking though, just give me the name, it may take a day or so but I can get it for you.

As far as making money for the site, I think Dank should set up an account for the like ad thing where you make $0.01 per ad viewed and then SRL Automatically will sign you up for it, then if you want you can just go on it, make yourself some money and have Dankness referred. That would probably make quite a lot of money if we could get like even 1/2 of the SRL Memebers.

well look at it this way, has dankness or anyone said, "we have a problem, we need £££ for the site, i need some idea please".
unless I'v missed it, i dont think he has, so this could be a solution to a non-existant problem.
it might help though, so SRL doesnt fill up with wee little newbies :)

lol if srl needs help i propose we sell all r gpees for Real cash… then donate to him :p if it ever becomes that needed.

I know Dankness wont ever ask for $$$, he's a far to honourable man for that. There is a Donate button on top of the forums, but only a few actually use it. Money to keep this site up, is ALWAYS welcome, but it has to come out of the heart. But I will place a Donate Reminder.

I make enough to pay the expenses for running the site and to buy some beer every now and then. So this site should be making similar amounts, maybe even more since the ads here are placed in better locations than on my site (google tells me placing ads throughout the thread is much more profitable than simply at the top/bottom of the forum)

I think there shouldn't be a VIP section. I think that if push comes to shove we should sell mils and give the profits to SRL, but thats about it.

And the donate button works well.

I agree. Known 'VIP' sections tend to rip things apart. But stuff like SSRL which not many know actually exists is fine. IMO

Maybe donators should get a cup or something…

But I don't think that they should be given anything extra (like scripts etc.), because that would turn SRL into a completely different place.

Well the Site supporter bar is kinda a donators cup..

Has that bar only just come in? Ive never seen it before :p VIP sections are silly. And make SRL look like we are in it for the profit. Which we arent. WE are merely in it to play with scar. Not to make money (WEll most of us anyway)

Well yes. And script sales ofcourse. But for the most part. We didnt choose "scar scripting" as a career option :p or even a part time job

guess you need to know a different language to do that kind of stuff.
