Yet another UID Cleaner

Yeah, I know what you're saying. Another badly written batch file to delete the UID. For the most part you're right, but this one blanks the file and sets it to read-only. With the way the client works currently, the UID should never need to be touched again.

Not responsible if you get IP flagged, although I have had no problems.

That's just a disclaimer line :p.

Setting uid.dat to read-only shouldn't cause any issues with flagging. From a security standpoint, Jagex shouldn't even be writing to the system directory. The fact that security allows them to store the cache there is ridiculous. I've had my uid.dat set to read only for months and I haven't had a ban since.

People tend to speculate too much, and one of these speculations is "read-only will flag you." I have yet to see this proven. Strict security policy would probably be a legitimate excuse. It's your system directory, they have no business putting a system-wide tracking file in there.

If anyone has an anecdote to the contrary, though, I'm willing to hear it.

It seems they have multiple places they save files in your file store…. maybe we should make it a new requirement to script for unsigned?

Besides, is it even possible for them to check to see if your making your files read only?

That's actually pretty cool. I like the idea of Read Only!

This wont work if i am understanding you correctly.

"Blanks the file", do you mean you delete the contents of uid.dat? then make it read-only?

If so, RS will create a new uid.dat file in another location that it can read/write to.

I think a better way is a UID injector.
