SRL Junior Members

In my opinion, this SRL Junior Member thing doesnt pwn.

People spam a lot to get the postcount to 10, and I think the qualification (is that a right word?) should be "better" (right word?).

I mean, that I think we should have

Leechers, they could view only the Free For All scripts, as they now can.

SRL Junior Membership wouldnt be just something you get with 10 posts, I think that it would be better if they would have to make a proper application like for SRL Membership, where they write a paragraph, demonstrate their scripting skills which ofcourse does not have to be nearly as good as for SRL Member, but basic knowledge of SRL and so, for example Hermpie's tea stealing script is kind of same level I think the applying level should be.

well, i would give my opinon.

nbut i know its worthless.

I know nothing about running a forum,

I know that changes like these wil impact in very interesting ways, and that without being able to see how a forum runs from up top[, that there is no way to predict them.

this is unarguably a good idea. fawki made it, and fawki runns a damn good forum.

I trust his decision completly.

Yes, it is a good idea, but maybe it could be umm better? :p

Hey you people of the upstairs come view!

i personally think that it ur idea is a good one, but then that would put even more strain on the people who have to look at all the apps.

just wondering, can the under 10 posters see the tuts?

Looking through all those apps would be HELL

But yes, changes are needed.

I say close srl up; have just enough public scripts to keep the leechers coming, which will keep ad revenue up, which is what allows this forum to be as nice as it is.

its getting better, i know what you mean n3ss3s but that is half of what we get when we make our script and 'SRL Free script' so just put up with it, changes take time to get use to so in the long run when everything gets straightened out everything will be A OK

This has been discussed before.. (not with SRL Members), and applications would be very useless, + hell to manage. You don't need 2 application processes. If you don't want people to see your scripts, keep them in members or spread them to some nonmembers privately.

The only way is to have the rank, SRL Junior Member, be automatically assigned like Lesser Demon and King Black Dragon. Find where these are assigned and add SRL Junior Member inbetween Chicken and Lesser Demon and set it on Activity(10-20%) an Longetivity(2 weeks).

EDIT: Woot, my sigs are back up. Some reason I couldn't load pages on my host =S

Well, I think that both ideas discussed suck.

Mine:

Have the new members make 25 posts, but have joined for a week, or have a high activity.

I am sure both can be monitored.

I say 60% activity, that should do it. 60% activity or at least 100 posts or SRL members of course.

You have to remember that you don't want to scare or unmotivate the leechers. Who knows, they may end up being a great person who could contribute to this community, but he didn't feel like making the 500 posts reqiured and staying online for 10 hrs a day (ok, not exactly that much, but you know what I mean.)

:) I like my idea even I would have to sort through all the apps myself.

EDIT: Hmm another stupid idea popping into my mind, if there were srl junior member moderators , which means people who could only moderate the public forum, and handle these junior member apps in my other idea

No board exists without lurkers. Moreover, the majority of any board is a silent one. This silent majority is very needed since it pays the bills that roll in every month at Danks door for running this board.

Juniors are more inclined to climb the boards stairway to fame, since they are allready something: - Junior SRL Member- I know it doesnt mean much in terms of threshhold, but psychologically it is of great value. I have seen a lot of people climbing out of their lurkingholes and actually start contributing, though I must say that the majority will just get their postcount up, but that was (of course) predicted. Nevertheless, I am convinced this measure will eventually cause a shift in mentallity, as you will see more Juniors applying for Membership and more Juniors complying to SRL board rules.

Agreed, definatly about the bills. Without them it wouldn't be that possible.

I also want to say that we don't have the time to check the applies, accept if some regular SRL Members (actually a lot, because there are a lot of Registred Users who will apply) check the appliances.

Guys I don't think we can ever have it be perfect. There are always going to be annoying leechers, with the only way to get rid of them being the closing up of SRL, which we know we can't do. So I think we should just bite our tongues and be helpful if we can, but otherwise not worry about it, because we can't do anything. I trust Fawkis decisions are made for the good of the forum, and I think the good choice will still always have downsides when dealing with this many people.
