Well, Im making a script, and while I was tweaking the walking, I picked up a newcomermap for fun, and looked at it, and it shows a cross where you are!

I think that could somehow be used to make walking better, if coordinates for that map would be made, and then we would have a DDTM of the cross, so then we could get the cross center coords, and thatwise detect are we in draynor bank etc.

Though it would take pretty good effort.. Looky:

Lol, nice :P So that's what Jagex does when not trying to find us…

It could be done by finding the text 'Draynor', and then check in the cross is in a near box…

Yeah, the map isnt maybe 100% accurate as world map, but it still shows what it needs to though.

meh its not really accurate but it could be made as a smal failsafe in big walking scripts?

yer i think so

Nice find.

Here's a test for you:
Stand somewhere, and get the coords of where the cross is on the map. Move 20 (or some other easy to remember number) tiles away, and get the coords of the cross again. Find the distance between those points on the map, getting DistA. Now stand somewhere else, and repeat the whole thing, moving 20 tiles, finding the difference between the points, DistB. If DistA and DistB are the same, this could be pretty accurate.

Sorry, but I didnt understand :p

Meh, I tried this:

I stood in al-kharid bank, next to door, walked 20 tiles to south, but the cross didnt move at all =/ It seems to only show the city = only a failsafe for range of 100*100 tiles lol..

That map would be perfect walking tool only if the accuracy would work as we wanted.

Look, newcomer - our lil above 20/ 25 army people.

20/ 25 ~ lvl people are newcomers, and it is nice to see where you are!

+ no need to load the java applet in World Map, you can see a cross pointing where you are.

So, think about it:

A level 20/25 ~ "NewComer" walks around runescape, when he reaches a town (and when our scripts have finished the walking to a town) the "NewComer" checks from a map are we in the right place?

There wouldnt be a single bit suspicious thingies, because ofcourse NewComer map is made to be handy and especially for newcomers ;)

Yeah, not very useful since its not too accurate, better use music player..

The newcomer's map has been out since…like…the beginning of runescape…:p

Yes, but not showing where you are.

I'm not sure it should be used as a reliable source of information to determine where we are, however if you get lost it would be a pretty damn good way to verify you aren't x away from x, and if you can travel from lumby tele location to x.

I was such a 1337 noob that I never got lost :) I actually knew about this map, but not about the cross thing, maybe it was a recent update?
