I NEED HELP!

I have been looking through this forum, and I have found many people that should have been reported for being a noob, but weren’t. I can’t report them because it has already been a day or two, and posting about it, or making them the recent noob would be irrelevant. Noob reports need to happen lightning fast, right after their post, or close to it, to be effective.

Since I have realized that I cannot cover the entire mass of these forums, I am asking for your help!!! I need more good, qualified, polite, helpful administrators to make this noob system work! By becoming a noob reporter you are allowed to put this awesome sigbar into your signature, as well as be known and respected for you help in making this community a more organized and helpful place.


BECOMING A NOOB ADMIN IS NOT FOR EVERYONE
Reporting noobs is NOT as easy as it sounds. I admit, it is a pain in the butt, and is hardly ever just fun and games. You get flamed afterwards, you have to be nice, and you are judged harsher than the people you report, by the people you report, merely because you are supposed to be an example. If you don't mind all of this, then please, keep reading.

Duties of a Noob Admin:

1. First and foremost, you need to help me cover the mass of these forums, and submit noob reports by going here http://noobpoints.tehintar.net/noobadmin.php . Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the "New Noob" link, and fill in the information bellow. You will then be provided with some BB code that you may copy if you wish, and the noob will be part of everyone signature automatically.
Now, here is where it gets tricky, you MUST NOT let your noob report come off as flaming! It is VERY easy to slip, and do that, and will COMPLETLY destroy the effectiveness, and usefulness of this system. When you report someone for being a noob, you are essentially insulting them, but you MUST find a way to do this, where it does not seem so bad. You need to make them feel stupid, but NOT offended. How you may ask? The best way to accomplish this is by HELPING the noob first! If you ever report a noob, you should give them a link to where they can fix their problem, or at least tell them what they did wrong, or what to search for. You must be very polite, and helpful about it, and make it seem like you really don't want to report them, you just have to, in order to encourage them to do better next time. HELPING THE NOOB IS SO VITAL THAT IT IS A REQUIRMET. If you leave a noob report without being helpful, then you are hurting the system, and will immediately loose you admin status. You are NOT required to report noobs, and if you can't find a nice way to do it, then DONT! Here are some good things to add to your posts to make them come off more effective "Hi, and welcome to the forum :)" "I know you probably are just trying to … but please, next time try to do … instead/first" "I understand where you are coming from, but you will find better and faster answers if you…" "I hope you understand my reason behind this, don't worry though, they are temporary, and won’t last long if you don't commit another offence :)" etc. Did I make it clear that being a noob reporter basically means that you have to help every noob? Refer to "BECOMING A NOOB ADMIN IS NOT FOR EVERYONE" if you don't understand.
2. Editing Unofficial posts.
If you are looking at the database at http://noobpoints.tehintar.net/noobadmin.php and you notice that "Unofficial" left a noob report, which means that someone without a password, who is not an admin, witnessed a noob worthy offence before you did. Follow the link to the offence and check to see if it is valid, then proceeded to step number one. To edit a noob report, simply click on the "edit" link to the right of it. Be sure to make sure the "noob reason" is correct, as the information of that field is lost by clicking edit.

If you think you are up to this, and wish to help out the community, then please PM this application form. I will give you a password that you will use when submitting noobs. I hold complete administrative rights over my own system, and I can remove anyone, at any time, for any and no reason from being a noob admin, with or without notice. As a general rule, I will give you ONE mistake, and ONE mistake only. If you submit a noob, and it comes off as flaming, or if it is not helpful, then you are not admin quality, and you get one chance to fix your sweet talking skills.

are now admins. I still need more. I don't want the admins to feel pressured into reporting noobs, else they wont take the time to do it nicely. I need more nice people to lessen the load.

You dont have to use any signature, that is all personal preference.

im am mkaing cutom sigs for people, but that is on a diferent thread, go search for it.

if you cannot report someone nicely, then yes DONT DO IT



@ hugo, yeah, i can do that, but i dont want to because i want to make sure the noob points stay temporary, not to mention i want more humiliation for the most recent noobs.

i supose if you have a high volume of noobs i can make you one (it wouldnt be very hard)

@ everyone, I am accepting prety much anyone with a good post count, who fills out the app, this does NOT mean i am keeping everyone, i will be reviewing their posts and decding as time goes on.

suggestion would it be possible to let admins log in then be able to veiw just the unofficials?and ty for admin-ership.

yeah, i know, making nice posts is a pain, i dont blame you.

i didnt know about the [admin] tags until now, thanks :) but i dont want to use them because.. it may come off as too harsh ya know?

@robot, accepoted, and yeah, i wish the unofical ones would work too, mabey eventually people will catch on.

I don't like the NoobPoint system. Let me explain why:

I feel that no matter how hard you try to merely make the "noob" feel stupid that person is almost always insulted, hurt, and usually to some extent made fun of.

I also think that the signatures further ridicule these "noobs" and go against what I believe to be The SRL image.

I can see why people get annoyed with these "noobs" for asking an occasional question that seems dumb to all but the asker or making a stupid post especially as most of us see and put up with this regularly and often answer the same questions.

well, see, thats really thje key point here. We are trying to do this in a way where they are only affected enough to get them to change their behavior. Most ooobs wont spend the time it takes to go and read what it was htey are doing wrong, and i think they they need a little extra help. Sure, they might be offended, but their noob points will be gone soon, and they will have also gotten helpfull information in the process.

i have tested their laod time, and it really isnt that bad comared to the other signature people use. I supose you could turn off isgnature if you like, or get firefox and block the link too

well, after thinking about that, i supose you are right. The signatures do give off that vibe, but only if you take them out of context. These arent meant to hurt noobs, just ridicule them untill they stop acting like one. It is really all meant to help them, this is why the admins are required to help them, and why there is added encoragment to help them get out of that level, and to start helping themselfs. This is really the only option, and the best way to help the noobs is force them to help themselfs, the sooner they do it, the better off they will be, and once they do, the noob poiunts will be long gone.

yep, and not only is it anoying, it wasts forum space, and confises other who then think the problem has not been resolved. Not to mention, this is only the problem with ONE of the many reasons you can be reorted for being a noob. For more of the "why" you can get a link to soreabs post on how to be a noob

no, ofcourse not, and i dont think that this system will do that if it is used correctly. I thnk it will help push those fawki scripters up to the next level, so they cna get closer to thier potential.

If it was just the occasional question, I don't think this would have came about…..I urge you to take a look at the member's list and see how many new people register here everyday….It's not just about making them feel dumb,but rather helping them…grooming them to be the next Great Scripter….

What measures are actually in place to make sure this system is used properly?

Especially after giving many users the ability to appoint "noobs".

well, honestly, i am really only letting people in if they have a high post count, and if i have seen that act nice before. Other than that, i am leaving it up to them really to make it work.

If something goes wrong, i have instructed the noobs to allaert me. (i intructed them in one of the links in the bbcode.. the actual index page.

Not to mention that i continuously look through the reports myself. A link is submited so i can view the actual offence and responce, and judge whether it is effective or not, not to metnion that it is logged who reported them.

I can very easily remove a reporter if i need to, and i will without hesistation.

yeah.. i know what you mean.. i really didnt want ti to come to this either, but i was forced too. There were to many noobs for me to handle really. And that made it unfair that i reported one noob, and not the other. I had wanted that problem to be fixed by allowing anyone, ANYONE (it stil is like this) to report noobs, they would just be unofical, and not worht any points until an admin edits them. Unfortuantly, very few people did this…

Its difficult to use. You must scroll all the way to the bottom of the page then click on the text make the form visible. In my opinion it should be at the top of the admin page and always visible. Another refinement I would make is when echoing the offenses to the page you should make the most recent one at the top of the page.

Make it clearer that anyone can report a "noob" so a trusted admin can make them a Noob.

Other than the above I am now content with your system. I still dislike it, but I least now I don't hate it.

edit: With public reporting make it so your reporter has the option to take credit for his or her report.

(Btw: Some people really are Noobs ;) :p)

Actually, that's the reason I posted them. It seems more harsh. I know if I didn't know who you were and you posted a warning in those tags, I'd certainly behave ;)
