New player - curious about something

Hello,

I decided to check out runescape after a few friends won't stop bugging me and frankly the first thing I do before I play a game is look for a script engine LoL – I hate tedious mechanics as much as the next guy. In my searching I found SRL. I've been going through some of the posts and looking at some of the tutorials etc. I came across one script entitled bot catcher.

I am curious as to why there would be a script posted in order to report scripters? Seems odd to me that the programmers of a script engine would want a script to detect and report it's users. I've also seen some members threaten to report users if they are lv 3 or under? This is also confusing to me.. What is the deal? Could someone explain to me the reasoning behind this obviously being new to game I must be missing something.

We don't rape runescape like the bots. SCAR can only run one at a time for each OS. The bots can run as many as their computer can handle. We also try to be as undetectable as possible. We try to blend in and not get caught. I report almost every level 3 autoing that I can find. Actually, I report ANY character autoing. If they can be caught, you're not doing it properly.

Here at SRL, we respect Jagex and their members. Any level three bots are blatant annoyances to both. We prefer to 'blend' with normal RS players.

Rsdemon is the name I think, they use lvl 3's (lowest lvl possible) and 4's, to bot, it is posted to try to get rid of these noobs who cannot take the time to use a leveling script, and get the accounts banned (java bots get you banned no matter what really), srl is NOT a java bot, as it takes your mouse (java bots dont) and does not get you banned.

Yeah, and Oprah is my mother!

How do you suppose I play InterScarMessage volleyball if you could run only one at a time?!

Na-a.

Anyways, yes, SRL is not the cause of the lvl 3 noob baldies, SRL macroing accounts are the 30 - 60 lvls who respond and act human like.

Not mechanically "click yew" "wait till gone" "click exactly next ones tile postion" etc..

EDIT:
java bots get you banned no matter what really
man, more coming -
java bots dont
*cough* KYAB doesnt, it just peeks info and is a Java bot controlled by SCAR ;) *cough*

If you're gonna act like that, give me a script, that still works, that uses ISM. On RS.

Nobody speaked about rs, "InterScarMessageValleyBall" ;)

Try sending an ISM with another scar, and then Writeln(ReadIt) on other scar, works.

Thanks for the info guys. Honestly I normally run more then one account on any game I play since I prefer to be self sufficient. When I am forced with a "one" client per comp I find some way to bypass it, however I've never played anything that was browser based before.

Personally, I think it is fairly hypocritical for a cheater to report a cheater but I would have to agree with hey321, if you fool enough to be such an obvious bot I would probably report them as well especially if there 20 of them in the same area.

how many reports can you do each day?

I just saw one report that said something around 900 reports in something like 19 hours.

yes there are 2 rsdemons, ones the bot which ive only heard but I know nothing about and the other is the toolkit at http://rsdo.net/ which Avador created back in 2003 for RuneScape Classic that is still being 'developed'. I used to use it, but because it doesn't get updated quick enough it has fallen behind, but it had some cool features for a toolkit of its time.

Stolen from RS forums
"Limitations of the Abuse Reporting System
Once you report someone, there's a 60-second delay before you can make another report. Some players have complained that this makes it too difficult to report groups of suspected rulebreakers.
As a work-around, if you really feel strongly about wanting to report as many suspected rulebreakers as possible, you can always write down the names and use the "Comment on our Service" link from the main RuneScape homepage to send us the list in a private message.
This isn't ideal - Abuse Reports are still much stronger evidence - but equally, we understand that you'll want to get on with your own gameplay rather than feeling like you have to stand around waiting for minutes on end for the Report Abuse system to catch up with you."

If you want to run more than one script at a time, I suggest you check out virtual machines, since that's exactly what they were designed to do in the first place

It's not really hypocritical to report a botter. Our philosophy is that we respect RS and play within the limits. Botters definitely don't respect RS (there are ~5 bots per tree), and they don't play within the limits (many accounts on one computer). They wouldn't be so bad if they were leveled up, but its seriously annoying to see level 5s in the mining guild =/

Normally I run vmware or I'll just remote login to myself on a win2k3 server (dependent on game). However, I don't see how one could say "we respect rs and play within the limits". Scar is a scripting engine designed to allow the end user a language to program automation features in the game. Does this not break the TOS of RS? Does this not allow the user an advantage over a "normal" playing character? You can create fully automated bots with the language can you not? (assuming you learn the language of course). That's like a gun manufacturer saying they respect life as they hand over the guns to the military.

Yes, you only allow one copy per O.S. in an attempt to cut down on a large scale bot operations. Yes, many preach from the pulpit that they hate "boters" and what they do to the game, while at the same time in the background they are mining away automated or leveling automated. Now I will give you that there is a distinction between someone that is running 100 accounts for profit vs someone here running a single character or two to be self sufficient in the game or for their guild. However, I am also sure some of these advanced scripters that use scar are smart enough and bypass the 1 per O.S. limitation if it's worth while to do so. Personally, I haven't got that much into it yet, waiting for my week grace period and 10 posts while I play the game normally to learn the mechanics.

What I gather from being new around here and browsing the forums is don't you dare script mine, lumber, fish or whatever until you use a bot to raise your level because people relish in reporting low level scripters. To me, no big deal. I would never be foolish enough to script something in an obvious area at some newbie level anyway, that just asks to be reported. In the end however I see little difference between this cheat and any other. The distinction that I see is this group/community does not foster some 3rd world farming operation and uses it more to their own goals. Ie.. They are not running 200 clients 24/7 for a profit. Yes, a distinction between the type of "cheater" but still a "cheater" none the less.

Just to clarify I hate large farm operations as much as the next guy they do ruin the game economy. When I find operations as such in games I normally like to kill them all and disrupt their scripts more then report them considering I know in a day they will just have another 200 accounts anyway. However, if they are in a "non" pvp area I would report them as much as you. So don't get the impression I support 200 client farm for profit operations because I do not ;) I just think the idea of one cheater saying they are better then another cheater is hypocritical especially from a programmer that designed a language to cheat the game lol. In the end both parties are breaking the rules. Perhaps in a court of law you may not get a longer sentence then the 200 man farmer operation but you would be found guilty.

[LEFT]I would like to thank the people of Jackex for creating a wonderful game. We could not have done this without you. We honestly hold you in high esteem. Next comes Kaitnieks, who kept us together in a most remarkable community filled with extraordinary people. He enabled us to play the game with a different approach. A approach Jackex calls "cheating", and "against the rules", but for us it is an intelectual challenge: outsmarting the system, solving each trap they set out for us. Consider us Masterthieves. We do not use any illegal methods. We do not infringe any copyright, we do not use our knowledge about the java code, we do not break any laws. We merely play "against the rules". We cheat. Thats what we are good at, thats what we do.

Some people here, like myself, script because they are enjoy the problems runescape throws at them rather than to gain geepeez, its therefore our aim to make the most humanlike scripts we can…

2007-10-13 21:04:33

yea i agree with mat,

its definatly a fun challenge to make human like scripts and most of the advanced scripters arent around for the gp…

Most bots use 'throwaway' accounts. The just create a new char, run it on one single script as long as they can, and then sell the autoed goods to other people. Eventually these characters get banned.

Essentially, they are planning to get banned, so they overcome this with sheer numbers. We focus more on quality than quantity. Most here plan to make characters that will be around for a very long time.

It's a different philosophy. If you prefer the churn and burn strategy then SRL is probably not for you.

Churn and burn – Ha.

I would go for quality over quantity any day of the week ;)

Having to make volume accounts all the time would be a drag.

just make a skiller about level 40 different clothes and original name and you will have alot less chance of getting reported.
