How Long have You Played Runescape?
10 Year(s)

Are you affilated in anyway with Jagex LTD?
No

Were you Referred to SRL?
Clarity

What is your general programming knowledge?
I used to program as a career. I've worked with multiple botting communities. PowerBot - in its early stages, long before 2010 - and RSBuddy.

I suppose the most notable employment would be Symantec. However, after leaving that position, I decided I didn't want my paycheck to rely on my computer activities and decided to keep it as a hobby. Since then, I've designed software with impressive download counts and great critiques. Clarity would be more then happy to vouch that this claim is legitimate. Then again, I suppose the admins already know who I am based off of my registered e-mail address and previous login name.

All that said, my programming knowledge is vast. Web design is probably my biggest hobby, but have scripted in everything from AHK_L, JavaScript, PHP, Python, and VB - back in my days of writing hacks for FPSs. I've also programmed in C, C++, C#, Java, etc. Though, my specialties, or my preferences, are C++ and Java.

Are you a member of any other communities?
Nothing botting related. Sythe is interesting to read through from time to time - but ever since my time in PowerBot, I primarily stick to fansites.

I occasionally revisit PowerBot, Sythe, and a few other botting communities and marketplaces. These usually last no longer then a quick read-through. Other then that, I'm rather active in a number of popular fansites.

Tell us about yourself…
From: Obscurity
I'd give you my first name, but it's rather unique and widely recognized in RuneScape communities. So, I suppose you're just going to have to call me Obscurity!

Clarity is one of my best friends. We been through many ups and downs and dragged each other through all of it. He's the reason I began to gain interest in Simba and SMART. In-fact, most of my libraries are inspired by him.

Apart from PC activities, I work 72 hours a week doing body work on new vehicles straight off Chrysler and Ford's assembly line. Ripping them apart has a kind of sick satisfaction to it. Though, a new opportunity arose this week which may lead me into doing CNC.

My list of hobbies is small. Not only does working 72 or more hours a week leave me with little time for anything, I injured myself in a skiing accident several years ago which left me disabled, which cost me the life I had and loved. So, now that I've lost my BMX sponsorships and can no longer play, well, any sports… This bloody PC takes up most of my time.

Please show us one (or multiple) of your scripts.
{
The only current script, if you can call it that, that I've released publicly is my obscurityLibraryUpload. It can be found here:
https://villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=110653

Now when you read this, your reaction is going to be to click on the big-red deny button. Hear me out. I don't like to write and design full scripts for the public. For example, full fighters, full fletchers, etc. I believe there's power in knowledge, so I like to help people. This is the reason for my obscurityLibraryUpload.

Teach people. Help them. Give them the building-blocks they need to be great and push each other even further.

If I was an SRL member, I'd be able to help them with their scripts, provide the libraries they need, and learn from them just as they'd hopefully do from me.

I've tried to upload via the attachment button below, but I get a permission error. If you'd like anything more from me, either contact me on here or Skype: obscuritySRL@outlook.com.

Cheers!
}

Edit:
Since a script was still requested, despite my library, here's a Pest Control bot.

None of my bots require a specific setup. It'll find what it needs where ever it is. Though, you won't need your inventory or any other windows then these:

Set up with mage or range or melee, set to momentum or revolution. Add your IDs to the top of the script.

Stand near the gangplank of the boat you want to play at and click start.

I'd vote no.

It doesn't show any advanced use of the SRL library.

Not my call to make, though.

Even though you do not have any full scripts out there (now and/or in the future), I would give you Yes-vote with a bit more activity around the community.
I don't mind lack of script releases at all in, IF you are an active member around the community and trying to help out other people by contributing in various ways (methods, libraries, tutorials, advices, etc… Yes, very good example is that cool library of yours)

Your inactivity (35 posts in 2 and ½ years is just not enough) is the main reason why this time I'll just have to hit a No..
However, I do hope you start posting and contributing a bit more, so that you'll get the membership in the very near future - I believe that you do have the skills and experience to get in.

Good luck!

I've added my Pest Control bot to the first post. As for my activity, Clarity and the admins will agree that I had been waiting for a very very long time for my name to be changed from my first name - an issue which was raised in my application. I wanted the name Obscurity because of my years working with Clarity and the name was taken and refused to release anything under any other name. I also couldn't post due to being falsely flagged as a leecher.

NKN

Clarity

2015-01-16 20:50:58

Hmm…what does Clarity + Obscurity equal? Neutrality?

Vouching for all the above claims as true, and if people want more credibility I'd be happy to demonstrate proof to @Justin or someone, who already knows what site we're talking about. Obscurity took over my role (and higher) in this massive community when I demoted myself to focus more on SRL. His RS knowledge is as vast and diverse as his programming background.

I introduced Obscurity to OGL scripting a few months ago, and since then he's taken incredible initiative (surpassing my own work by far), revolutionizing our scripting capabilities with some awesome functions. I've absolutely loved scripting dungeoneering with his library. He redid my Rorarii script, made a Tormented Demons script, and a Bandos God Wars script among others. Color is still useful and powerful, but for these particular activities, OGL was the more practical approach.

As for his activity, I'd say his "real" registration date was this fall. I've worked with him on scripting matters near-everyday in Skype. I do agree that he could be more active on the forums!

Regarding lack of SRL-6, Brandon/Demise's OGL includes are basically SRL-6 modified for OGL, and ObscurityLibrary is a complete redo of most of those functions. All in all, the lack of SRL-6 in this case effectively boils down to a lack of dealing with color (DTMs, ATPA searches). However, I think you can see an advanced understanding of Lape and all the different functions/types we use.

I'd encourage anyone who is skeptical of non-SRL-6 usage to check out ObscurityLibrary and see the work for yourselves. But we'll let the votes decide if a true SRL-6 demonstration is still desired.

Voted yes. Good luck friend! :)

I'm only voting no for not much activity, scripts look fine to me. I could care less if the SRL include is used even though it's in the requirements. As long as the script shown exceeds expectations of a script written with the SRL include it is fine by me

Well well well, looks like you do have a decent chance of getting accepted as an SRL Member, if the vote Yes-to-No rate stays around where it is right now. :p
That being said; even though I voted no, I have absolutely nothing against you getting accepted with the current activity, as I did take closer look at your application and I must mention that you have a fantastic attitude!

No doubt that 1) you have some programming knowledge, 2) you have been contributing to the community with this OGL project of yours, and 3) you have a good attitude, so that ticks all the boxes ;)

The only thing that nobody has said but everybody is thinking is that all of this OGL stuff won't actually get used due to it's limitations (FPS issues etc.). The idea has been around on SRL for ~4 years but nothing has eventuated.

I'd made this account a while back when someone mentioned software that I'd written. I then stopped using Villa. Then, once Clarity reintroduced me to it, I wanted a name change from being my first name. The one I wanted, Clarity, was taken. I couldn't fill out the name change form because I'd been falsely flagged as a leecher and had to wait several weeks to get that removed by an admin, which they were happy to do. In all, the name change and such took months.

I'll get to the other comments later - having company for dinner and have to go shopping for some things. :).

If I were to vote no due to inactivity, this wouldn't change my mind. I don't see the big deal in people knowing who you are, but that's just me. Either way, instead of waiting around for over a year, if you really wanted to actively participate. You could have done so on another account.

Clarity and Justin both understand that if my account here were to be found out, or even my name, that it'd not only ruin my reputation elsewhere, but would severely (negatively) impact a number of other very large communities and even businesses.

In the past when I registered, I had no interest in Villa. I hadn't used or seen Simba. I registered just because someone was asking if one of my programs was legit. I hadn't seen Villa's full potential. I had my own private botting program that I and friends used. But, when running a popular CC, we needed and hired advertisers. This is where I met Justin. It was then that a friend sent me Simba and a very badly coded AutoTalker. Not looking into it much, and having the bad first experience if the AutoTalker, I didn't look further into it. I didn't know what Villa was all about. I didn't know their goals. Didn't know anything. For all I knew, it was another Sythe-like community.

Then, after working with Clarity for years, he finally opened up and told me he was a scripter at Villa. That may have been the time I told him I was with PowerBot and also botted (again, privately). He told me Villa wasn't a place to go to simply gain levels, power train, sell gold, and just write and sell scripts. If I wanted that, there's plenty of other places I could go, right?

That was when I tried to use my account again and had discovered it'd been flagged as a leech account (which can't post). Hell, Clarity will tell you - first thing I tried doing was submitting several bug reports for the plugins and includes, which I found leech account can't access.

Clarity is one of my best friends. Another account name wasn't an option, nor was my real name. I'd planned Clarity/Obscurity from the moment I found out.

He told me Villa was a place where learning was the focus; People hell-bent on pushing the limits - not so much for GP or XP, but to learn an advance for the sheer sake of gaining knowledge. That is what caught my attention. That is what I want. I want to give people the tools (libraries) they need and watch and help them advance. It's what I do here, and it's what I do elsewhere. One of my biggest jobs at my largest website position is providing advanced plugins for the website team to use. Sure, I'll write my own bots and I do.

We're going to change the way OpenGL is viewed. It has bugs. It has shitty FPS for some people. That can be fixed - but not by turning a blind eye to it and ignoring it. It's potential is enormous! Look at all the people running and contributing to colour. Look at the few contributing to OpenGL. I'd say - looking at Clarity's and my OpenGL scripts, and my OpenGL library - that we're doing pretty damned good for only finally having my account for a short time.

Hopefully this clears things up.

Let's all spend 500 bucks on a new graphics card? How can it be fixed?

The knowledge of your identity here would 'severely (negatively) impact a number of other very large communities and even businesses'? That's really mind-boggling…
Are you a prominent jmod? I cant imagine anyone else being found out for writing scripts for RS could cause such impact…even suomi/zezima wouldnt?

Anyway back to topic, dont be discouraged if you cant get in this time, i think most people voted no because of ur activity, so just be more active and u will definitely get in on your next application :) The poll is still in your favor though!

Yes, Didn't obs even say he had to buy a new gpu to get better performance?

Anyway, IDC it's just silly everyone thinking OGL is kept 'secret' for some reason.. It's just hasn't 'taken off' because not everyone can use it succesfully (Including me).

I'm pretty sure I even pushed and begged Brandon to do it, begged for a new official smart that could do it and such.

IDK why people think it is secret, it's been publicly avaliable for years. I think people think it's kinda secret recently because demise dropped all that OGL stuff in the mems section? If DirectX hooking was possible then that might work on a large scale; I recall someone saying that there weren't any fps issues. This isn't a bash at any of your work Obscurity, I'm just skeptical about all this effort you are putting in to something that probably won't work for most people. You mention "people running to contribute to color", and that's because it works, and has done for the last 9 years.

Of course.

I'm skeptical about how revealing your "true identity" would ruin your reputation and have a tangible negative affect on real communities and businesses, I really am, and seriously wonder why the hell anyone would care that you write scripts to cheat at an MMORPG… but you've managed to convince me to vote yes based on your desire to contribute tenfold what you already have.

Good luck.

Cheers, mate. You'll see my first public script release tonight. An OGL obsLividFarm. :-). I'm excited. Not the most advanced bot, but a friend asked me for it last night and thought I'd share!

I've been following the development of this application, and this is an extremely unique application. We have arguments about post count, OGL working on computers, and nobody is really mentioning the important things required for SRL Members.

1) Do you have technical skill? - Overwhelming yes
2) Are you actively improving the community? - Yes
3) Do you have high quality SRL scripts for review? - No

Why does anyone care about anything else? Post count per month is low? Who cares? I post a few times a month and nobody has taken away my rank.

Forget who the applicant is. Look at the criteria we have. Very high technical ability, actively pushing out more code than I have in months, but no SRL (colour) scripts. I can think of a few people who have gotten SRL Member without writing a script, so it's not really important to me.

For me, the potential pros outweigh whatever cons here. It's not like we're watering down the talent pool any by voting Obscurity in.

voted yes, the guy seems to know much more than a lot of people here and looks more than willing to contribute… i dont see why so many no's. yeah, maybe he rushed to apply for srl membership, but who cares? if he doesent get accepted now, he'll get accepted in a month. so, as stated above, the pro's of accepting him are far better than the cons..

Apologies in advance, but some of the logic about this application confuses me. We have the potential to peak interest in OGL - which has massive updates coming, both the plugin and libraries - to make it easier and available to more people. People want to learn OGL. Combined with colour (which I plan to), the only thing better would be reflection… But, let's vote no to someone with the ability, determination, and motivation to contribute for reasons such as, "I don't like your formatting," or, "You didn't answer my (basic) question."

The question I simply forgot about - but I'm not after a vote based on a question that anyone and their dog could easily Google. If that's the criteria you want to base accepting someone for SRL membership on, I'll take your "No".

Again, apologies. It's just a tad confusing. Cheers to those who voted yes - it's appreciated. :-).

It's because many SRL Members have the idea that the rank is an elite organization of people who can script well (with SRL includes) and are releasing many scripts to the public (before they applied). The reality is that a lot of us got in and immediately became lazy, myself included. Not very many (in proportion to active Members) have released a script since they received the rank. Many of those who remained actively developing scripts and helping SRL moved into actual high ranks like SSRL, Developer, and more.

Every now and then though we get someone like you who hasn't really released anything but has crazy technical abilities. I'm not sure why you're being hounded, but probably because you've only posted your own OGL include (not a private colour script). Some people get really upset about not using colour, for whatever reason. They always have (for the 8 years I've been here) and people always will.

It's a shame to see people alienate you when you're clearly capable of producing some exciting work. That's not the way to improve the community. You want in, you could script circles around me, it's that simple.

Either way, it appears you've got 5 hours before the poll closes. You're at the point where it's up to Admins to decide whether you're in or not (I think), so best of luck to you. I've voted yes a week or so ago, I just wanted to voice my 0.02 and let you know not to worry about the people who are voting no because OGL is confusing or difficult.

Edit:

I encourage anyone who hasn't voted (or would like to change their vote) to review this application. Not to offend the applicant or anything, just simply because the situation is very similar. Very new member, no public releases, not very "active" in the sense of posting all the time. The only difference is one made a private colour script (which sounds amazing but I've never used) and one made a public OGL include (which also looks amazing). So why was one unanimous decision and one has people flaming for no reason other than "Didn't answer my question" or "OGL sucks"?

Very strange…
