perm ban today

I got perm banned today on OSRS. I was botting for around a week, (somewhat quest and a 2 month old account).

I was using SMART.

It's weird how the account using smart got banned but the account using the browser has not. (under same I.P). Can't make any conclusions as they are training different skills with different scripts.

The scripts were private (expect for a few procedures).

If it's the same script on the same IP at the same time (I assume they were running the same time?), it might be safe to say the account that got banned was simply unlucky. Perhaps you had someone come along and report that account, which may or may not kick on a much more thorough bot-detection to monitor the account. Or it may be that account was in the wrong place at the wrong time and was manually banned, or it just got stuck doing something a normal human wouldn't, which has gotten me banned in flash. But I'd say it wasn't due to an automatic detection given the circumstance.

Is this really true? What if I did it on purpose?

My qbd bot got banned after being stuck for 4 hours yesterday :( as many other bots iv seen messing up. Well you can always perform ridiculous actions to get banned but they must be bottish enough and for prolonged periods of time. For example 15 minutes humanclicking trying to attack monster over door you wont get banned. But 1 hour clickling with autoclicked 100%. Actually i believe in majority not the ridiculous actions you were doing over and over give you up but those action timing. As actions occur very rapidly during short periods of time and gives enormous amount data to botwatch. Since for example my bot did spammclicking 4 hours it did ridiculous amount of clicking without any breaks, slowing down or anything, no matter it was random times but provided more than enough data to ban. Also for example you get stuck at banking in qbd bot. Normally you bank every 20 minutes or so, but if you stuck you bank twice per minute atleast. In a hour of banking you give more data than in a week of actual botting+jagex sees you stuck on a loop. Have had bans of only worldhopping with simba script constantly whole day without doing anything before lol. So either jagex tries to search for infinity loops players performing or most of srl users get banned cause of bad worldhopping function.

Also doing ridiculous or repeating for example same function twice every trip like banking just after bank(this happened for me cause main bank function gave false fail and used failsafe banking afterwards)for long times, it atleast highlights you to a manual check or whatever they do but basicly bots who did this for more than 30+times got banned.

Actually you can always try to get ban playing legit. But since you human, you have fatigue factor it prolly wont get you banned unless yur stamina is very great.

I'll try to correct what Flight meant: "or it just got stuck doing something a normal human COULDN'T, which has gotten me banned in flash."

The antibot system won't ban you for something a human wouldn't do, but rather something a human couldn't do. :p

Wouldn't. My auto-fighter script got stuck behind a door in the Stronghold of Security once, by missclick, and tried attacking an NPC it could not reach. I caught the script within minutes of this, fixed it, and continued. The account was banned the same day. A human wouldn't try to attack a NPC behind a closed gate or door.

I don't think botwatch cares what the bot is trying to do just that it does in perfect intervals that none human could, then again script I was recently running got stuck on something and kept clicking non stop but did not get banned, so who knows really how it works.

This is of course open to debate, but I'd be willing to bet botwatch doesn't detect this type of behavior. If I recall correctly I've seen J-Mods say that it's impossible for a human player to get banned for macroing, even if they attempt to act like a bot. It only detects patterns, or tasks a human simply couldn't perform. When you got banned it was probably because the script somehow made a pattern whilst being stuck behind the wall.

Just as an example: 2 years ago RiD wrote a bot but abandoned it in alpha stage. It still works but it has extremely limited functionality. It doesn't rotate the camera, it looks like it doesn't have anti-ban implemented, all it does is make mousemovements to certain targets. There are 20-30 people with access to the bot and it hasn't gotten anyone banned, even with 30+ hour runs. The bot acts in a way a normal human being wouldn't but it doesn't get anyone banned.

I only bring this up as an example to back up my theory, hopefully it sheds some info about the botwatch system.

I put some thought to this before and pretty sure it's wrong. I mean for one do you imagine a universe that J-mod admits that they have a flawed bot detection system? ;) Secondly there's an appeal system, why have it? They know their system is not perfect hence they use appeals as some form of double checking.

Haha I agree that J-Mods do talk a lot of bullshit, but they rarely talk about botwatch because anything they give up could give away how it works and in turn benefit bot makers.
They did say botwatch won't ban a legit player though, ever, and I believe that's a true statement after my own botting experiences.

Just my 2cents :)

Maybe the bot just got stuck, maybe you run 2 accounts on the same ip. Maybe you got reported, who knows…
