Runescape script system

Hello guys,

Today I would like to talk about a certain topic that I heard on the livestream like a few weeks ago and it had me thinking.

For the people that saw the stream few weeks ago, might know that Mod Mat K was talking about a script system where they could know when a player runs a certain script and how many times the player runs the script.

On the other hand I was thinking, lets check a player that is woodcutting without any anti-ban. So the script would be like :

WalkToTree()
Woodcut() - > script log
WalkToBank()
UseBank() - > script log
and repeat…

Now I made a logger on my private server so I could test the result, here it is [REMINDER THIS IS VERY BASIC]:

If a player does this for days and days and the top pushed script is 90% of the total scripts can we flag this account and assume we have a botter?

Let me know what you think in the comments.

Assuming you mean each time the player interacts with the game in some way it's logged on the server and that's used to determine botters, the answer is definitively no; there are plenty of legitimate players who do nothing but, say, chop ivy or mine seren stones all day, or throw logs on a bonfire etc. because they're going for 99/master cape/200m. If this method was applied to them, they'd be banned in a few days for doing the same thing constantly.

Well most players tend to farm runs, chat with players and some other human stuff, so there is a difference there.

Also i'm more leaning towards Oldschool runescape as this was mention on their livestream.

Farm runs only happen every few hours (every hour and twenty minutes-ish for herb runs); it's still going to end up being less than 5-10% of the total inputs in that time period, most likely. I just did 99 mining at Seren stones and *nobody* talked, so unless they're chatting in a CC/whatever and not just doing something else and mining in the background, I doubt that'll be a significant portion either (though I'm sure there are some people who do do that).

And even for OSRS, I can't see them saying anyone who's grinding and only grinding is botting.

I know what you're trying to say here, sombody that grinds is not a bot and I agree with that, but if you think about how goldfarmers go to work, they make a fresh account and the first thing they start to do is woodcutting, after that they woodcut more, after a week all they did is woodcutting, so we can be sure that 90% of the scripts run is woodcutting, let's say jagex flags this account, they will check the logs of this account and if they find a pattern in the logs (Like I showed above) than they can start monitoring the account or even giving it a 2 day ban like they do now.

And lets be honest here there's only a handfull of players that actually do the same exact thing over and over again for days/weeks

But that handful of players still exists, and I don't think any system Jagex puts in place is going to err on the side of banning botters, rather than on the side of caution.

This is true. However, with Jagex's way of dealing with macros being a "we're 100% right so we won't even respond to you or read your appeals" it would be exceedingly unprofessional (even though their current system is pretty egregious) to not air on the side of extreme caution as you could imagine how unfairly screwed someone would be if they had gotten it wrong…

If they were to put a system in place that does err on the side of banning botters, they'd have to actually get a support system as well as totally rework their macro / rwt / other bad offense policy and obviously we know that will never happen, although pretty much every other game has one that is more reasonable than jagex's.
