[OGL] FPS issues

So, it's apparently normal for there to be FPS issues with OGL, but my questions are…

1. How often can you bot before getting serious FPS issues? I've noticed I can bot around 1-2 hours or until I log/lobby, use a lodestone/teleport or stop and start the script again.
2. What causes this?
3. What do you normally do to fix this?
4. Whats your computer specs (ex. graphics card, RAM, cpu, etc. etc…)

I've changed the memory usage for Java to 10GB, I've changed the priority level of Java as well (neither of these appeared to of had an effect). Obscurity mentioned part of the reason was AMD drivers have more issues. That being said, if you could share not only your answers but your PC specs as well that'd be appreciated!

@Obscurity

I've personally never encountered OGL fps issues, nor do I know about graphics cards/drivers and their comparative interactions with the plugins, so I can't really answer any of your questions.

I remember encountering some slowdowns before Brandon updated the plugins, but those were slight, and would only occur when you moved around between areas and/or hopped worlds constantly. Pretty much anytime I run OGL scripts nowadays, they are at a constant ~40-50 fps rate.

FPS does slow down however with an increase in client dimensions. Try scaling down your client size.

I'm running a MacBook using Windows on Bootcamp, with integrated graphics. So I don't even have a card. I guess I have lucked out because everyone seems to complain about fps issues that I never see :p

I'm still out of town, but I might be able to TeamViewer my PC later to show you what causes it.

@Clarity; thanks for the response I might be moving to a mac, @Obscurity; Teamviewer may be out of the question, as well as all of this may be irrelevant. I woke up got on my PC and it froze up on me, had to hard reset and now it won't launch due to a registry error. Might be stuck reformating as I'm pretty sure I don't have any backups set. That being said…may be getting a new machine soon! Suggestions on that would be awesome.

I hope you aren't moving to a Mac just to use OGL on windows bootcamp :p
I'm sure Obscurity will be able to give a better explanation than my random anecdotal evidence.

The best fix is to have a smaller client size, in my experience, and have no other graphics-intensive programs running.
For instance, I will have an FPS on a god wars script or slayer at about ~30, and then I will close my browser and it will shoot back up to 50.

Lol sorry that was intended to be sarcasm, I absolutely hate Macs. Obscurity's been pm'ing me, sounds like its a graphics card issue (could also be due to my dual screen with my crappy card as well). Was hoping my Laptop wasn't AMD….but it is :(

I've managed to force my FPS down to very low (sub 10) by running a bunch of GPU intensive applications at the same time, and find that scripts, if well written, execute just fine regardless of FPS. In my opinion, FPS isn't much of an issue if you're botting. Things are still happening online regardless of whether they are properly rendering onto your screen for you to see as a human. Clicks and other commands sent to the servers still register fine.

Sure, it might not look great, but it's a bot, and is still getting the job done :p

Highly advanced combat scripts, a la Vorago + QBD might require more updated FPS, but simpler scripts like God Wars and whatnot certainly don't require high FPS to run smoothly.

but the whole thing is like 8 inches by 8 inches by 2.5 inches
its an intel i5, 16gb ddr3
has an intel 240gb SSD
its lightning fast.
the chassis is a dell 790 USFF (ultra small form factor)
its an intel i5 quad core.
no gfx just onboard gfx

Sorry was just copying the chat I received from a co-worker. What do you guys think of the specs? @Obscurity; @Clarity;

Clarity - normally, yes reducing the game size would help. However, with this issue, it'll only very slightly reduce the speed at which the FPS drops. It will still drop. You remember the whole model buffer conversation. :-P.

Will post more once I get some more free time.

For anyone have FPS issues (FPS gradually falls):

  • Back-up your current GLX/OpenGL32.dll.
  • Download this plugin.
  • In the bin folders of the ZIP you downloaded, you'll find the relative dll files.
  • Place those in your Plugins folder.
  • In Includes/ogLib/lib/core/core.simba, search and comment out any functions including glxSetTimeout(.
  • Play RuneScape for a few minutes, keeping an eye on the yellow debug text - buffer count.

Dat.
