This should be really useful to those who absolutely need that laptop and don't have enough for a gaming desktop

Or you could get a not shitty desktop for like 500 bucks and not have to worry about a laptop. Just farm about 1.6 bil and cash in

Not sure what your idea of not shitty is, but that's a pretty shit desktop

There were laptops at CES this year that showed this technology built in. Might have considered it if I had not already upgraded.

Pretty neat to have a "desktop" setup at home. Just hook up your laptop to a dock, that connects to a mouse, keyboard and external videocard and one or more monitors :)

It's not really recent But this looks relaly good, origins can be found somewhere around here http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/diy-egpu-experiences.418851/ - Thread is from 2009, there is another thread where people usually reply but that website looks broken now and most of the people that run it/the company the created the product were banned for some reason, i know Nin posts on youtube comments and helps out people now days, pretty retarded to ban them imo, i haven't used that site since they were banned lol.

Vidock really had a #$#$ price and way too expensive, wasn't worth it so people made their on DIY devices costing less than 100$ with shipping, video card cost like 60-80$, the thing about people that played on EGU was that they didn't care about graphics, they just wanted games to be playable.. But this stuff is mainly designed for express card slots (not many laptops have them).

I followed the EGPU information from the start and finally bought both the PE4L and PE4H, no regrets - my lenovo G530 laptop sucked for gaming, it couldn't run anything on even the lowest detail and i couldn't even force the games to run in wireframe (no graphics mode lol).. So i eventually added a Geforce 440 on it and my games went from being unplayable to running 30-60 FPS and being able to actually record live gameplay footage:

As you can see i found that game uniquely boring lol, i pirated a broken copy haha, i still keep both of my EGPUS (one of them still haven't even been unboxed) and my graphics card in check its there.. I don't really need it my lenovo g530 laptop broke down and i use a Lenovo y410P laptop which (if i ever play games again) can run most games at max detail without breaking a sweat.

Sooo… yeah. as samerdl said, this isnt new technology. there have been diy or pre-made solutions, but the premade ones were generally fairly expensive and werent as nice looking as this one.

Havent seen this before, any good reviews on it? Doesnt the data xfer between laptop and pcie slot get bottlenecked?
I also doubt the ac->dc transformation get's enough cooling for 200-300watt cards by the looks of it..
