Yes those can have viruses in, of course.

Yup they can, as soon as you open/mount the ISO anyfile inside it is capable of being a virus. And yes I agree why did you post this in the member's news section?

Is there a way to check for viruses?
I posted it here because members don't have a general forum, and the public one is way down there and responses are generally slow, lol.
Yea members really need a General Section.
What you can do is extract the ISO with winRAR or such then scan it.
That will work :D

Run it through a virus scanner?
An iso can have a virus on it, but it can't infect your computer unless you mount it (or burn it to a disk, then run whatever's on the disk)
If it's an OS, just install it, then install something like NOD32 or AVG Free and do a complete scan.

Hmm…interesting…
Happen to know what it's called (the virus), or have an example?
I wouldn't mind seeing how they do that… (only so I could secure my own system, of course)

When installing winrar(
www.rarlabs.com), it has an option to work on ISOs, if you check it, you can extract ISOs to see the content's, obviously no real help but you can check if it has supicious batch or exe files.

I wish i rmeebered the name sorry. I think it was able to grab onto part of windows indexing operations, or perhaps even when windows read the basic info data about it. Somehow used that to load itself into memorie. No doubt that windows fixed it by now…but hakors will still find a way im sure.

Ahh I think I know *basically* what it did
Thanks; even though my system's no more secure, I'm a little worthier of my name

WinRAR can extract the contents of an ISO, right?
Just extract them then scan them?

Yep yep, i cant think of a few ways to stop it… and then a few more ways to make it work again :) lol.
besides, the only thinkg that makes an "iso" file special is the ".iso" at the end of it. Most virus iso files wont really have any iso content what so ever!

Impossible, you need to run it for it to be active. Things on your computer just dont start up when they feel like it, there has to be a registry entry that is called to start it. Why do you think the people who make the things put so much effort into making them look legit, and make you want to open them.

The Claw is rite, thats like downloading a random .exe, then without running it because it looks risky it puts viruses onto yoru computer. That would be amazing.

You could always format your windows drive and install linux, then live thegoodd life without cares because out of the 300,000 new viruses every year not 1% of them effect linux or mac osx

Yes, but Linux and mac osx are
'non-SCAR-compatible'….

This is true, but you could always setup a VirtualbOX OR VMWare and probably run multi scars with the TinyXP he was downloading. Just use it for scar and whocares if it gets a virus since it would be contained to the guest OS
Scar Divi works with Wine on Linux. :D
