Program Development

Well, first off, i know this isn't SRL related, but it's the best members only category i could think to put this in.

I have an interest in possibly creating my own CDE, something along the lines like SCAR. However, i really don't have much experience in program development, so i have a few questions.

1. How would i get started to prepare for developing such a program? Any good websites that you know of that have tutorials/guides?

2. For the language i'm thinking about for the scripts to be written in, i've looked at Aikido. I don't really know what factors of a programming language i should base my choice on.

Aikido: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aikido_...ng_language%29

3. Anything else you would recommend/have input to.

Thanks for any and all help!

I didn't find much about how the language looks, post any examples?

I might go for a language with a python style…

I will when I can. I decided Aikido, because it was partly inspired by pascal, and is a newer language. I'm planning on learning Delphi as the lang. I will develop it in. Any suggested guides to Delphi?

Aikido is written entirely in C++ and there is no Windows port.

Before you get too deep into something, you should make sure that the language you're using will support (without too much trouble on your part) threads, OOP?, ehh…anything else that will come in handy to use in a script

You should also decide what you want your CDE to be able to accomplish. Will it need speed? Low-Level OS 'dis an' 'dat? Multiple OS compatibility? Etc?
