I got mine once in the C: but then made by C: protected by anti-virus to monitor anything going in there and anything with the keywords UID or Jagex is killed :D

It can be in the following places:
Part 1: "c:/rscache/", "/rscache/", "c:/windows/", "c:/winnt/", "c:/", "/tmp/", ""
Part 2: ".jagex_cache_32", ".jagex_cache_34"
add part 1 to part 2 eg. c:/rscache/.jagex_cache_32

I doubt jagex put it there, unless they recently changed the coding in the client then its not possible.
just search all files n folders for UID.dat and delete everything it finds. You can take 10 seconds out of your life to make sure your character doesnt get banned.

This is old news..
JageX tends to rename folders when you 'mess' in their old one..
Afaik there are 5 folders.
After making 5 write protected they either give up or do something else..
I still got my .jagex_cache_32, so I can keep track off what they put on my hard disk + manage my uid.dat.

Yah, for mine, its been there for a long time. If you delete it, it won't come back until you mess with the one in the WINDOWS folder then it moves that one out into the C:\ and makes a new one in WINDOWS

If you have vista, and delete the folder in C:\Windows, then it will appear in the C:\Users\<your name> folder. Just thought i might want to get that out there. =]

IIRC there is no windows specific code in RS, to determine your username and stuff (for your my documents), im pretty sure that require windows specific code.

If you modify anything in the file is moves it to the C:\ out of C:\WINDOWS and makes a new one in C:\WINDOWS
