Hey guys I was just wondering which one do you prefer? and why

For running bots? Dedicated. Preferrably one that you own, even better if it's set up in a location you have access to.

Virtual servers are just virtualized operating systems running on a host server. As a result, the effective performance of a virtual server is lower & they also might not have access to essential hardware (i.e. a graphics card)

but wouldn't dedicated servers be more expensive/harder to set up?

More expensive, yes. But you get what you pay for.

Harder to set up, in a lot of ways no because you have complete control over the machine and what happens to it, whereas when using a virtual server you're restricted to the virtualized platform

Depends on the connection type. If it's static, then you can't change it. If it's dynamic, then you can.

Generally, since it's a server, you wouldn't want to change the IP. There's also no reason to do so if you're running bots - Jagex doesn't ban account in basis of IP

Woah! thanks for your input, I always though they did ban on the basis of IP

They do not do bans based upon IP. Dedicated servers are going to give you a better band for your buck, they give you a larger amount of control over the machine, also this is a big one for me, you do not rely on the host reseller to do any major system changes to them. I suggest them highly, however I only use them when I farm on larger armies. I much prefer a personal machine that I can leave on at my house.

What's the biggest army you have ran on a single server? if not a secret ^^

On my main server when I first bought it I could get around 60 bots going with simba, so probably way more with other clients
It's no longer in a state where anything rs or java related would work on it, nor is any of that junk on there.. so no idea now.

as said VPS aren't going to be setup with vfio passthrough with KVM/qemu & a dedicated GPU per instance of a VM.. therefore you're.. at best, going to have an integrated gpu or maybe none cuz all text based

meaning more computing done by cpu and no gpu to offload

a dedicated, ideally, would have a gpu to offload as much of the graphics stuff as possible… that's the "ideal" world
one you build, if that is where you would want to go with this.. would of course be the optimal && "best" setup for your specific needs & your budget

Why not just have a bomb ass PC and run them there? whats the difference between having a dedicated server/PC for botting?

some don't want to leave their main machine running or whatever
not really any difference, if you were botting for money to pay your bills you'd probably have a few machines & bot on your main machine as well

only real reason is some are scared the IP is the same, or don't have the money right off to buy a new machine so they rent one

You could have a very expensive pc and say run a bunch of VMs on it with different proxies
but that requires a lot of upfront costs and can tie down your use of the pc for personal things

a VPS is very low upfront cost ( like $4-7 a month per bot iirc, maybe lower if you buy more bulk server resources)

Well for it depends how many account you going to run, for me vps is good because i only have like 10 account farming more then 10-20+ would dedi be great but more expensive

Dedicated server as it gives me much more control, I use it for other things as well as botting.

Dedi if you have the money for it. VPS if you're looking for something cheap.
