Up to Standards in SRL Applications?
It seems as though a lot of people just sort of skim through SRL applications, and if the person uses color finding and DTMs or something they vote yes. I think that you should really look to see if the script is good enough for SRL Members - the title of SRL Member and this section is for people who are above average scripters and have demonstrated a unique scripting talent, not just the usual script stuff that you can find in the beginners/intermediate section. So the next time you vote, ask yourself if the script is unique, or just another run of the mill woodcutter.
Feel free to express your opinions.

I agree with you :)
If you don't read the whole script/thread, don't vote.

I have also noticed that a lot of people just vote what the first person votes also, without even (appearing) to take a look at the script. eg "I vote no", next post "me too, for the reason that guy posted", next post "me too, for the reason that the guy above me posted."
I'm with Code…Rarely do I vote….but if I do, I hold my vote for a few days, and see if this person is willing to accept criticism, or how their attitude is…..I noticed many more people have been holding their vote…and I would like to see it as a rule (not enforceable, just morale), that nobody votes the first day an application is submitted, and offer criticism or praise, and judge how the person reacts…so many times,I hear people say, "They wish they could change their vote"….Nobody is forcing you to vote, and you are not obligated to do so…if you feel you are on the fence, then I think the best thing to do is just not to vote…That way you won't have any regrets later…
I made a comment to an applicant the other day, that I didn't need to look at their script, to know they would be an asset to the community…and when they went and posted in the general section, I was sure to set them straight…that I indeed look at their script, but my decision wasn't based entirely on this…
As far as standards and criteria for what is acceptable and expected, I have seen in steadily increase in the last months…I really like it, when people have posted their scripts in the free section and have received feedback on it…it's very hard to say no to that…however I have witnessed some people being a bit to critical, to things as petty as semicolons ;)….
If someone is SRL member material, their skillz will ultimately shine through…

I used to vote, but not anymore. Kinda like what c0de said.

What about when someone becomes memberized with like a 6-5 vote? Would it make sense to have it be that you have to win by a certain percentage/ratio (it doesn't have to be like 90% or anything, but certainly more than 8-7)? I know I've seen people memberized with 19-2 and some with like 10-7. Just a thought, sorry if it's a little offtopic, but I didn't think it deserved its own thread.

Yes, that is a good idea, Tim0.
I'm actually not all that up-to-date on the application forums… YoHoJo and RAM_RUNE close all of the bad ones that appear every five minutes.

i think that its working just fine to be honest, at least 80% of apps are rejected, which seems to be about the right number.
however!!!
i believe some of the SRL members are putting too much stock in the parameters given as to "what is a good script"
ive seen someone who had all anti's, mulitplayer, the whole lot, however the script was VERY messy(it had standards, but it was just plain innefficient) and he was accepted(its a few pages back) and then i see people who miss out on something like multiplayer, but have ALOT better scripting methods then guy no.1, obviously grasps the concept of scripting and scar ALOT better, yet is rejected.

Yea but concept of using SRL (SRL=Multiplayer) is important (so is concepts of scripting and scar) for SRL Member.

what i mean is that perhaps for someone that shows promise, but not enough knowledge of SRL, gets the app re-apply wait set to 7 days instead of 30.

That is one of the best ideas I've hard in quite a while Elf..
Good idea elf - yeah, or for some of them that have like a 7-10 app and a great script, but it's missing something crucial. Maybe get Yohojo to approve those script makers of only a 7 day waiting period?

I agree with the shorter reapply time, if we know someone has potential, it gives them time to fix up their script and still not have to wait a month.

well, to be honest, i believe the 7 day thing is the best bet. 30 days means alot of people will just forget about it and go to other forums(30 days is a LONG time for alot of people) not from any animosity, but merely because the wait time is so long.
Meh…Not this debate again….Do a search if you want to know more…it has been beaten like a dead horse already….There is nothing they can learn in 7 days that will make them or break them…if that was the case, they should have waited 7 more days before applying in the first place….If it obvious they have potential, and they reapply within the 30 days waiting period, it will show on their application, but we should NOT announce the leniency outside of here..." The 30 day reapply time is aimed at the majority, not the minority "…..What other forums will we loose them to…SRL is the only include…There may be discussions about SRL at other forums but if they want to learn to best utilize SCAR/SRL, they will stay here and try and continue learning…

I have to admit I got into members on a sub par script. The requirements were less extensive back then though also. My script was only designed for one person (the action would be far less efficient and far more difficult with more players). My script used basic DTM finding. It was not, for the most part, standardized right. But it worked…very well.
I rarely vote as well but when i do i look far more at functionality than at the actual difficulty. If it does one simple task, but doesn't fail, it's worth far more than having the correct number of spaces. (don't get me wrong. I mean a profitable, well thought out task… not some shitty autotalker or rune buyer) or using some super advanced procedure. If it is an extremely functional script worthy of member use only then thats what decides it. Being a leecher at one time and still having access to killer scripts didn't make learning a necessity. In this way at least the members who get in CAN script and will hopefully learn.

ram rune: Ok, sorry, i probably should have searched before i posted. you are completely right and i do apologize.
The_rs_monkey: B2C was memberized before i got here, however im surprised most of you didnt pick up on his obvious lack of scripting talent, ive had a look at spoondemon and its basically one of genodemons scripts from a few years ago mixed with some other choppers ive seen around.
ransom: i was insta-memberized by fawaki, to be completely honest with you, at the time i was memerized, my scripting knowledge was not even close to good enough to have actually gotten in the normal way, however i would say i could easily whip up a script now(about 5 days later i think) that would get me in.
sorry for bringing up obviously cliche'd reasoning in this thread, next time i have an "original" idea, ill search to see if its as original as i think :P

Also, if someone does show a vast amount of improvement within 7 days (or before their 1 month time limit is up after they have been declined) there is always the possibility of an instant memberisation. However, as Ram said, not many people change in 7 days

I usually read the script a bit through, then I ctrl + f through it for a) "dtm", b) "bitmapfromstring", "radia", "nextpla", and so on :)
So the next time you vote, ask yourself if the script is unique, or just another run of the mill woodcutter.
Ill try that next time before voting :)
Well, it's way harder to get the SRL member status these days, than what it was when I got SRL member (atleast in my opinion). I got 0 no's and 8(?) yes, and these days I wouldn't get in with the script I applied with..
Oh, and I've also noticed the same thing The Claw has.. If someone votes no, the next people most likely will too, specially if it's someone "higher level" voting no ..
