Mining Procedure Competition

DEADLINE!

Introduction

Well, the other day as I was browsing through the members section, I saw all of these posts about people and their mining procedures. Since SRL Members is making such a "competition" of it, I thought why not make it official :D: thus I am hosting this competition.

Rules

Ok the rules are as follows.

 • No Plugins (sorry all you C++ fans). You are of course allowed to use plugins in you functions (you are allowed to make your own), but you must have a reasonable amount of coding inside SCAR.
 • No Copying other peoples functions. This is pretty much a given. The way to keep this rule is simple , do not show you functions to anyone. If any functions are the very close to the same (and i mean really close), those two will be disqualified b/c I don't know who's originally it was. All's fair in love and war as they say, so if you let others see your functions, expect your style to be copied.

Grading

Grading will be determined by the following:

Creativity (X / 25)
I want these procedures to be top of the line, cutting edge. I want you to use the most advanced techniques you know. I want to see things No one has ever done before. Use your mind!

Professional (X / 15)

by this i mean, don't make parameters specific. I want to see professionally created / designed procedures. Use variables for returning center points and different things and make it a function only if it needs to be boolean.

Technique (X / 30)

This will be based on the different techniques you use. I won't give any away here but its basically how you do what you do (this differs from creativity b/c that is just the creativeness. This is actually getting the job done

Standards (X / 15)

Follow correct standards. Comment procedures. I know these probably will not be in SRL(99% sure they wont :D), but i still want them to look neat. Even spacing between procedures, etc.

Requirements (X / 50)
I put so much emphasis on these because this is the reason of this whole competition. I here are the basics that will fill this category:
 • Speed
 • Finds rock (would be a good idea to find center, I can't tell you what else to return but remember, you don't get points counted off for returning more things :D)
 • Failsafes
 • DONT add randoms

Prize

Well, I know this is why most will be entering this competition so I am going to offer you two things:
1. Respect = Call it anything you like but if you win the competition, you will be known as one of the most talented scripters here because I know of some very talented scripters who are entering.
2. 600k - 1m runescape GP out of my pocket = I have no need for rs money so i decided to offer this up :D.

A SIMPLE Example
.

Well this example is very simple. When I say very, I mean very. It gives you an idea of what you function should. I tried to make it return some good details while not giving out any ideas. Try this on a mithril rock.

function FindRock(var cx, cy: integer; Color, Tol: integer; Hue,
Sat: extended): boolean;
var
cts, pMark: integer;
cPoints: TPointArray;
begin
pMark:= GetSystemTime;
SetColorSpeed2Modifiers(Hue, Sat);
cts:= GetColorToleranceSpeed;
ColorToleranceSpeed(2);
cx:= 260;
cy:= 167;
if not FindColorSpiralTolerance(cx, cy, Color, 10, 10, 506, 328,
Tol) then exit;
FindColorsSpiralTolerance(cx, cy, cPoints, Color, cx - 25, cy - 25,
cx + 25, cy + 25, Tol);
MiddleTPAEx(cPoints, cx, cy);
ColorToleranceSpeed(cts);
Writeln('FindRock time is '+IntToStr(GetSystemTime - pMark)+' msec');
result:= true;
end;

FindRock time is 15msec
Rock Found at (287,201)

Haha cool. What will you be judging on? Speed, accuracy or what? Maybe add some more information into the competition, its pretty vague. Like a maximum amount of functions/procedures, etc.

Looks good though ;) When is the due date?

Noob for not reading whole post…. Joking Hah. Um read top post no deadline yet. I will make a little more organized tomorrow. And just for right now, it will be judged on who's is the best

The Claw

2007-09-30 23:39:54

But what makes something the best? I mean you could have a super super fast procedure which moved the mouse over stuff with the rock color 100 times a second until it found the uptext. Or you could have a really accurate procedure, which only moved the mouse to the rock and clicked it, but got the rock every single time.

pwnaz0r

Everything you said in first post. Like i said, I will make it more clear this afternoon :D

Pwnaz0r, when we were talking about it I thought you meant like next month or something, I was planning on still having the team scripting competition, I'll send SB the post I want him to make "Or whatever he wants to do". Just to get people thinking about it.

I mean, its really just wasted time. And the due date, plan on it being thursday(since its only a few functions, 3 days should be enough time correct? its not like a whole script). I am leaving friday afternoon so yeah. It seems a little short on time but i think i might try to find a way extend this deadline a bit (maybe send them to someone else to grade?)

By reasonable, do you mean at least one line :garfield:
FindBlobs(GetClientCanvas.handle,0,0,w,h,tpa,len,8805210,50,40,250);
That will find any old mith rock, for any other rock, pick a random color off of it… For the new rocksI'd have to add in an upper tolerance as well as lower, but anyway… If its Thursday I'm not going to have time to write something in scar with school and other stuffs. :rolleyes:

Hah, I think he should just release it period. Anyways Ben, I guess i have no right to hold that against you, since C++ is you thing. Make sure to make it accurate though. I have been talking with some members (so many devs entering thought i would see what the members are doing) and they seem really good ideas. I have even showed 2 a few things(didnt help in their procedures though, just taught some things). If your a member and you want a base start, pm me on msn - pwnaz0r@hotmail.com. BenLand100

2007-10-02 22:22:14

@Lorax, I know its unfair, you guys can't even get the colors as fast as I can do the whole thing. In reality, Scar's FindColors method is 4 times slower that it could be if arrays were not used dynamically :sasmokin:
From: pwnaz0r
Make sure to make it accurate though.

After about 5 min of tweaking tolerances, this is basically what my results are: Note that average times are the total time it takes to run 100 times, divided by 100, so its pretty accurate (time wise).

Empty Rocks: FindBlobs(GetClientCanvas.handle,0,0,w,h,tpa,len,5526618,15,40,50);
Average Time: 4.22ms

Iron Rocks: FindBlobs(GetClientCanvas.handle,0,0,w,h,tpa,len,2634838,10,40,100);
Average Time: 3.91ms

Mith Rocks: FindBlobs(GetClientCanvas.handle,0,0,w,h,tpa,len,8805210,50,40,250);
Average Time: 4.06ms

Showoff.

I reserve the right, thank you. Plus, its a fact that a hand-written optimized method will be faster than a generic method, not to mention Delphi's policy on pointers and memory management. Furthermore, this is a competition for the best rock finding procedure is it not? I assume this is an appropriate place to show off your best work, unless my idea of a competition needs to be drastically redefined. Translation: Bight me :p

@Bob, Notice how everything is in the same place, it was an image, not the RS screen ;) However, if I wasn't doing average time, all three tests would have taken just over 12ms, so it could have easily been done that fast.

Why not? Because you don't know how to make one yourself? Its not like I'm bending space-time so that the rocks align themselves over a point, and then bend it back so that the points follow the rocks, or anything like that. Wizzup wrote a plugin so that his array sorting methods would be faster; I wrote a plugin so that my object finding would be faster. :)

Claw if you really want to know what happens inside ben's plugin in that place your rs char is, I cant tell you ;)

His plugin has a long leather coat, like morpheus in matrix.

It pulls out 2 cut shotguns from the coat, jumps a backflip in the air, and in the middle of the backflip, he spins 360 degrees time completely stopped, and shoots all the rocks, prints the blood to canvas ;)

Its not well suited to finding stuff with very low contrast, would have been much easier to search for the rocks by type individually than try to search for the rock color. Anyway, this is what I got so far, took a little longer at 8.13ms mostly due to the higher tolerance, and more points to sort through. Couldn't seem to get the silver (?) rock without getting false positives elsewhere. Its dark in dark however, plus you'd be searching for the specific type of rock in practice anyway. You might notice that some points are not near the center of the rocks, thats mostly due to it trying to sort through interference from the ground color.
I don't know if it'll have time to strew this together into a rock finding function by tomorrow or not, I'm quite busy with school…

Anyways, yeah, I think the motivation to take part here > 50% is to get close or beat ben.

Btw, just to make ben and all of you sweat, 43 ms atm :) And 100% Accurate, I would trust it to take blind man over a road.

Nice bourdou…

Btw I worked on mine after school, made my own plugin which detects all "groups" of the "same coloured colors" with possibly different darkness etc,

and here are the results.

I didnt put the search area as whole screen because for me it somehow messed with the Minimap a little, though I am trying to fix it.

For now,

You shouldn't have said that, it gave me an excelent idea! ;) However, its verry similar to what I'm doing at the moment… That raises the question, however, are we using the "new" rocks or the "old" rocks, or is it our choice. Cause if its the old rocks, i'm essentialy done. The new rocks don't have enough of a "blob" to detect specific types, however, so I'm going to try to go about it another way. Especialy with low contrast rocks like iron.
Current method goes as such:
Mask out colors that do not fit the tolerances,
Arrange points into groups,
Threshold groups.
Very simple, very fast, but low contrast and small sizes makes it much less effective.
I'm thinking more along the lines of:
Detect areas of color,
Mask out unneeded areas (not colors),
Arrange points into groups,
Threashold and arrange groups into close groups(new rocks).
Anyway, guess what i'm going to be doing Saturday ;)

The thing you mentioned above -.-

Meh, why all that shit, FindColorsTolerance FTW?

But I think it should be so that we can choose do we make for old or new rocks. Mine is for old, old rocks own.

Oww, is there a way anyone can beat ben? Except for me ofcourse :p (jk) (na, rly)

Like, he has the ultimate speed, no one can go under 4ms.

He can make any kind of friken accuracy systems, etc…

See, my question is how flexible does it need to be in order to win. Like, old/new iron/coal/mith/etc… As in what of those does it need to be able to find ;)

The answer is that it is as many as you can. Its up to you. Part of the grading is how much effort the users put into it. However most of the grading is on the technique that you used.

If I were you, I would do the new rocks and the old rocks. (could be one procedure or ten, I don't care). I was actually looking for new rocks too.\

EDIT: this will be my last post till sunday so be ready!

n3ss3s

2007-10-06 11:30:40

Sent mine to you ;)

Spoiler:

I have one ultimate for old rocks, finds all the rocks of the color on the screen in 47 milliseconds.

I have one HSL one by Pwnaz0r's request, its ugly slow (well still under 500ms though), but also works as supposed.

Then, I made one for the new rocks, which finds new rock on the screen in 94 milliseconds.

BenLand100

2007-10-06 17:50:05

I just wrote an entire HSL find colors that takes 30ms to run on the game screen area. Now to tweak it ;)
EDIT: Got it down to 22.4 ms for the whole process of finding new rocks. Heading on about 90-95% accuracy. Iron sometimes is confused by bronze boots, and tin is sometimes confused by steel/iron armor. The tin should be an easy fix of adding in a upper threshold for number of points in a group, or I could change the way I look for groups, which might not be a bad idea…

Ok just make sure they are in by Sunday guys, I only have one entry. Im on my hotels computer just to check in so hopefully you will have those in by then.

To keep you updated, I had a 8 hour car drive, so I did some research… and when i say some, i mean ALOT. I did a whole study you could say on some things that might change the way you script(for RS onlu :D). I have put 5+ hours into it so far so hopefully i will get some more done on the way home tomorow. I have writen a tutorial and I'm perfecting it/designing it as professionally as possible. Depending on what time I get home tomorrow, I may release it, else I will just type it up monday.

If you are wondering about the length of the tutorial, It fills up an entire spiral notebook( this includes research so I doubt the actual tutorial will be that long, of course I will shorten it some because I dont wanna type that long) but thats about it. See you on Judgement day guys :D

Ok, I haven't got time to do anymore, about to leave, so I'll turn in what I have. Its a new rock finder for Varrock. It will identify iron, copper, clay, and silver flawlessly. Tin, however, is sometimes confused by iron armor, but only when its over another rock. It uses HSL, and takes *brace yourselves* 60ms :eek:

The old rock finder, which I don't have time to tweak, took less than 10ms ;) Plus, for HSL, I do one search to find the possible rocks, then another search for each possible rock to narrow it down. A single HSL search took about 40ms. ;)

I must of misread your post, I thought you made one for old (~40ms), one for new (~90ms) and one using HSL (<500ms). I don't know where you're getting 7ms from. The 40ms was a single HSL search, but whatever :rolleyes:
I think its me, you, and sky. I sent in a Varrock all rock finder, sky's got an old coal (I assume) finder, you've got new/old/HSL finders.

I disagree, I said the 40ms one was for a SINGLE HSL search, not a rock finding procedure ;) You wern't using HSL for the old rock finder were you? BAH!!!! HSL IS MUCH SLOWER THAN RGB!!!! I'm doing a HSL search for every rock and the whole screen FASTER than you can do a RGB search for each rock and the whole screen :p
Don't you see that old rocks should be FASTER than new rocks anyway :eek:
The fact that you should have too do LESS analysis for old rocks, however for you it takes LONGER, should just show how much faster my HSL color finder is than scar's…

Yes, the outer points of each tpointarray.
Each rock has it's own tpointarray, so you can easily use
Result := MiddleTPA(aTPA);

Or do you mean like this?
