My friend

Well, I cant really think of an interesting opening sentance, so i will just tell you whats going on.

My best friend has divorced parents. He lives with his mom, and his stepdad. There are a total of 5 of them in the house. His stepdad is supposed to be paying 500$ every month to help support them. He hasnt been for the last 5 months or so. His stepdad has a good job, and is paying for all 5 of them to live in that house. They are living from paycheck to paycheck, barely making it anywhere. His mom does have a job, but apparently it isnt great. To make things even worse, they just spend a couple thousand dollars on a lawsuit on his dad, that didnt work.

Basically, they are moving 30 minutes away, I probably wont see them at all anymore. My friend and his brother have to quit hockey, because they cant afford it. They can barely afford to go to school. He is 12. And he has basically lost everything. They got rid of their internet, cable for TV, and they cant even afford a house, they are going to live with their grandparents. Now, my 12 year old friend, has to get a job, to afford anything that he needs. He needs about 500$ or more, just to play hockey. Another 50$ or so, just to go to school. So, altogether, him and his brother need to raise about 1100$, just to continue their lives, not including computers, TVs, and all those other extras in life, like a house for themselves, and their mom.

I know that there isnt really anything I can do for them, its not like I have 2000$ sitting in my bank that I can just lend out. I'm 14, so I cant legally have a job, unless it involves babysitting or things like that. Its almost the end of summer, two weeks until school starts, so its not like I would have a lot of time to get the money anyway, same for them.

I'm not asking for sympathy, but is there any ideas about how I could help them?

I think your friend should talk to his father about this or get his mother to do so or go live with his father.

sucky stuff like that happens:( i guess its life:( i dont think how you could help them and i dont think they would accept your money if you gave it, just try to still be with them, maybe ask your hockey trainer if he could play for less? get signatures from as many people as possible so the school has to accept him for free, stuff like that….

Why does he have to play ice hockey? Why would he need cable TV? Internet?

They are probably just spending more money than they can make –> Oh shi-
They should make a new budjet and live without "luxory".

I don't know how the things are, but if stepdad has a good job they should be able to live a decent live, it just requires more organization and adapt new lifestyle.

And by the way, life isn't fair.

So they don't have ice hockey, cable tv and internet.

I feel sorry for them. Life isn't fair.

Here at my school, if a kid can't afford to play a sport, usually they can just talk to the coach, and can play for free.

School is free, but not the classes you take. Gotta pay fees to cover material costs for class.

Not for our school.

Play hockey for your school then, for free, if they have hockey?
