Anyone think this would be a good idea to every once in a while (like every 2 months) nominate a SRL Dev and be able to nominate members also.

I think you might want to reconsider that, it is an interesting discussion though;

There must be around 10 other SRL members that can do that. Also, there is a function call ThereIsFire, I do believe by Fawki that works fine.

The devs get promoted as Admins see they should and that's a good idea plus bullzeye pretty much everybody uses that style now ;).

The ever 2 months member should be considered though.

Well anyone can apply for dev. I dont see why two months should be into it. Its not like we choose them. You just apply, and we choose whether to let you in. Unless you mean every two months the dev you vote for HAS to get accepted asa a dev. Then no. Otherwise this thread is pointless.

There is a SSRL section to the forums that is invisible to non SSRL Members (just like this section and the dev section). Non SSRL members do not know who the SSRL members are, this is kept secret so that non SSRL members can not bother the SSRL members, or ask them for anything. SSRL is invitation only, where other SSRL members suggest and vote on who to invite. There is no way to apply, or even know if you are being considered. As I said before, people apply for devship, and they are also invited without applying. If you are not an SSRL member, don't bother applying for devship, and you won't be invited, as we pick devs from SSRL group (hasn't happened yet).

SSRL has tried to remain totally secret, even its existence, but a couple non SSRL members knew about it, and theres no harm in saying it exists if the rest of the secrecy is upheld.

Do not ask to be considered for SSRL.
Do not ask if you have been considered for SSRL.
Do not ask who is in SSRL.
Do not ask what it takes to be in SSRL.
Do not ask what content or privileges SSRL members get.
Do not tell non SRL members that SSRL even exists.
Basically do not talk about SSRL ever, just know that there is a step between SRL member and SRL dev.

The objective here people is not to say wow, I've never heard of SSRL. You've failed the test! :p You aren't supposed to give people a clue who is in the group, and who isn't, so don't say if you say you haven't heard about it, that means you aren't in it, unless you are just faking people out :p

I guess it is an Honor here, to carry the rank of Dev, however, ANYONE….member or not, is allowed to create any functions/procedures that will be beneficial to the development of SCAR and SRL and post them…Obviously, if you can demonstrate your talents, you better your chances…but I ask everyone this rhetorical question….since any update..What is the longest time period that SCAR/SRL has been rendered useless….hours ?…rather minutes…..it seems as the Devs here have it covered as of the moment…Of course everyone is always looking for ways to improve efficiency, etc…..If you have an idea for improvement, by all means share it….

As far as nominating people for SRL Member's Status…while invitations have been extended to people in the past without them applying, it was my understanding, that it was discussed here first, or came straight from the top..Fakawi…I don't see any reason that we need to "meet a quota", in handing out free status every couple of months, rather, if their actions are worthy, they will be recognized….if you feel they are not, perhaps personal message the person you are considering and urge them to apply as a member….chances are, they have their own reasons for not applying in the first place, if they haven't already….

Although I did send a pm to fakawi about 5 months earlier telling him if they needed any extra help (after the RoadColor update,) I would be glad to fill in. I don't think I was even considered at that point..

Unfortunaylu, i think this is a horible idea, and im completly against it.

It kinda like reinstating a rep system, which has been disabled for very good reasons.

It removes some of the need, and some of the desire to learn to script properly, and to learn all the standards and stuff. ("i can get in without an app" , "I can get in without learning to script")

It is like saying that the people you know are more important than if you know how to script. This is not a social forum, it is a srl script forum.

It encorrages more cheating and other ways to sneak into this community, i dont like having a purly vote based system, the masses are rediculously stupid.

There have been many discussions of doing this and it is not going to happen… If you look at someone like RsN, with about 40 posts, he was still a HUGE benefit to the SRL include, so post count doesn't matter for the devs. The devs are never going to be cleaned up…

As for the members getting cleaned up, Boreas say's he bans leaching members when he's bored :p But most of the people who are members that can't script are members because they were here before SRL went private.

I dont think they system is going to change.

Anyone can apply to become a Dev, all existing devs will vote on if they think that person is skilled enough to be one. If there is a decent Yes:No ratio, that person becomes a dev. Dev spot can be invite from an existing dev and poll, or request from the member who wants to become the dev and poll.

Anyone can already apply to become a SRL member. We have a place where certain people can decide whether non members should become members based on their attitudes if they dont have any scripting skills anyways. (E.G when we SRL-membered Mjordan)

Pyro is right it isn't a rule to be SSRL member before being a dev. But there is a 99.999% chance that if you are skilled enough to be close to being a dev, you have already been noticed and invited to SSRL.

I was assuming that SSRL was to do with longevity, not skills…Developers are to do with skill/attitude..

If you want some one to consider something than just tell them, how is that any different than nominating?

I mean, are people actually going to have an advantage if say, an admin 'nominated' them?

Just send them a PM suggesting to apply for 'membership' or apply for 'devoplership', how is that any different?

Let's not forget the idea of 'nominating' people is very outdated and is only used today for traditional purposes, we'd have no reason to replace a working system with an outdated one, hence why it hasn't been done yet instead what I suggested above.
