I used the search and found some threads asking how to use socks 5 proxies with smart but had no resolution. Anyone have an idea on how to do this or have done it successfully already? Thanks.

There is no native proxy support for SMART.

Oh no! Is there any way to bot with a proxy?

To my knowledge, you'd have to use a third-party application. There is one I know of called ProxyCap that will allow you to tunnel specific applications through a proxy server. Turpinator mentioned it in a post that I can no longer find.
SMART is a Java application, and, as such, will accept certain command-line arguments when launching.
Brandon made a post here about the ones used to set a proxy. However, I'm almost positive that these don't work as expected and will prevent SMART from spawning.

Oh, this is sad. Would it be hard to modify Smart to allow proxies? Many other clients have it and private proxies are very common nowadays.

I'm not sure what you mean. How would Tor be helpful here?

Tor can be configured to tunnel only specific applications, much like ProxyCap or similar programs. The main difference would be that you're using the Tor network rather than a simple SOCKS5 proxy.

Tunneling through Tor would mean that jagex would see multiple IPs logged in my account. Even in one session I would be requesting packets from different IPs. Not a good idea and possibly flat out impossible.
