Shared Vs VPS Hosting

Hey guys!

So I'm looking to purchase hosting for a site on which I'll be running Wordpress.

Wanted to get your opinions on Shared vs VPS hosting.
Also, if I do go the VPS route, how would a beginner go about getting someone to setup LAMP, install Wordpress, making it point to my URL etc. ?

After doing some research it seems unanimous that VPS hosing allows for more control and customization, and seem to be the way to go for 'serious' sites.
Another big plus also seems to be the ability to 'run custom scripts' what exactly does that mean?
I'm trying to see if this is something I'd ever need to utilize.

Q: VPS vs Shared Hosting, why?
Q: How/where would I go about finding people to help me do all of the initial setup (Terminal stuff, LAMP, installing Wordpress)?
Anyone here interested in helping getting me setup on a VPS?

apache is garbage, definitely don't go lamp lel

I don't use mysql either.. but I think wordpress only uses that (not that wordpress is good nor fast in the first place)

Neither are the way to go for "serious" sites, dedicated is not enough for most serious sites.. they need multiple dedicated servers.

A simple wordpress site will work on either. I'd go VPS as you can install your own webserver / control your own stuff.. a lot of shared also have database downtime randomly and wordpress being driven fully by database means your whole site goes down when db does

I have nginx compile instructions somewhere on my site main page too

I've never had downtime on my shared server its database.

VPS <- basically your own computer
Dedicated <- your own computer
shared <- what the name suggests

With vps you can install whatever you like. A lot more freedom and options, basically it is better. But note that it does cost more usually.

e:
You can install apache on windows and check if you like it ;) Not as a solution of course, but for try out.

I use this
http://www.online.net/en/dedicated-server/dedibox-scg2
justin uses this
http://www.kimsufi.com/us/en/

VPS = Virtual rescources allocation
Dedi = real resource allocation

I think shared is that you get a container to work with - usually cheaper but less versatile
VPS installs faster

And in respect to your monetisation attitude, I will help you for sexual/ monetary favours.(serious)

Edit, @masterBB

Doesnt htaccess override fail on windows

Just to clarify, @YoHoJo;, you want to host a wordpress website, and thats it? You dont need a vps/anything like that. Just a simple webhost with access to an SQL Db will work.
