Yes, this should go in the programming forum, but this would not be replied to there.
Well, which would you, the end user, suggest? This is a controversial subject for some, but I find it hard to except Delphi for its closed-sourceness, because Borland apparently owns the language completely, and there are no non-trial versions of a IDE I have found.
On the other hand, Pascal is apparently open-source, and has a fairly good syntax.
Well, real question is, which is better? Or, what is the difference? If I could know that, I might be able to help myself.
Didnt borland drop delphi? or was it someone else who dropped it and borland picked it up. I always forget.
Pascal is pretty much rubbish nowadays. Pascal is to delphi what C is to C# and C++

What are you trying to do???
You just want to complie a program that does calculations use pascal.
You want to develop a application a GUI?, you want to make use of a library of functions?, use Delphi.
Past Delphi developers mostly now use C# and Java to develop.
Borlands JBuilder has been re-done and now uses Eclipse.
Delphi is moving under .NET now. Most Delphi developers that still use Delphi will find themselves working in C#.

So you are mostly saying "dead"?
Well, this isn't my first language, I know Java and C#, but not uber leet in them.
I was interested all of the sudden…
PS.: I really don't like you advertising Java all of the time… Its not for me… I want to learn C# and C cause C# is newest, and C is used on Linux/Unix.

Delphi is a pascal based langauge. :-\
And its not rubbish at all, its like an extremely advanced visual basic.
Pascal a advanced VB?
O and to the question about deadness. Its like VB. Microsoft dropped VB long time ago. Yet people still use it. Mostly because its easy.
If you are looking to keep up with the times. Then Ruler is right. C# Is the way to go. Although if you are starting off the bat C# it might not be so great.
Python was pretty cool as my first language. Can do suprisinglly alot with it. But ultimately. All roads lead to .net

Or Java, I actually know C#.
But Delphi is still being used? I know SCAR is coded in Delphi, but thats because of how hard it would be to make it into C or something.
So its mostly a "You shouldn't but you can." sort of thing?
EDIT: How about we answere this ONE question: Delphi or Pascal. I believe if either goes dead, there so "in the back of my mind" easy that it wouldn't matter to much, I program C# and Java anyway.

Yes delphi is being used. Although if it dropped it would be like…. WEll if freddy didnt pick up scar. Then we would still use scar for ages more. Even if it wasnt being developed further.
And to the first question. Pascal if you want debug application type things. And delphi if you want a gui and also more advanced.
