Vista internet speed

Well, since I haven't actually had vista installed before, I thought I would take the plunge and download it.

It wasn't a huge mistake, but vista does have its bugs/pains.

Although, I found one huge advantage of using Vista over XP, amazing eh?

It seems as though I can get almost DOUBLE my download speed. Before, I was downloading on this computer at about 350-400kb/s a second at full load (3 meg connection on this computer) but now I can get up to 575-625kb/s a second and thats with a 15kb/s upload, while in XP I could only have 10kb/s.

I know that Vista was written for high speed internet, while XP was still written for dial-up.

Is there anything I can do about the connection speed in XP?

If not, then I am going to keep vista for downloading and go to XP for everything else.

Thanks for any help.

I like the graphics too, but my heart is with XP. I've used it for so long! :D

I don't want to learn how to do everything I've done on here on Vista.
Anyways, get a download manager. I use Free Download Manager. It makes my downloads up to like 4mb some times.

Sorry to gravedig an old topic, but I have an update.

After Formatting ALL of my HDDs and re-installing Vista and XP, I have found the difference is not there anymore. XP now gets 600kb/s, too.

Maybe it is because I installed a newer version of XP (TinyXP Apps Edition) instead of the previous version which was SP1 with internet update to SP2 (A legit copy)

Or it could be that the previous version of XP made me use a USB cable from my Modem directly connected to it because I couldn't find drivers for my ethernet. Now, I am using the Ethernet connection. (Is USB 2.0 really half the speed of ethernet?)

Whatever it is I have one word of advice to all:

Always use a good quality Ethernet cable and google some tutorials on increasing network speed (shortening main input cable if on Cable high speed internet, use high quality internet components)

I think that Vista is Ok, but I do not like that some advantages what was in XP are gone, like old help system.
