Under spam attack by jagex..

Ok, I don't have too much evidence, just a good hunch. It seems that we are under a spam attack from either jagex, or another community that doesn't like us very much.
Why do I think this?

1. C4rl1t0 saying jagex has a virus
2. I forget, but I know that there have at least been 3 instances that I have noticed.

What are the similarities? An unknown new commer, asking a few question about scar so he looks legit, and then claiming that his virus program found a problem in it.

More then that… I think that some of our upper levels are involved in this too (judging by their strange supporting comments)

What can you do/ why did I bother posting this?
  1. I want you all to be more aware of strange and misleading posts
  2. Squash any false accusations quickly before people start believing that crap
  3. Perhaps edit their posts so google doesn't associate scar=virus
  4. make your post more eye catching then theirs, noobs may just read the title line and assume its true
  5. Maybe do a few IP traces in your spare time.

Edit: 500th post

I'm not so sure that it is Jagex, my guess is it's legit players tired of all the macroing by RSDemon and are coming here because they think SCAR is the culprit then posting that it is a virus.

Or maybe SCAR is just being detected as a virus?

It was the scar browser that returned true as virus in some scanners.
Freddy is going to recode it..
But it's true that some virusscanners return such a warning.

Yea legit runescape players/ Jagex aren't smart enough to try an idea like that :f:

Ok, good point. I change it to jagex and thier evil henchmen. Also, there is a popular ofsite distribution of "scar+srl" that is trojaned.

mabey a bigger sticky? lol

When summer break starts kids play RS more. A couple weeks into the break they get bored. You do the math.

I seriously doubt that jagex would resort to petty spam attacks and false accusations. It is: a) not efficient
b) quite pathetic really…

and i also think they know full well about RSdemon, SCAR you name it…its their game, big brother is watching ;)

Perhaps so. Then it is someone else, mabey angry rs people, mabey another community.

We still need to keep and eye out and quickly stop this stuff.

..but why?

so what if some people think SCAR has a virus…less leechers. What other community dosent like SRL?

Stop being paranoid :p

I was just about to post that. AVG finds a virus in SCAR so new people actually thing that scar is a virus. Freddy must have done something to make SCAR look like a trojan

SCAR's always triggered one virus scanner or another…

Even 2.03 sets off my AVG.

Yeah, i may be paraniod.

But i still don't want people thinking scar is a virus, or that ignorance spreading around.

thats just logical, and stuff like that, although less leachers, is ultimately harmfull to the community.

Paranoid or not, I hold the point I made at the top.

Most likely there's just more people finding this site because it's summer and people are more interested about macroing.. But there's nothing you can do about stupid people.

yeah, i know, im just concerned about the potential harm of virus propoganda.

Such as…?

Less leechers?

LordGregGreg

2007-07-24 13:10:23

yes. but im loking more at the long run. Less leachers = less use = less people learning to program = potential death of srl.

we need leachers to keep this alive

we really need the leacher who become members

Leechers aren't the one who want to learn how to program.

i was a leecher for about a year before i decided to learn to script scar style.
