does anybody here agree with jagex on this?

imo it's having the exact opposite result in all 3 categories (# of bots, gold being generated, & rwt). Seems like total bs to me. Bonds are great for me so I'm not complaining, I just find this ridiculous.

its old, they have been saying this from the start.. but its a complete lie! i've only started to gold farm again because of bonds.. i dont even have to manage money and buy memb pins.. just farm and farm and farm :)

Bonds i think help botters instead of spending irl cash to make an account a mem you can buy it with the money you make from botting. More gold is being generated because members then have access to better money making methods. More people then make more money, which increases real world trading.

yeah I know it's old, I've spoken to major goldfarmers on pbot a good amount about this (pretty much the moment the update came out), I remember chuckle came back for a good amount of time (after quitting due to the high banrates) purely due to the bonds update (imo it revitalized botting after the summer 2013 banwaves).

I'm wondering if anybody here thinks differently (agrees with jagex)

I think the logic was that bonds were "legal" RWT and so gold buyers would start purchasing bonds instead from Jagex, putting gold farmers out of business -> bots go away -> less gold.

Except they forgot ten other effects of their plan…that the black market prices are dirt cheap compared to the bonds price, and with no risk of getting caught black market RWTing,

Then, there's the obvious plus for botters in that now it's super convenient to start a farm.

Total lie. Before you was risking real cash while running gold farm, now you risk nothing basicly. Making farm of bots now is very eazy. No investment needed at all. For example i started scripting srl with arrowshafts fletching/chocholate grinding to dust scripts, made first bond, got mining up, made decent cash mining rune ore to make more rune miners, then runned 16 accounts green drags scripts. Now running 8 accounts red spider eggs + 4 accounts papayas farm :) My computer only supports 3-4 smarts so i running like every account 4-6 hours. Made few bills so far even when my green drags bots failed so much, actually i even made proffit there. Not to count few valuable account running drags got 69 summ to run papayas farm…Those accounts pays off for every account i lost at drags.

so I haven't been on in like a million years

bonds = rs gold to membership with no middle man?

that's huge "RWT" reduction in the department of trading your gold for membership.. cuz it basically destroyed that (unless someone says less gold than jagex)

I just rs wikied it

I might have to start botfarm again for lelz

imo it makes more botting because as said, you can legit trade gold for membership & not care about the account cuz it paid for itself and you didn't have to deal with "shady" characters to get your membership

I think their first point is blatantly wrong, the second one is debatable but still probably wrong, and the third one is right.

Obviously it encourages botting as there is no startup capital necessary to get mems, just bot the bond.

Not sure if less gold is being generated; however, bonds are technically a gold sink (pay gp to jagex which leaves the game). Also, there is probably some sort of equilibrium situation where more bots = lower prices so the total gold effect of bots (#bots x prices) is probably not as bad as feared. For example, now that bots have been steadily creeping back in to the game the prices of sharks have like halved since like a year ago.

On the third point, I believe that bonds actually reduce illegal RWT as it 'steals' 'business' from gold farmers/illegal RWTers, even if it may be grossly overpriced in comparison. There will always be people that prefer the safe route over the 'dangerous' route. It might not be effective, but it works at some level. Honestly Jagex should just 'bite the bullet' and sell gp, it's probably the will of Solomon eventually anyways.

I don't know about RS3 but bonds being added to OSR will reduce RWT. Currently many OSR players use goldswapping clans/fcs to get RS3 gold then buy a bond in the GE. Adding bonds to OSR will take out the goldswapping from the membership process. This reduces RWT because they're going to RWT the profit from the swap. That said, the only bots it will remove will be the ones spamming about coinswapping for bonds.

i don't bonds all three (although it probably reduced rwt) but mostly it was a method to offer players membership for rsgp, which used to be a really big market like two years ago and it involved lots of rwt and scamming etc.

Honestly, I believe that Jagex just introduced Bonds to take some money away from RWTers and put it in their own pocket. They knew it would cause a spike in RWT and botting, otherwise they're idiots that don't understand basic economics.

I agree. If users are going to buy gold, its better that they buy it from Jagex instead of gold farmers.

For me it does the EXACT opposite, it encourages me more to bot.. All they've done is given me the opportunity to bot on members accounts without having to risk/sacrifice real $.
Honestly they just say this shit to the public to keep them happy. The public has no idea what's going on so they believe it.

It's "better" for Jagex's pocket, but if you buy gold from Jagex you're getting ripped off badly.

I wholeheartedly disagree. All that's happened so far is the players who feel unsafe with purchasing from shady merchants, have instead opted to safely purchase their in-game wealth directly from Jagex.

I did not start botting 07 because was no bonds but when i heard of the bonds i started to bot because it was so easy and cheap.

Buying a bond with IRL cash is like buying weed at a recreational store in Colorado; sure it may be safe but your still paying 2x black market prices

Just think, if people could buy and sell weed Runescape GP freely without the government Jagex interfering, 1m would cost like $.10!

Good point. It's somewhat of a necessary evil to some extent for both Jagex and the botters

If Jagex supplied an infinite amount of gold yes; however, I'm not convinced that it'd go that low even if it were legal, given Jagex wasn't the one selling it for such a price.

no, if jagex supplied the gold then of course the eco would be inflated, look at like every rsps. D claws 1.5b lol.

Yeah, I'm just saying that that's the only scenario I can think of where gold would fall below 10c. Actually it's very much possible that allowing players to sell gold to eachother may in fact cause prices to rise as it'd be all the rage and socially acceptable to p2w

Have to totally agree, way easier to bot because of bonds

Think of how many people will start selling off their mains with party hats with no fear of being banned.

Legit players could actually compete against bots

Lozefase

2015-02-21 13:57:23

I disagree, just because it might be legal(in game) doesn't mean more people would do it. It's not like people who want so sell their mains are not doing so because they fear ban

Technically it reduces rwt from the standpoint of less people are trading gold to real money and then buying membership, but this also encourages people to farm gold with bots and buy membership and then farm even harder with members only ways to farm

It makes it much easier for gold farms to buy membership, as they can just buy it from the GE now, Jagex may have previously linked accounts via paypal or bank account

Theres a bigger picture to all of this.

Yes, being able to buy membership with in game wealth is incredibly beneficial to ANY player, and is obviously a reason that a lot of people came back to the game. However, to do this, in game gold must be used.

Bonds are a way for jagex to generate more gold in the game. Its like a country deciding to print more money.

Ultimately, the economy collapses and things become ridiculously expensive (like they have). But until that point, jagex id assume is actually making more money generating the in game wealth that people use to buy membership, then they would otherwise have made from people just straight up buying it. Plus the advantage of happier players.

If anything it increased RWT and Botting..
