Detecting Summoning Familiar?

I've been trying to write a nature graahk script, but I'm having trouble looking into the future and working out how to resummon a graahk. I took a brief look at a different runecrafting script, but I'm pretty sure it just wrote a function called familiarExpired which detected for the DTM of "Your familiar has X amount of time left" in chat multiple times throughout the main loop, but it just seemed waaay too complicated (and I'm too lazy to implement it). I'm also not sure if refilling summoning points is even required to resummon familiars, but there is a small summoning obelisk on the way to the altar so that won't be a problem.

Current ideas:
 • DTM for the little wolf icon
 • Use a similar "familiarExpired" method, but have a timer set up to guess when the familiar will expire and to increase efficiency.
 • Have the summoning interface kept up and detect when it goes away
 • ??

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

A DTM of the boost icon would probably the best combination of easiest & most reliable. If you wanted to get really fancy, you could use Tesseract to read the exact number of minutes left.

Is the time exactly the same each time you spawn a familiar? Why not just start a timer when you summon one?

Different familiars last for different amounts of time, and iirc if you're out of summoning points, you can't summon any at all.

I would check out this post by Clarity, I modify his checkFamiliar function all the time when I want to add summoning to a script that doesn't have it yet:

You do need to refill summoning points to resummon creatures. Not sure which script you looked at, but my mud runes script + the divination post linked above all use the wolf icon to determine what to do, not the red text. I saw no need to use the red text when the number within the wolf icon gives you an actual time remaining anyway (use tesseract in color, or glChars in OGL).

Having a more accurate time allows you to use the renew pouch option rather than new familiar - but it's all up to you.

Good luck with your script :)

OK thanks guys! I think I'll just combine part of Clarity's code along with the timer suggestion from Mayor. I'll probably just have the bot carry a graahk pouch at all times for simplicity's sake.

If your grahk script does pouch repairs with a separate preset (like Clarity's mud runes) I would suggest maybe adding a grahk pouch and a summoning pot to it and calling it when your familiar dies / you want to renew it instead of just always having the pouch with you.
