User Infraction Permissions
Can Give Infractions to Others
Can See Others' Infraction Level
We upgraded the priviledges for SSRL Members. SSRL Members now have the ability to:
Close Threads.Reopen Threads.View IP Adresses.View Detailed Location Info.See Ediited note by.Can give Infraction. Can see infraction level.
Now listen up.
With these priviledges comes the responsibility to handle them. These priviledges need to be treated with respect, objectivity and maturity. So dont go closing threads like crazy or handing infraction out by the dozen.
We are generally very happy with the way things go at SRL these days. There is a lot of spam, true, so that can be filtered out more efficiently with you nurturing our newbies in the same spirit as we do. But on the other hand, we created the conditions, so you cant really blame them for postrising.
We (Dank and I) agreed to give this a trial period, which will be evaluated and possibly reversed.
But I am a positive man. I am sure this will be a splendid addition to SRL forums. You are all ok people, I value your judgement, you know how to handle an argument, and I think you are all doing a great job for this forums.
BUT:
Handle with care!

AWESOME. Thanks Fakawi. Question, how can SSRL be secret if we go around closing and opening threads, etc.
Are these only privileges or is it our responsibility to moniter the other forums and give infractions where it's needed?

To my believe it has been know for a long time amongst members and non members that certain hidden groups exist. In case of SSRL, there has been the issue of the large Avatar. It has been mentioned also a couple of times at member board. In case of Developers, its clear there is a hidden level.
I dont think this will lead to problems, but as usual:
Let the discussion begin.

No obligation whatsoever. You are free to do as you please, as long as the boards modifications are objective, moral, and mature. This is not an order, its a call to reason.
Once again, I like the forums the way they are now, but this will ensure more flexibility, and give
RAM some downtime too :)

Thanks Fawki, and Dankness; I'm sure we'll be able to handle the responsibility quite well.
Question: Difference between the up arrow and the down arrow? I assume one gives an infraction and one takes one away, but they each have the same tooltip.

Ya I was wondering the same thing :p…
too bad i was going to give fawk an infraction but i cant :p
owell :p
And i bet RAM would love to relax when he knows Im out there finding spam :p
right XD….
TBH Im afraid of using the powers cause they would for sure come around and bite me in the ass cause I did somthing wrong!
Well, I have turned into an Anal Retentive Spam Nazi….
Just try to keep in mind, most of the spammers are just young kids…As I mentioned before..I usually wait until they made their 10 SPAm posts, then just merge them all together, post a link to my "Attention Spammers and Leechers " thread..then either infarct them, or if I'm in a good mood, just give them a warning…..this is only for the people that I see making 10 BACK to BACK posts…..Occasionally you will see a
"COOL" or "
I'll be sure to try this script"…I usually just give them a warning…and tell them, if they are going to take the time to post, make it worth while for everyone to read…..Be warned….try to be as tactful as possible…..I have made several enemies since becoming mod….people sending me hate mail…wanting to argue over the validity of infractions..and even trying to send me viruses (FuzzBall Saga)…I just take it all with a grain of salt, and try to think for the better of the community…I rub my
W.W.F.D. bracelet and ask the master for guidance …..
I think you guys should see all these buttons now….
Blue check for giving rep….
Red X for reporting a post…
IP for checking IP..
Infraction buttons……
As far as I know, these buttons are linked together, and both of them serve the same purpose…though I think the yellow one is meant to be for warnings (No Points), and the red for infractions….Rumor says 3 infractions = Ban, but I'm not sure on this either…
Clicking on the IP button will take you to another page…it will show you users that have shared the same address recently…good for checking SRL Member applicants…
Darky, and Everyone else, I'm sure you'll all do fine, don't feel obligated, but you are all some of the most intelligent and thoughtful people here on the forums, and that is why you were given these additional powers…and I'm sure you guys can make an positive impact on someones life, and hopefully set them on the right track, to be a good scripter, or just a better contributor to the community…
and yes, I will enjoy the down time …. I actually started writing another script tonight, so it was nice to know this place is in good hands now :)
~RAM
EDIT: Looking at Smartz Post, maybe you weren't given IP Privillages yet….

Ok, but when can I give someone an infraction or close a thread? For some simple spam post/thread or do they need to flame like hell?
And could someone please write a tut like "Moderating for n00bs"? I don't want to test stuff and that it goes wrong, it's a bit too risky for that. I don't want to get kicked out for accidentally abusing those powers

The Claw, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

Well for me lately I've been doing what does used to do and did ~Pseudo locked~. Then i jsut reported my post and usually a mod/admin came in behind me an locked it. Generally it was RAM or Wizzup and they usually posted something after me before locking. But sometimes it just gets locked with no post after mine. So I think I'll keep doing that so it seems everything is normal, and maybe if your about to lock just go something like "Lock plz?" then lock it so it seems like you asked for it to be locked.
Just and idea

Why is it that I need to go away during the good bits?
Anyway, just a thought, but with this update to SSRL status, people will find out that certain "SRL Members" can close threads, that's all fine and dandy but if someone has the potential to attempt a scam, they will. I've been here for a long time, however due to me not playing runescape as much as I would like to, I'm not so active, and suddenly I get some powers of moderation on forums I visit maybe one every few days? Give it a few weeks and some wiseguy would probably be able to scam a newb for his password or something. My proposal is SSRL members goes public with a full explanation(it's not like we can't stop the mass requests for it now ;)), or a list of all the SSRL members are posted trial editions to the moderator team.

Dark noticed something that could pose as a problem. When you give an infraction it shows the name of the person who gave it on their profile. So if someone looked and saw and was like "Hey they aren't a mod/admin!" it might raise some questions. Is there anyway to take out the name of who gave it if they arent a mod. Lol, me too.
But the difference between closing threads and giving infractions is that people can't see who closed the threads. So we could do 1 of 2 things if we were to be given these powers
Have a code for each time we lock a thread. Post like "can a mod close this?" then close it.
Or we could simply just close the thread without saying anything. :)
I think it would be good if we could at least close threads in the appliance section. Of course it's not up to me, but IMO it would save a lot of people from getting flamed/possibly some people from getting in trouble for flaming.

Wait…opening and closing, there's no names given (assuming nobody goes around 'Closed!', etc). Infracting, it tells the infracted who infracted them.
Thus wouldn't it be better for us to be able to open and close and not infract?

I know we can't do these -
Close Threads.
Reopen Threads.
I don't know about these -
View Detailed Location Info.
See Ediited note by.
I know we can do these -
Can give Infraction.
Can see infraction level.

I'll get confirmation, then update the first post. :)
Closed threads/reopen threads would be nice sometimes for the Spambot threads and Gravedigs that become spamfest.

idk, I was talking with another SSRL about it, Wizzup had just went to take a nap not a min before we started talking about it.
Tho reading thru this thread, we lost it to keep SSRL secret but SSRL is public now, so will we get it back?
Also the ip stuff I think we lost in the SRL-forum -> Villavu change?

The IP stuff wasn't necessary and yes, it was taken away and our powers to do so was actually quite useless. We couldn't look up, it was only we had access to a big table.
The close and reopen threads, we can still do :D. Try doing it for one of your OWN threads ;). Bet you can still! I may be wrong here, but you could not do it for others before and can not now. :)
Hmmmm I thought I could always closed my own thread. I might have never really tried until recently.

If we all would have powers to close any thread and move and so on. What would be use of section mods :P

The "IP stuff" is viewable through
"who's online". About thread closing; I don't think that's necessary. If you'd close spambots' threads, we'd still have to delete them ;)
