and I've always said just use an auto imgur updater

good example of why

I've always used Shutter (with an Imgur plugin).

It's a teeny bit slower than auto-uploaders like puush/ShareX/Greenshot/Gyazo (for puush users looking for a new service - those are good) but the editing power you have over your screenshots is second-to-none.

It's a shame this virus targeted puush, and they can't really be blamed because only the Windows client was effected. I'd count that as a fault of Windows rather than puush. They're really a very nice service and I used them for a long time on my Windows machine. I will continue to use them once I get my Windows machine back up and running.

Not this guy, Imgur represent. Interesting news in any case.

Luckily my computer was off during the 3 hour window where the malicious updates were getting sent out. Decided to uninstall puush and give ShareX a try.

I understand that windows has a fair amount of issues, but it seems a little much to blame Windows and not Puush. It was puush's server that was made to puush (heh) the malware update, which the user has agreed to trust when they installed the program on their computer. What windows might be able do however (and it might even be possible right now, idk) is more fine controls on what an installed program can do (So you could disable auto-updating or anything else you don't want)

I've always used Lightshot since 2011. The mechanics on how to take a screenshot's so much easier than puush, it's just like using that "snipping tool" Windows users got, but you can edit it out before uploading it(Add some text, highlights, arrows etc.) with just a press of the prt scr button.

Same here. Never had a reason to use puush since lightshot is imo so much better

yea there are tons of imgur apps, many auto upload ones and many ones where you can edit first.. select sections of screen etc

puush sucks because any service that hijacks direct links to images and puts you on their bad web page, even if it doesn't have ads.. is still bad. tinypic, imageshack, etc.

direct links are direct for a reason.

puush uses direct links.

And idk if they've changed, but lightshot used to be one of the bad ones (at least when RJJ used it, always sent me links like this: http://prntscr.com/6nyxaf)

I'm using gyazo, but huh. Botnet incoming!!1!1 you could hav prevented this!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wondering whether or not other stuff's affected, might switch to imgur's auto uploader. Gonna try out ShareX. It's open source so that's a definite plus.

god there is nothing wrong with lightshot and it's not one of the 'bad ones'. All you have to do is copy and paste the link into this simba script: https://villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=107371 and then copy and paste the output into your URL and press enter the script opens the webpage for you, the script writer was really thinking ahead on that one. 'But rj, couldn't you just go to the lightshot link and copy and image URL yourself so we don't have to see the ads?' No, that's way too much work to upload a screenshot and there aren't 'too many ads'

ShareX
by ShareX
ShareX is an open source program that lets you take screenshots or screencasts of any selected area with a single key, save them in your clipboard, hard disk or instantly upload them to over 30 different file hosting services (defaults to imgur).

True Guardians of the Galaxy right here. Loving how it's the ONLY Open Source one on the whole page, lel.
To anyone using closed source stuff, have fun being the NSA's guinea pigs. Don't tell me I didn't warn you!
