Okay guys, heres the deal. My PS2 is broken, and I don't know what to do. Heres the problem: I turn it on, without a CD in it, and it goes straight to the main menu, where you can pick "Browser" or "System Configuration".

I put the disk in, and it starts making a clicking sound. I click on browser, and I see it's trying to read the disk. It will go on forever and never eventually read the disk.

So I took it apart, TOTALLY took it apart, blew in it. Put a CD in and it worked. SWEET! My brother played for about 30 minutes, and then the same problem persists.


Any suggestions? I tried making myself as clear as problem to what my problem is.

Sounds like the gears in the drive are loose. The ones that raise and lower the disc depending on if its a cd/dvd/game. If theyre loose, and come out of alignment, the disc wont read properly.

Yes, I talked to the guy at ebgames, he said that might be the problem. Any way to possibly fix that without buying a new ps2?

same thing happened to me … the magnet came off the top of the dick trzay and it messed it up… just take it to someone to fix it

Who do I take it to? My grandma? I need a store that canadian to take it to. Or could I do it myself?

o jeez i forget take the top off and look for a lil glass bulb thats all i remember

I FOUND THE REAL PROBLEM! The laser slider thing can't slide back and forth around on the disc. I have to keep pressing a little plastic thing onto, what it looks like is a screw. Anyway to fix this?

I reccomend you find a broken ps2 forum

i went through 2 ps2s with the same prob before the one i have now. Cleaning the lenses seems to be a temporary fix but i dunno. i just showed them my receipt and i got a free one :P

You need a new lens inside your PS2.

This happened with me once and I bought a Lens off ebay Still didn't work so my Dad bought me a new PS2. =]

ZOmg this is happening to me to *Cries* I was thinking about just getting the 360, but for now, I can;t :(

No, The spinny thing inside of the PS2 that makes the discs turn was broke soo yeah. :fiery:

lol mine used to make farting noises, it was really loud too. I didn't know what was wrong with it But the slim one i have now works like a charm.

Buy an X-box lol.

xbox had the same prob.. at least xbox 360 and they costed twice more. I don't know if they fixed them yet.
