Hey there Srl-ians. I am going to be getting a ps3 when it comes out. And since it will come with a HD, I thought I might as well install linux on it, so I was wondering how hard it would be to somehow get scar to work on linux systems? I know java will work, but I want to use scar with the turbo fast proccesor  . Help please !

If Kaitnieks could run Kylix and compile SCAR's source through that, I'm pretty sure it would work. I've seen no difference between code in Delphi and in Kylix (although I have not done all TOO much studying on Kylix), but I'm not sure how components will react. I still think if Kait got his hands on a Kylix compiler, he could basically copy and paste :p

He couldn't copy and paste. Kylix may have the same IDE, but if you have delphi code that uses code unique to Windows, it won't work. And SCAR uses many many Windows API functions…
Kait would have to do a bit of work learning linux substitutes. And even if he already knows his way around linux, he'd have a lot of work to do simply implementing the substitutes.
So it's hardly worth the effort I think… but that's up to kait.

Plus, you would need to add the windows library files to run it on linux.

You could try to put Xandros on PS3. It is Linux, but with the needed Windows files (basicly a hybrid ;))

Have a look and see if you like it. I'm gonna buy it soon….

I was thinking about the windows stuff some time after I posted. I know that most of what happens is from messages, and heck if I know how all of that works on Linux :p

Aren't there some Windows emulators?

Yes but they are very slow…

I have an odd solution…

FREAKING USE WINDOWS!!! -_-

And if you wish to have linux as an option, just install a boot loader and put whatever the hell you want on it.
Don't understand why ppl go through all this trouble to use windows apps on other platforms… lol :o

Problem is, Windows was built under a x86 architechture, So therefor it will not work on PPE cpu's. On the other hand linux is designed to be used with either ;)

Strange… Sony's president is saying that Windows will have no probs…
http://www.gamespot.com/news/6152519.html

A quote from an interview with the president:
Kutaragi: Linux is legacy, but it will be a start. In the case of the Cell, operation systems are applications. The kernel will be running on the Cell, and multiple OSes will be running on top of that as applications. Of course, the PS3 can run Linux. If Linux can run, so can Lindows. Other PC Operating Systems can run too, such as Windows and Tiger (Max OS X 10.4), if the publishers want [them] to do so. Maybe a new OS might come out.

It adds "if the publishers want [them] to do so", which is odd… so I think it's just a translation overlook from my source because several other places I see (including the gamespot link above) are saying Windows, along with most other OSs, will run with no probs.

Heh, ya.. that wouldn't be too hard until you got to the OCR part. :P
But I'll assume you were being sarcastic since using getPixelColor for everything would be slow as all hell. And even if it could manage it in the same manner as win api, it's still at a huge speed disadvantage not being compiled. Unless you're once of those JIT compilin' maniacs.

BWAHAHA… "maniac" always makes me laugh.
ermm.. anyhow… OffTopic.Free;

yea, I was being mostly sarcastic, it does "sound easy" though ;)
