You know i don't like this solar. Kyab should stay private.
If your reasons for doing this are anything like what there were before. Than you need to stop.
And they are.
Lol, no seriously, I have nothing against SRL or Jagex or anyone. I just released it so people can learn. Seriously.

I hope you realize this is a bad idea… Before you get tons of lechers and hackers… Go back to private while you still can so only good scripters can make good scripts.
Take the advice of many and learn from what others are trying to tell you

Trust me. Thanks for the wonderful advice, but no. There wont be that many leechers. I can guarantee it. People have access to KYAB, but no scripts, so leechers have nothing to use. As soon as someone submits a worthwhile scripts, it becomes members only and they turn accepted members. So the system is foolproof.

Um, did you change it where registered users can't see applications ?..Because it wouldn't be fool proof then ;)

Hmm? I don't understand what you're saying.

He's saying that all the leechers can leaf through the apps and get the scripts but RAM people can't submit KYAB scripts so all they are getting is SRL scripts.
From: solarwind
Hmm? I don't understand what you're saying.
Well…if regular users can see the applications….and someone submits a great script on their application….even though you may choose to move it to member's only….it has already been put out in plain site for the public to see ;)….what i been trying to explain to you for how many months now
Edit: Why wouldn't they be able to submit KYAB scripts if it is available to the public….
solarwind
2007-08-27 21:11:00
Well, then there's an easy solution. Once you're accepted, just remove your script.

Actually after reading the entire thing. It's not as bad, because they can't get at scripts, making them learn.

Bingo! :)
You all get my point? Giving them a bot but no script makes people want to learn and get in. It also gives them a resource TO learn. Plus, I made the tutorials public so they can learn even more. It's not a bad idea at all.

So far it's looking good. People are downloading it but they can't leech it since there are no public scripts.

Lol wtf? If you spent half a minute looking in the "tutorials" section, you would see a BIG sticky in BOLD letters saying "the ultimate kyab tutorial" explaining everything start to finish.

Solar, what RAM is trying to explain is that in the KYAB forums anyone can see the applications. If someone were to submit with a KYAB script, other leechers could get to it before the person became accepted. We need it to be like here at SRL, where you can only see your app and none of the others. Forgive me if you already understood all this and i'm just wasting time :p
Other than that i like the idea. At first i didn't, but after thinking about it more and realizing how it's leech-proof i'm finding i like the idea. :)

2007-08-28 01:02:17
well i dont see the point of this really…
1.) leechers arent going to spend time learning to use this (same deal as before because only SRL members can use it)
2.)you have to have a pretty good understanding of Scar and SRL before even trying to learn to script with KYAB (same as before allowing only SRL members to use)
3.) people that actually learn to script Scar SRL good enough to use KYAB are probably gonna become SRL members anyway…
am i missing something here or as nothing really changed lol?

Well then they aren't going to be able to use it because in order to use it they need to learn how to make the scripts that make it run.
Solar, I think this might actually help the KYAB community, but we'll see.

Solar get some ads up to help you with hosting costs already the new influx of people will now allow you to make a little to help cover the cost. I also think you should close applications to the public. I dont think anyone besides members should be able to discuss future members.

xKYAB is a merge between ollie's project and KYAB and it is still work in progress. Devs can see it and download it. Devs and devs only at the moment. OpenSCAR is kinda slow going as it is just a "for fun" project.
And I am currently trying to make the applications SRL style but it's a bit hard with SMF. I totally agree making them SRL style where only the applicant can see it.
And as for the "not many people will try to learn", it is released for those WHO DO want to learn. I agree leechers don't care, but there ARE a lot of people who are interested in learning how things work under the hood.
And as for the ads idea, you're right, I'll think about it. Does SRL have ads? I don't know, I use adblock for firefox so I haven't seen an ad in ages.
Also as for the tutorials, I am still working on that big one thats stickied. Currently, there's a lot on my plate so everything will take some time to settle. It looks like everything is falling in place well though.
